1 H ow long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

«Al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide.» Fino a quando, o Eterno, mi dimenticherai? Sarà forse per sempre? Fino a quando mi nasconderai il tuo volto?

2 H ow long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me?

Fino a quando farò deliberazioni nella mia anima e avrò afflizione nel mio cuore tutto il giorno? Fino a quando s'innalzerà il mio nemico sopra di me?

3 B ehold, and answer me, Yahweh, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;

Guarda attentamente e rispondimi, o Eterno, DIO mio, illumina i miei occhi, affinché non m'addormenti nel sonno della morte,

4 L est my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him”; Lest my adversaries rejoice when I fall.

perché il mio nemico non dica: «L'ho vinto», e perché i miei nemici non si rallegrino, quando vacillo.

5 B ut I trust in your loving kindness. My heart rejoices in your salvation.

Ma io confido nella tua benignità, e il mio cuore esulterà nella tua liberazione;

6 I will sing to Yahweh, because he has been good to me.

io canterò all'Eterno, perché egli mi ha trattato con grande magnanimità.
