1 W hen Solomon had finished the building of Yahweh’s house, the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

Dopo che Salomone ebbe terminato di costruire la casa dell'Eterno, il palazzo reale e tutto ciò che Salomone desiderava e intendeva fare,

2 Y ahweh appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

l'Eterno apparve una seconda volta a Salomone come gli era apparso a Gabaon,

3 Y ahweh said to him, “I have heard your prayer and your supplication, that you have made before me. I have made this house holy, which you have built, to put my name there forever; and my eyes and my heart shall be there perpetually.

e l'Eterno gli disse: «Io ho esaudito la tua preghiera e la supplica che hai fatto davanti a me; ho santificato questo tempio che tu hai edificato per mettervi il mio nome per sempre; là saranno per sempre i miei occhi e il mio cuore.

4 A s for you, if you will walk before me, as David your father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances;

Quanto a te, se camminerai davanti a me come ha camminato Davide tuo padre, con integrità di cuore e con rettitudine, facendo tutto ciò che ti ho comandato, e se osserverai i miei statuti e i miei decreti,

5 t hen I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.’

Io renderò stabile il trono del tuo regno su Israele per sempre come ho promesso a Davide tuo padre, dicendo: "Non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che sieda sul trono d'Israele".

6 B ut if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them;

Ma se voi o i vostri figli vi ritrarrete da me e non osserverete i miei comandamenti e i miei statuti che ho posto davanti a voi e andrete a servire altri dèi e a prostrarvi davanti a loro,

7 t hen I will cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and I will cast this house, which I have made holy for my name, out of my sight; and Israel will be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

io sterminerò Israele dalla faccia del paese che gli ho dato e rigetterò dalla mia presenza il tempio che ho consacrato al mio nome; cosí Israele diventerà la favola e lo zimbello di tutti i popoli.

8 T hough this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land, and to this house?’

E questo tempio, sebbene cosí imponente, sarà desolato; chiunque poi gli passera vicino rimarrà stupito e fischierà, e dirà: "Perché l'Eterno ha trattato così questo paese e questo tempio?".

9 a nd they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold of other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil on them.’”

Allora gli risponderanno: "Perché hanno abbandonato l'Eterno, il loro DIO, che ha fatto uscire i loro padri dal paese d'Egitto e hanno aderito ad altri dei, si sono prostrati davanti a loro e li hanno serviti; per questo l'Eterno ha fatto venire su di loro tutta questa calamita».

10 A t the end of twenty years, in which Solomon had built the two houses, Yahweh’s house and the king’s house

Venti anni dopo che Salomone aveva costruito i due edifici, la casa dell'Eterno e il palazzo reale,

11 ( now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and cypress trees, and with gold, according to all his desire), King Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

(Hiram, re di Tiro, aveva fornito a Salomone tutto il legno di cedro e di cipresso e l'oro che desiderava) il re Salomone diede a Hiram venti città nel paese di Galilea.

12 H iram came out of Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they didn’t please him.

Hiram venne da Tiro per vedere le città che Salomone gli aveva dato, ma non gli piacquero;

13 H e said, “What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?” He called them the land of Cabul to this day.

e disse: «Che città sono queste che mi hai dato, fratello mio?». E le chiamò "paese di Kabul", nome in uso fino al giorno d'oggi.

14 H iram sent to the king one hundred twenty talents of gold.

Poi Hiram mandò al re centoventi talenti d'oro.

15 T his is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build Yahweh’s house, his own house, Millo, Jerusalem’s wall, Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer.

Questo è il resoconto del lavoro forzato che il re Salomone reclutò per costruire la casa dell'Eterno, la sua propria casa, Millo, le mura di Gerusalemme Hatsor, Meghiddo e Ghezer.

16 P haraoh king of Egypt had gone up, taken Gezer, burnt it with fire, killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and given it for a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

(Il Faraone, re d'Egitto, era salito e aveva espugnato Ghezer, l'aveva data alle fiamme ed aveva ucciso i Cananei che abitavano in città; poi l'aveva data in dote a sua figlia, moglie di Salomone).

17 S olomon built in the land Gezer, Beth Horon the lower,

Quindi Salomone ricostruí Ghezer Beth-Horon inferiore,

18 B aalath, Tamar in the wilderness,

Baalath e Tadmor nella parte deserta del paese,

19 a ll the storage cities that Solomon had, the cities for his chariots, the cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build for his pleasure in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

tutte le città di rifornimento appartenenti a Salomone, le città per i suoi carri, le città per la sua cavalleria, tutto ciò che piacque a Salomone costruire in Gerusalemme, nel Libano e in tutto il paese del suo dominio.

20 A s for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel;

Tutta la gente rimasta degli Amorei, degli Hittei, dei Perezei, degli Hivvei e dei Gebusei, che non erano dei figli d'Israele,

21 t heir children who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them Solomon raised a levy of bondservants to this day.

cioè i loro discendenti che erano rimasti dopo di loro nel paese e che gli Israeliti non erano riusciti a votare allo sterminio, Salomone li reclutò per il lavoro forzato fino al giorno d'oggi.

22 B ut of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, his servants, his princes, his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

Ma dei figli d'Israele, Salomone non impiegò alcuno per i lavori forzati; essi erano invece i suoi uomini di guerra, i suoi servi, i suoi ministri, i suoi principi, i suoi capitani, i comandanti dei suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri.

23 T hese were the five hundred fifty chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

I capi dei funzionari che dirigevano i lavori di Salomone erano cinquecentocinquanta; essi sorvegliavano la gente che eseguiva i lavori.

24 B ut Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of David’s city to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built Millo.

Dopo che la figlia del Faraone si trasferí dalla città di Davide alla casa che Salomone le aveva fatto costruire, questi si mise a costruire Millo.

25 S olomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he built to Yahweh three times a year, burning incense with them, on the altar that was before Yahweh. So he finished the house.

Tre volte all'anno Salomone offriva olocausti e sacrifici di ringraziamento sull'altare che egli aveva costruito all'Eterno e bruciava incenso sull'altare che era davanti all'Eterno. Cosí terminò il tempio.

26 K ing Solomon made a fleet of ships in Ezion Geber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom.

Il re Salomone costruí anche una flotta ad Etsion-Gheber, presso Elath sulla riva del Mar Rosso, nel paese di Edom.

27 H iram sent in the fleet his servants, sailors who had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

Hiram mandò sulle navi della flotta i suoi servi, marinai che conoscevano il mare, a lavorare con i servi di Salomone.

28 T hey came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

Essi andarono ad Ofir, dove presero quattrocentoventi talenti d'oro e li portarono a Salomone.
