1 С ын мой, если ты поручился за другого и дал заклад за чужого,

My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2 т о ты был пойман на слове, попался в ловушку собственных слов.

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3 И тогда, сын мой, сделай вот что, чтобы спастись, раз ты попал в руки другого: пойди, унижайся и мольбами его осади!

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

4 Н е давай глазам своим сна и не смыкай век своих.

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

5 С пасайся, как газель из руки охотника, как птица из силков птицелова.

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 П ойди к муравью, лежебока, посмотри на труды его и будь мудрым!

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Н ет у него ни начальника, ни надсмотрщика, ни правителя;

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 н о он запасается летом пищей, собирает себе еду во время жатвы.

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

9 С колько валяться тебе, лежебока? Когда же ты встанешь от сна?

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Н емного поспишь, немного подремлешь, – немного, руки сложив, полежишь,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 и придет к тебе нищета, как бродяга, и настигнет нужда, как разбойник.

So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

12 Н егодяй и злодей ходит с лживой речью,

A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13 п одмигивает глазами, подает знаки ногами и тычет пальцами.

He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14 Л ожь в его сердце; он замышляет зло и постоянно сеет раздор.

Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

15 К такому нежданно придет беда; он будет внезапно погублен – без исцеления.

Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

16 Ш есть вещей ненавидит Господь, даже семь, что Ему отвратительны:

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 н адменные глаза, лживый язык, руки, что льют безвинную кровь,

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 с ердце, что вынашивает нечестивые замыслы, ноги, что скоры бежать к злу,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 л жесвидетель, что дышит ложью, и тот, кто меж братьями сеет раздор. Предостережение против нарушения супружеской верности

A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

20 С ын мой, храни повеления своего отца и не отвергай поучения своей матери.

My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Н авсегда навяжи их на сердце, обвяжи их вокруг шеи.

Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 К огда ты пойдешь, они тебя поведут; когда ты уснешь, они тебя будут охранять; когда ты встанешь, они будут с тобой разговаривать.

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 В едь повеления эти – светильник, наставление – свет, а назидательное обличение – путь к жизни,

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

24 х ранящие тебя от дурной женщины, от льстивого языка чужой жены.

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 Н е желай в своем сердце ее красоты, не давай ей увлечь тебя ресницами,

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26 в едь из-за блудницы нищают до куска хлеба, а чужая жена охотится за самой жизнью.

For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

27 Р азве можно за пазуху взять огонь и не прожечь одежду?

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Р азве можно ходить по горячим углям и не обжечь ног?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 Т ак и тот, кто спит с женой другого; никто из коснувшихся ее не останется безнаказанным.

So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

30 Н е презирают вора, когда крадет он из-за голода лишь для того, чтоб насытиться.

Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

31 Н о будучи пойман, заплатит он семикратно, отдав все добро своего дома.

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32 Н о нарушающий верность в супружестве – безрассуден; так поступающий сам себя губит.

But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

33 П обои и срам он получит, и позор его не изгладится;

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

34 в едь ревность приводит мужа в ярость, и не сжалится он, когда будет мстить.

For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 Н икакого выкупа он не примет, не захочет подарка, какого бы ты ни давал.

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
