1 Т огда ответил Цофар из Наамы:

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

2 – Остаться ли множеству слов без ответа? Должен ли краснобай быть оправданным?

Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

3 Р азве болтовня твоя заставит людей замолчать? Неужели не посрамят тебя, когда ты глумишься?

Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

4 Т ы говоришь: «Учение мое верно, и чист я в Твоих глазах».

For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

5 О , если бы Бог ответил, открыл бы против тебя уста

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

6 и сокровенную мудрость тебе открыл, ведь двулика подлинная премудрость. Знай же, что часть твоих грехов Бог предал забвению. Мудрость Божья непостижима

And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

7 М ожешь ли Божьи глубины постигнуть? До конца познаешь ли Всемогущего?

Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

8 О н выше небес – что ты сможешь сделать? Глубже мира мертвых – что ты сможешь узнать?

It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

9 И х мера длиннее земли, шире моря.

The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

10 Е сли пройдет Он, бросит в темницу и созовет суд – кто Ему помешает?

If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

11 В едь Ему известно кто лжив; Он видит зло – неужели оставит его без внимания?

For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

12 Н о глупец наберется ума лишь тогда, когда дикий осел переродится в человека. Бог вознаградит Иова, если он покается

For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

13 Н о если ты сердце Ему отдашь и руки к Нему прострешь,

If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

14 е сли грех, что в руке у тебя, отбросишь и прогонишь порок из своих шатров,

If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

15 т о поднимешь лицо свое без стыда, встанешь прямо и не будешь бояться.

For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

16 Т огда ты несчастье свое забудешь, будешь помнить о нем, как об утекшей воде.

Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

17 Ж изнь твоя станет яснее полдня, а тьму рассеет заря.

And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday: thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

18 Т ы будешь спокоен, ведь есть надежда; ты огражден, – будешь спать безопасно.

And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

19 Л яжешь, и никто тебя не устрашит, и многие будут заискивать перед тобой.

Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

20 А глаза нечестивых померкнут, и убежища им не будет. Их надежда – что предсмертный вздох.

But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
