1 Y vino el espíritu de Dios sobre Azarías hijo de Obed;

The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded.

2 y salió al encuentro de Asa, y le dijo: Oídme, Asa, y todo Judá y Benjamín: El SEÑOR estará con vosotros, si vosotros estáis con él; y si le buscareis, será hallado de vosotros; mas si le dejareis, él también os dejará.

And he went out to meet Asa and said to him, Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: the Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.

3 M uchos días ha estado Israel sin verdadero Dios, y sin sacerdote, y sin enseñador, y sin ley;

Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law.

4 m as cuando con su tribulación se convirtieron al SEÑOR Dios de Israel, y le buscaron, él fue hallado de ellos.

But when they in their trouble turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought Him, He was found by them.

5 E n aquellos tiempos no hubo paz, ni para el que entraba, ni para el que salía, sino muchas destrucciones sobre todos los habitantes de las tierras.

And in those times there was no peace to him who went out nor to him who came in, but great and vexing afflictions and disturbances were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.

6 Y una gente destruía a la otra, y una ciudad a otra; porque Dios los conturbó con toda clase de calamidades.

Nation was broke in pieces against nation, and city against city, for God vexed and troubled them with all sorts of adversity.

7 E sforzaos pues vosotros, y no descoyunten vuestras manos; que salario hay para vuestra obra.

Be strong, therefore, and let not your hands be weak and slack, for your work shall be rewarded.

8 Y cuando oyó Asa las palabras y profecía de Obed, el profeta, fue confortado, y quitó las abominaciones de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de todas las ciudades que él había tomado en el monte de Efraín; y reparó el altar del SEÑOR que estaba delante del pórtico del SEÑOR.

And when Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage and put away the abominable idols from all the land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities which he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim; and he repaired the altar of the Lord which was in front of the porch or vestibule of the Lord.

9 E hizo juntar a todo Judá y Benjamín, y con ellos los extranjeros de Efraín, de Manasés, y de Simeón; porque muchos de Israel se habían pasado a él, viendo que el SEÑOR su Dios estaba con él.

And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin and the strangers with them out of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon, for they came over to Asa out of Israel in large numbers when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.

10 S e congregaron, pues, en Jerusalén en el mes tercero, a los quince años del reinado de Asa.

So they gathered at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

11 Y en aquel mismo día sacrificaron al SEÑOR, de los despojos que habían traído, setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas.

And they sacrificed to the Lord on that day from the spoil which they had brought—700 oxen and 7, 000 sheep.

12 Y entraron en pacto de que buscarían al SEÑOR el Dios de sus padres, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma;

And they entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, and to yearn for Him with all their heart’s desire and with all their soul;

13 y que cualquiera que no buscara al SEÑOR el Dios de Israel, moriría, grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer.

And that whoever would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.

14 Y juraron al SEÑOR con gran voz y gritos, al son de las trompetas y de los shofarot.

They took an oath to the Lord with a loud voice, with shouting, with trumpets, and with cornets.

15 D e este juramento todos los de Judá se alegraron; porque con todo su corazón lo juraban, y con toda su voluntad le buscaban; y fue hallado de ellos; y les dio el SEÑOR reposo por todas partes.

And all Judah rejoiced at the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and sought Him with their whole desire, and He was found by them. And the Lord gave them rest and peace round about.

16 Y aun a Maaca madre del rey Asa, él mismo la depuso que no fuera reina, porque había hecho un ídolo en el bosque; y Asa deshizo su ídolo, y lo desmenuzó, y lo quemó en el arroyo de Cedrón.

Also Maacah, King Asa’s mother, he removed from being queen mother, because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her idol, crushed it, and burned it at the brook Kidron.

17 M as con todo eso los lugares altos no eran quitados de Israel, aunque el corazón de Asa fue perfecto mientras vivió.

But the high places were not taken out of Israel. Nevertheless, the heart of Asa was blameless all his days.

18 Y metió en la Casa de Dios lo que su padre había dedicado, y lo que él había consagrado, plata, oro y vasos.

And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated and those he himself had dedicated—silver and gold and vessels.

19 Y no hubo guerra hasta los treinta y cinco años del reinado de Asa.

And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.
