1 P alabra que vino a Jeremías del SEÑOR, después que Nabuzaradán capitán de la guardia le envió desde Ramá, cuando le tomó estando atado con esposas entre toda la transmigración de Jerusalén y de Judá que iban cautivos a Babilonia.

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him bound in chains among all who were carried away captive from Jerusalem and Judah, who were taken as exiles to Babylon.

2 T omó, pues, el capitán de la guardia a Jeremías, y le dijo: El SEÑOR tu Dios habló este mal contra este lugar;

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, The Lord your God pronounced evil upon this place.

3 y lo trajo e hizo el SEÑOR según que había dicho: porque pecasteis contra el SEÑOR, y no oísteis su voz, por tanto os ha venido esto.

Now the Lord has brought it about and has done as He said: because you have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed His voice, therefore this thing has come upon you.

4 Y ahora yo te he soltado hoy de las esposas que tenías en tus manos. Si te está bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, ven, y yo miraré por ti; mas si no te está bien venir conmigo a Babilonia, déjalo. Mira, toda la tierra está delante de ti; ve a donde mejor y más cómodo te pareciere ir.

Now, see, I am freeing you today from the chains upon your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will keep an eye on you and look after you well. But if it seems bad to you to come with me to Babylon, then do not do it. Behold, all the land is before you; wherever it seems good, right, and convenient for you to go, go there.

5 Y aun él no había respondido que se volvería, cuando el capitán le dijo: Vuélvete a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, al cual el rey de Babilonia ha puesto sobre todas las ciudades de Judá, y vive con él en medio del pueblo; o ve a donde te pareciere más cómodo ir. Y le dio el capitán de la guardia presentes y dones, y le envió.

While was hesitating, said, Go back then to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right for you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him an allowance of food and a present and let him go.

6 Y vino entonces Jeremías a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, a Mizpa, y moró con él en medio del pueblo que había quedado en la tierra.

Then Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and dwelt with him among the people who were left in the land.

7 Y todos los príncipes del ejército que estaban por el campo, ellos y sus hombres, oyeron como el rey de Babilonia había puesto a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam sobre la tierra, y que le había encomendado los hombres, y las mujeres, y los niños, y los pobres de la tierra; los que no fueron transportados a Babilonia,

Now when all the captains of the forces that were in the open country and their men heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah son of Ahikam governor in the land and had committed to him men, women, and children, those of the poorest of the land who had not been taken into exile to Babylon,

8 y vinieron luego a Gedalías en Mizpa, Ismael hijo de Netanías, y Johanán y Jonatán hijos de Carea, y Seraías hijo de Tanhumet, y los hijos de Efai netofatita, y Jezanías hijo de Maacati, ellos y su hombres.

They went to Gedaliah at Mizpah—Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

9 Y les juró Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán, a ellos y a sus hombres, diciendo: No tengáis temor de servir a los caldeos; habitad en la tierra, y servid al rey de Babilonia, y tendréis bien.

And Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, swore to them and their men, saying, Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans; dwell in land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 Y veis aquí que yo habito en Mizpa, para estar delante de los caldeos que vendrán a nosotros; mas vosotros, coged el vino, y el pan, y el aceite, y ponedlo en vuestros almacenes, y quedaos en vuestras ciudades que habéis tomado.

As for me, I will dwell at Mizpah to stand before the Chaldeans who come to us; but as for you, gather the juice, summer fruits and oil, and store them in your utensils, and dwell in your cities that you have seized.

11 Y asimismo todos los judíos que estaban en Moab, y entre los hijos de Amón, y en Edom, y los que estaban en todas las tierras, cuando oyeron decir cómo el rey de Babilonia había dejado algunos en Judea, y que había puesto sobre ellos a Gedalías hijo de Ahicam, hijo de Safán,

Likewise, when all the Jews who were in Moab and among the people of Ammon and in Edom and who were in all the other countries heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant in Judah and had set over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,

12 T odos estos judíos tornaron entonces de todas las partes adonde habían sido echados, y vinieron a tierra de Judá, a Gedalías en Mizpa; y cogieron vino y muchos frutos.

Then all the Jews returned from all the places to which they had been driven and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered a great abundance of juice and summer fruits.

13 Y Johanán, hijo de Carea, y todos los príncipes de los ejércitos que estaban en el campo, vinieron a Gedalías en Mizpa,

Moreover, Johanan son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces that were in the open country came to Gedaliah at Mizpah

14 y le dijeron: ¿No sabes de cierto cómo Baalis, rey de los hijos de Amón, ha enviado a Ismael hijo de Netanías, para matarte? Pero Gedalías hijo de Ahicam no les creyó.

And said to him, Do you know that Baalis king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to take your life? But Gedaliah son of Ahikam did not believe them.

15 E ntonces Johanán hijo de Carea habló a Gedalías en secreto, en Mizpa, diciendo: Yo iré ahora, y heriré a Ismael hijo de Netanías, y hombre no lo sabrá, ¿por qué te ha de matar, y todos los judíos que se han recogido a ti se dispersarán, y perecerá el resto de Judá?

Then Johanan son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray you, and I will slay Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no man will know it. Why should he slay you and cause all the Jews who are gathered to you to be scattered and the remnant of Judah to perish?

16 P ero Gedalías hijo de Ahicam dijo a Johanán hijo de Carea: No hagas esto, porque falso es lo que tú dices de Ismael.

But Gedaliah son of Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing, for you speak falsely of Ishmael.
