1 Д оговор заключил я с моими глазами, чтобы мне не заглядываться на девушек.

I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

2 В едь что за удел мне от Бога свыше, и что за наследие от Всемогущего с небес?

For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

3 Н е грешникам ли беда суждена и гибель – творящим зло?

Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

4 Р азве Он не видит мои пути, не считает каждый мой шаг?

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

5 Х одил ли я во лжи, и спешили ли ноги мои к обману?

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6 П усть Бог меня взвесит на верных весах, и тогда Он узнает, что я непорочен!

Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

7 Е сли стопы мои от пути уклонялись, если сердце мое следовало за моими глазами, и руки мои осквернялись,

If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

8 т о пусть другие съедят то, что я посеял, и исторгнется с корнем мой урожай.

Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

9 Е сли сердце мое соблазнялось женщиной, если я выжидал ее у дверей ближнего,

If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

10 п усть жена моя мелет зерно другому, и чужие люди с ней спят.

Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

11 В едь это гнусное преступление, грех, подлежащий суду.

For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

12 В едь это огонь, палящий до Погибели; который сжег бы мое добро.

For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

13 Е сли лишал я слугу или служанку справедливости, когда они были в тяжбе со мной,

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

14 т о, что стал бы я делать, когда Бог восстанет на суд? Что я сказал бы, будучи призван к ответу?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

15 Р азве не Тот, Кто создал меня в утробе, создал и их? Не один ли Творец во чреве нас сотворил?

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

16 Е сли я бедным отказывал в просьбах, и печалил глаза вдовы,

If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17 е сли один я съедал свой хлеб, с сиротою им не делясь –

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

18 я с юности растил его, как отец, и от чрева матери заботился о вдове –

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

19 е сли я видел гибнувшего нагим и нищего без одежды,

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

20 и сердце его не благословляло меня, за то, что согрел я его шерстью моих овец,

If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21 е сли поднимал я руку на сироту, зная, что есть у меня влияние в суде,

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

22 п усть рука моя отпадет от плеча, пусть переломится в суставе.

Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

23 Я боялся бед от Бога и, страшась Его величия, я не смог бы такого сделать.

For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

24 Е сли бы я на золото понадеялся, и сказал бы сокровищу: «Ты опора моя»,

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

25 е сли бы ликовал, что богатство мое несметно, что так много собрала моя рука,

If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

26 е сли глядя на солнце в его сиянии или на луну в ее сверкающем шествии,

If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

27 я сердцем прельщался втайне, и слал им воздушный поцелуй,

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

28 т о и эти грехи подлежат суду, ведь так я предал бы Всевышнего Бога.

This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

29 Е сли рад я был гибели моего врага, ликовал, когда он попадал в беду –

If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

30 н о я не давал согрешить устам, не призывал проклятия на его жизнь, –

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

31 е сли в шатре моем не говорили: «Насытиться бы нам его мясом! » –

If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

32 н о и странник не ночевал на улице, ведь мои двери отворялись прохожему –

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

33 е сли я скрывал свой грех, как Адам, в сердце своем прятал вину,

If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

34 и з-за страха перед толпой, из-за боязни перед сородичами, – то я бы молчал и сидел взаперти.

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

35 ( О если бы кто-нибудь меня выслушал! Вот подпись моя. Пусть Всемогущий ответит. Пусть мой обвинитель запишет свое обвинение.

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

36 О , я носил бы его на плече, надевал его, как венец.

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

37 К аждый свой шаг я открыл бы Ему, и, как князь, приблизился бы к Нему.)

I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

38 Е сли взывала против меня земля, и рыдали ее борозды вместе,

If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

39 п отому что я ел ее плод, и не платил за него, и душу владельцев ее изнурял,

If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

40 т о пусть растет вместо хлеба терн и сорные травы взамен ячменя. Закончились слова Иова.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
