1 I n the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel for nine years.

Nell'anno dodicesimo di Achaz, re di Giuda. Hosea figlio di Elah, iniziò a regnare sopra Israele in Samaria, e regnò nove anni.

2 H e did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him.

Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, ma non come i re d'Israele che erano stati prima di lui.

3 S halmaneser king of Assyria came up against him, and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute.

Shalmaneser, re di Assiria, salí contro di lui; Hosea divenne quindi suo servo e gli pagò un tributo.

4 T he king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria seized him, and bound him in prison.

Ma il re di Assiria scoprí una congiura in Hosea, perché egli aveva inviato dei messaggeri a So, re d'Egitto, e non portava piú il tributo al re di Assiria come era solito fare ogni anno. Perciò il re di Assiria lo fece imprigionare e lo rinchiuse in carcere.

5 T hen the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

Poi il re di Assiria invase tutto il paese, salí contro Samaria e l'assediò per tre anni.

6 I n the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

Nell'anno nono di Hosea, il re di Assiria espugnò Samaria, deportò gl'lsraeliti in Assiria e li stabilí in Halah e sull'Habor, fiume di Gozan, e nelle città dei Medi.

7 I t was so because the children of Israel had sinned against Yahweh their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

Questo avvenne perché i figli d'Israele avevano peccato contro l'Eterno, il loro DIO, che li aveva fatti uscire dal paese d'Egitto liberandoli dal potere del Faraone re d'Egitto e avevano riverito altri dèi;

8 a nd walked in the statutes of the nations whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.

essi avevano seguito le usanze delle nazioni che l'Eterno aveva scacciato davanti ai figli d'Israele e quelle introdotte dai re d'Israele.

9 T he children of Israel secretly did things that were not right against Yahweh their God; and they built high places for themselves in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;

Inoltre i figli d'Israele avevano fatto in segreto contro l'Eterno, il loro DIO, cose non giuste e si erano costruiti alti luoghi in tutte le loro città, dalle torri di guardia alle città fortificate.

10 a nd they set up for themselves pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill, and under every green tree;

Avevano eretto per sé colonne sacre e Ascerim su ogni alto colle e sotto ogni albero verdeggiante;

11 a nd there they burnt incense in all the high places, as the nations whom Yahweh carried away before them did; and they did wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger;

e là, su tutti gli alti luoghi, avevano bruciato incenso, come avevano fatto le nazioni che l'Eterno aveva scacciato davanti a loro, e avevano commesso azioni malvagie, provocando ad ira l'Eterno;

12 a nd they served idols, of which Yahweh had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.”

avevano inoltre servito gli idoli intorno ai quali l'Eterno aveva loro detto: «Non fate una simile cosa!».

13 Y et Yahweh testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

Eppure l'Eterno aveva avvertito Israele e Giuda per mezzo di tutti i profeti e di tutti i veggenti, dicendo: «Tornate indietro dalle vostre vie malvagie e osservate i miei comandamenti e i miei statuti, secondo tutta la legge che io prescrissi ai vostri padri e che ho mandato a voi per mezzo dei miei servi i profeti».

14 N otwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn’t believe in Yahweh their God.

Ma essi non prestarono ascolto e indurirono il loro collo, come l'avevano indurito i loro padri che non ebbero fede nell'Eterno, il loro DIO.

15 T hey rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do like them.

E rigettarono i suoi statuti e il patto che egli aveva stabilito con i loro padri e gli avvertimenti che egli aveva loro dato. Perciò seguirono cose vane, diventando fatui essi stessi, e andarono dietro le nazioni che li circondavano, che l'Eterno aveva loro proibito di imitare.

16 T hey abandoned all the commandments of Yahweh their God, and made molten images for themselves, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.

Cosí essi abbandonarono tutti i comandamenti dell'Eterno, il loro DIO; si fecero due vitelli di metallo fuso e fecero un'Ascerah e adorarono tutto l'esercito del cielo e servirono Baal,

17 T hey caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, to provoke him to anger.

fecero passare per il fuoco i loro figli e le loro figlie, praticarono la divinazione, interpretarono presagi e si diedero a fare ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, provocandolo ad ira.

18 T herefore Yahweh was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight. There was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

Per questo l'Eterno si adirò grandemente contro Israele e lo allontanò dalla sua presenza; non rimase se non la sola tribú di Giuda

19 A lso Judah didn’t keep the commandments of Yahweh their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

Neppure Giuda osservò i comandamenti dell'Eterno, il suo DIO, ma seguí le usanze introdotte da Israele.

20 Y ahweh rejected all the offspring of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hands of raiders, until he had cast them out of his sight.

Perciò l'Eterno rigettò tutta la stirpe d'Israele, li umiliò e li abbandonò in mano dei predoni, finché li scacciò dalla sua presenza.

21 F or he tore Israel from David’s house; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king; and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin.

Quando egli strappò Israele dalla casa di Davide, essi proclamarono re Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat: poi Geroboamo distolse Israele dal seguire l'Eterno e gli fece commettere un gran peccato.

22 T he children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they didn’t depart from them

Cosí i figli d'Israele seguirono tutti i peccati che Geroboamo aveva commesso e non se ne allontanarono.

23 u ntil Yahweh removed Israel out of his sight, as he said by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

fino a che l'Eterno mandò via Israele dalla sua presenza, come aveva detto per mezzo di tutti i profeti suoi servi; e Israele fu cosí deportato dal suo paese in Assiria, dove si trova fino al giorno d'oggi.

24 T he king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, from Cuthah, from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in its cities.

Poi il re di Assiria fece venire gente da Babilonia, da Kuthah, da Avva, da Hamath e da Sefarvaim e la stabilí nelle città della Samaria al posto dei figli d'Israele; cosí essi presero possesso della Samaria e abitarono nelle sue città.

25 S o it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn’t fear Yahweh. Therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them.

Ma, all'inizio del loro insediamento colà, essi non temevano l'Eterno; perciò l'Eterno mandò in mezzo a loro dei leoni che uccisero alcuni di loro.

26 T herefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The nations which you have carried away and placed in the cities of Samaria don’t know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don’t know the law of the god of the land.”

Allora dissero al re di Assiria: «Le genti che tu hai trasferito e stabilito nelle città della Samaria non conoscono la legge del DIO del paese; perciò egli ha mandato in mezzo a loro dei leoni che li uccidono, perché essi non conoscono la legge del DIO del paese».

27 T hen the king of Assyria commanded, saying, “Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”

Allora il re di Assiria diede quest'ordine, dicendo: «Fatevi ritornare uno dei sacerdoti che avete deportato di là; egli vada, vi si stabilisca ed insegni loro la legge del DIO del paese».

28 S o one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

Così uno dei sacerdoti, che erano stati deportati dalla Samaria, venne a stabilirsi a Bethel e insegnò loro come dovevano temere l'Eterno.

29 H owever every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.

Ciò nonostante, tutte quelle nazioni continuarono a fare i propri dèi e li collocarono nei templi degli alti luoghi che i Samaritani avevano costruito, ogni nazione nella città in cui abitava.

30 T he men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

Quei di Babilonia fecero Sukkoth-Benoth; quelli di Kuth fecero Nergal quelli di Hamath fecero Ascima;

31 a nd the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

quelli di Avva fecero Nibhaz e Tartak e quelli di Sefarvaim bruciavano i loro figli col fuoco in onore di Adrammelek e di Anammelek, dèi di Sefarvaim.

32 S o they feared Yahweh, and also made from among themselves priests of the high places for themselves, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

Essi temevano l'Eterno, ma si scelsero dei sacerdoti degli alti luoghi provenienti da ogni classe e che offrivano per loro sacrifici nei templi degli alti luoghi.

33 T hey feared Yahweh, and also served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

Cosí essi temevano l'Eterno e servivano i loro dèi, secondo le usanze delle quali erano stati deportati.

34 T o this day they do what they did before. They don’t fear Yahweh, and they do not follow the statutes, or the ordinances, or the law, or the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

A tutt'oggi essi continuano a seguire le antiche usanze: non temono l'Eterno e non agiscono secondo i suoi statuti e i suoi decreti e neppure secondo la legge e i comandamenti che l'Eterno prescrisse ai figli di Giacobbe, da lui chiamato Israele.

35 w ith whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;

Con essi infatti l'Eterno aveva stabilito e aveva loro ordinato: «Non temete altri dèi, non prostratevi davanti a loro, non serviteli e non offrite loro sacrifici,

36 b ut you shall fear Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him.

ma temete l'Eterno, che vi ha fatto salire dal paese d'Egitto con grande potenza e con braccio disteso; davanti a lui prostratevi e a lui offrite sacrifici.

37 T he statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forever more. You shall not fear other gods.

Abbiate cura di mettere sempre in pratica gli statuti, i decreti, la legge e i comandamenti che egli scrisse per voi; ma non temete altri dèi.

38 Y ou shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you. You shall not fear other gods.

Non dimenticate il patto che io ho stabilito con voi e non temete altri dèi;

39 B ut you shall fear Yahweh your God, and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.”

ma temete l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, ed egli vi libererà dalle mani di tutti i vostri nemici».

40 H owever they did not listen, but they did what they did before.

Essi però non ubbidirono e continuarono invece a seguire le loro antiche usanze.

41 S o these nations feared Yahweh, and also served their engraved images. Their children likewise, and their children’s children, as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

Cosí quelle nazioni temevano l'Eterno e servivano i loro idoli. Anche i loro figli e i figli dei loro figli hanno continuato a fare fino al giorno d'oggi come avevano fatto i loro padri.
