1 E fraín es apacentado del viento, y sigue al solano; mentira y destrucción aumentan continuamente; porque hicieron alianza con los asirios, y el aceite se lleva a Egipto.

Ephraim herds and feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind; every day he increases lies and violence, and a covenant is made with Assyria and oil is carried to Egypt.

2 P leito tiene el SEÑOR con Judá para visitar a Jacob conforme a sus caminos; le pagará conforme a sus obras.

The Lord has also a controversy (a pleading contention) with Judah, and will punish Jacob by visiting upon him according to his ways; according to his doings will He recompense him.

3 E n el vientre tomó por el calcañar a su hermano, y con su fortaleza venció al ángel.

He took his brother by the heel in womb, and in the strength he contended and had power with God.

4 D ominó al ángel, y prevaleció; lloró, y le rogó; en Bet-el le halló, y allí habló con nosotros.

Yes, he had power over the Angel and prevailed; he wept and sought His favor. He met Him in Bethel, and there spoke with us—

5 M as el SEÑOR es Dios de los ejércitos; el SEÑOR es su memorial.

Even the Lord the God of hosts, the name of Him is the Lord.

6 T ú, pues, conviértete a tu Dios; guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios espera siempre.

Therefore return to your God! Hold fast to love and mercy, to righteousness and justice, and wait for your God continually!

7 E s mercader que tiene en su mano peso falso, amador de opresión.

Canaan is a trader; the balances of deceit are in his hand; he loves to oppress and defraud.

8 Y dijo Efraín: Ciertamente yo he enriquecido, he hallado riquezas para mí; nadie hallará en mí iniquidad, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos.

Ephraim has said, Ah, but I have become rich; I have gained for myself wealth. All my profits shall bring on me no iniquity that would be sin.

9 P ero yo soy el SEÑOR tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto; aún te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.

But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt will yet make you to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed and solemn Feast.

10 Y hablé por los profetas, y yo aumenté las visiones, y por mano de los profetas puse semejanzas.

I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions and through parables acted out by the prophets.

11 ¿ Es Galaad iniquidad? Ciertamente vanidad son; en Gilgal sacrificaron bueyes; y aún son sus altares como montones en los surcos del campo.

If Gilead is given over to idolatry, they shall come to nought and be mere waste; if they sacrificing bullocks in Gilgal, their altars shall be like heaps in the furrows of the fields.

12 M as Jacob huyó a tierra de Aram, y sirvió Israel por su mujer, y por su mujer fue pastor.

Jacob fled into the open country of Aram or Padan-aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he herded sheep.

13 Y por profeta hizo subir el SEÑOR a Israel de Egipto, y por profeta fue guardado.

And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was preserved.

14 E nojó Efraín a Dios con amarguras; por tanto, su sangre se derramará sobre él, y su Señor le pagará su oprobio.

Ephraim has provoked most bitter anger; therefore shall his blood be left upon him, and his disgrace and reproach shall his Lord return upon him.
