1 « Efraín se apacienta de viento, anda tras el viento del este todo el día; multiplica la mentira y la violencia, porque hicieron pacto con los asirios y llevan el aceite a Egipto.»

Ephraim herds and feeds on the wind and pursues the east wind; every day he increases lies and violence, and a covenant is made with Assyria and oil is carried to Egypt.

2 P leito tiene Jehová con Judá para castigar a Jacob conforme a su conducta; le pagará conforme a sus obras.

The Lord has also a controversy (a pleading contention) with Judah, and will punish Jacob by visiting upon him according to his ways; according to his doings will He recompense him.

3 E n el seno materno tomó por el calcañar a su hermano, y con su poder venció al ángel.

He took his brother by the heel in womb, and in the strength he contended and had power with God.

4 L uchó con el ángel y prevaleció; lloró y le rogó; lo halló en Bet-el, y allí habló con nosotros.

Yes, he had power over the Angel and prevailed; he wept and sought His favor. He met Him in Bethel, and there spoke with us—

5 M as Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos: ¡Jehová es su nombre!

Even the Lord the God of hosts, the name of Him is the Lord.

6 T ú, pues, vuélvete a tu Dios; guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios confía siempre.

Therefore return to your God! Hold fast to love and mercy, to righteousness and justice, and wait for your God continually!

7 « Canaán tiene en su mano pesas falsas, le gusta defraudar.

Canaan is a trader; the balances of deceit are in his hand; he loves to oppress and defraud.

8 E fraín dijo: “Ciertamente me he enriquecido, me he labrado una fortuna; nadie hallará iniquidad en mí, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos.”

Ephraim has said, Ah, but I have become rich; I have gained for myself wealth. All my profits shall bring on me no iniquity that would be sin.

9 P ero yo soy Jehová, tu Dios, desde la tierra de Egipto; aún te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.

But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt will yet make you to dwell in tents, as in the days of the appointed and solemn Feast.

10 » He hablado a los profetas, multipliqué las profecías y por medio de los profetas hablé en parábolas.

I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions and through parables acted out by the prophets.

11 ¿ Es Galaad iniquidad? Ciertamente vanidad han sido: En Gilgal sacrificaron bueyes, y sus altares son como montones de piedras sobre los surcos del campo.»

If Gilead is given over to idolatry, they shall come to nought and be mere waste; if they sacrificing bullocks in Gilgal, their altars shall be like heaps in the furrows of the fields.

12 P ero Jacob huyó a la tierra de Aram; Israel sirvió para adquirir una mujer, y por adquirir una mujer fue pastor.

Jacob fled into the open country of Aram or Padan-aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he herded sheep.

13 P or medio de un profeta, Jehová hizo subir a Israel de Egipto, y por un profeta fue guardado.

And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was preserved.

14 E fraín ha irritado a Dios amargamente; por tanto, su Señor hará recaer sobre él la sangre derramada y le pagará sus agravios.

Ephraim has provoked most bitter anger; therefore shall his blood be left upon him, and his disgrace and reproach shall his Lord return upon him.
