1 Т огда ответил Элифаз из Темана:

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

2 – Может ли человек принести пользу Богу? Даже самый разумный – может ли принести Ему пользу?

Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?

3 Ч то за отрада для Всемогущего, если бы ты был праведен? Что за выгода для Него, даже если пути твои были безгрешны?

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?

4 З а благочестие ли Он тебя осуждает и вступает с тобою в суд?

Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?

5 Р азве порочность твоя не безмерна, и проступки не бесконечны?

Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?

6 Т ы брал без причины с братьев залог; ты снимал одежду с полунагих.

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

7 Т ы усталому не давал воды и отказывал в пище голодному,

Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

8 х отя ты был властным человеком и владел землей, и знатный на ней селился.

But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.

9 Т ы и вдов отсылал ни с чем, и сирот оставлял с пустыми руками.

Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

10 П отому и сети вокруг тебя, потому и внезапный ужас страшит,

Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;

11 п отому и глаза тебе застилает тьма, и разлив многих вод тебя захлестнул.

Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.

12 Р азве Бог не превыше небес? Взгляни на звезды, как они высоки!

Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

13 Н о ты говоришь: «Что знает Бог? Разве может судить Он сквозь мглу?

And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?

14 С окрыт облаками, Он нас не видит, проходя по своду небес».

Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.

15 Н еужели ты держишься древнего пути, по которому шли беззаконники?

Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?

16 О ни были до срока истреблены, их основания унес поток.

Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:

17 О ни говорили Богу: «Оставь нас! Что может сделать нам Всемогущий?» –

Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?

18 а Он наполнял добром их дома. Итак, помыслы нечестивых мне отвратительны.

Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

19 У видев их гибель, ликуют праведные; непорочные смеются над ними, говоря:

The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.

20 « Поистине, истреблен наш враг, и огонь пожирает его добро». Элифаз понуждает Иова отказаться от зла

Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

21 П римирись же с Богом, и обретешь мир; так придет к тебе благополучие.

Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.

22 П рими наставление Его уст и в сердце слова Его сохрани.

Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.

23 Е сли ты вернешься к Всемогущему и удалишь неправду от своего шатра, то будешь восстановлен.

If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.

24 Е сли пылью сочтешь ты золото, камнями ущелий – золото из Офира,

Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

25 т о Всемогущий станет твоим золотом, твоим серебром отменным.

Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.

26 Т ы возликуешь о Всемогущем, и поднимешь к Богу свое лицо.

For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

27 К огда ты помолишься, Он услышит; и ты исполнишь свои обеты.

Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.

28 К ак ты задумаешь, так и сбудется, и на пути твоем воссияет свет.

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

29 Е сли кто унижен будет, а ты скажешь: «Возвысь!», то спасет Он павшего духом.

When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

30 О н спасет даже виновного, спасен он будет чистотой твоих рук.

He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
