1 I f it had not been Yahweh who was on our side, let Israel now say,

«Canto dei pellegrinaggi. Di Davide.» Se l'Eterno non fosse stato dalla nostra parte, dica pure Israele:

2 i f it had not been Yahweh who was on our side, when men rose up against us;

«Se l'Eterno non fosse stato dalla nostra parte, quando gli uomini si levarono contro di noi,

3 t hen they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

essi ci avrebbero inghiottiti vivi, tanto divampò la loro ira contro di noi;

4 t hen the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul;

allora le acque ci avrebbero sommerso e il torrente ci sarebbe passato sopra,

5 t hen the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

allora le acque rigonfie ci sarebbero passate sopra».

6 B lessed be Yahweh, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

Benedetto sia l'Eterno, che non ci ha dati in preda ai loro denti.

7 O ur soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler’s snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped.

L'anima nostra è scampata come un uccello dal laccio dell'uccellatore; il laccio si è spezzato e noi siamo scampati.

8 O ur help is in Yahweh’s name, who made heaven and earth.

Il nostro aiuto è nel nome dell'Eterno che ha fatto i cieli e la terra.
