1 ¡ Ay de la ciudad de sangre, toda llena de mentira y de rapiña, no se aparta de ella el robo!

Woe to the bloody city! It is full of lies and booty and no end to the plunder!

2 S onido de látigo, y estruendo de movimiento de ruedas; y caballo atropellador, y carro saltador se oirá en ti;

The cracking of the whip, the noise of the rattling of wheels, and prancing horses and chariots rumbling and bounding,

3 C aballero enhiesto, y resplandor de espada, y resplandor de lanza; y multitud de muertos, y multitud de cadáveres; y de sus cadáveres no habrá fin, y en sus cadáveres tropezarán:

Horsemen mounting and charging, the flashing sword, the gleaming spear, a multitude of slain and a great number of corpses, no end of corpses! stumble over the corpses!

4 A causa de la multitud de las fornicaciones de la ramera de hermosa gracia, maestra de hechizos, que vende en esclavitud los gentiles con sus fornicaciones, y a los pueblos con sus hechizos.

All because of the multitude of the harlotries, the well-favored harlot, the mistress of deadly charms who betrays and sells nations through her whoredoms and peoples through her enchantments.

5 H eme aquí contra ti, dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, y descubriré tus faldas en tu cara, y mostraré a los gentiles tu desnudez, y a los reinos tu vergüenza.

Behold, I am against you, says the Lord of hosts, and I will lift up your skirts over your face, and I will let the nations look on your nakedness and the kingdoms on your shame.

6 Y echaré sobre ti suciedades, y te afrentaré, y te pondré como estiércol.

I will cast abominable things at you and make you filthy, treat you with contempt, and make you a gazingstock.

7 Y será que todos los que te vieren, se apartarán de ti, y dirán: Nínive es asolada; ¿quién se compadecerá de ella? ¿Dónde te buscaré consoladores?

And all who look on you will shrink and flee from you and say, Nineveh is laid waste; who will pity and bemoan her? Where shall I seek comforters for you?

8 ¿ Eres tú mejor que No-amón, que estaba asentada entre ríos, cercada de aguas, cuyo baluarte era el mar, y de mar su muralla?

Are you better than No-amon, that dwelt by the rivers or canals, that had the waters round about her, whose rampart was a sea and water her wall?

9 E tiopía era su fortaleza, y Egipto sin límite; Fut y Libia fueron en tu ayuda.

Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and that without limit. Put and the Libyans were her helpers.

10 T ambién ella fue llevada en cautiverio; también sus chiquitos fueron estrellados en las encrucijadas de todas las calles; y sobre sus honrados echaron suertes, y todos sus nobles fueron aprisionados con grillos.

Yet she was carried away; she went into captivity. Her young children also were dashed in pieces at all the street corners; lots were cast for her nobles, and all her great men were bound with chains.

11 T ú también serás embriagada, serás encerrada; tú también buscarás fortaleza a causa del enemigo.

You will be drunk; you will be dazed. You will seek and require a refuge because of the enemy.

12 T odas tus fortalezas son como higueras con brevas; que si las sacuden, caen en la boca del que las ha de comer.

All your fortresses are fig trees with early figs; if they are shaken they will fall into the mouth of the eater.

13 H e aquí, tu pueblo será como mujeres en medio de ti; las puertas de tu tierra se abrirán de par en par a tus enemigos; fuego consumirá tus barras.

Behold, your troops in the midst of you are women; the gates of your land are set wide open to your enemies; fire consumes your bars.

14 P rovéete de agua para el cerco, fortifica tus fortalezas; entra en el lodo, pisa el barro, fortifica el horno.

Draw for yourself the water for a siege, make strong your fortresses! Go down into the clay pits and trample the mortar; make ready the brickkiln!

15 A llí te consumirá el fuego, te talará la espada, te devorará como pulgón; multiplícate como langosta, multiplícate como langosta.

there will the fire devour you; the sword will cut you off; it will destroy you as the locusts. Multiply yourselves like the licking locusts; make yourselves many like the swarming locusts!

16 M ultiplicaste tus mercaderes más que las estrellas del cielo; el pulgón hizo presa, y voló.

You increased your merchants more than the stars of the heavens. The swarming locust spreads itself and destroys, and then flies away.

17 T us príncipes serán como langostas, y tus grandes como langostas de langostas que se sientan en vallados en día de frío; salido el sol se mudan, y no se conoce el lugar donde estuvieron.

Your princes are like the grasshoppers and your marshals like the swarms of locusts which encamp in the hedges on a cold day—but when the sun rises, they fly away, and no one knows where they are.

18 D urmieron tus pastores, oh rey de Asiria, reposaron tus valientes; tu pueblo se derramó por los montes, y no hay quien lo junte.

Your shepherds are asleep, O king of Assyria; your nobles are lying still. Your people are scattered on the mountains and there is no one to gather them.

19 N o hay cura para tu quebradura; tu herida se encrudeció; todos los que oyeron tu fama, batirán las manos sobre ti, porque ¿sobre quién no pasó continuamente tu malicia?

There is no healing of your hurt; your wound is grievous. All who hear the news about you clap their hands over you. For upon whom has not your evil come continually?
