1 M as no habrá siempre oscuridad para la que está ahora en angustia, tal como la aflicción que le vino en el tiempo en que livianamente tocaron la primera vez a la tierra de Zabulón y a la tierra de Neftalí; pues al fin llenará de gloria el camino del mar, de aquel lado del Jordán, en Galilea de los gentiles.

But there shall be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time He will make it glorious, by the way of the Sea beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.

2 E l pueblo que andaba en tinieblas vio gran luz; a los que moraban en tierra de sombra de muerte, luz resplandeció sobre ellos.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined.

3 M ultiplicaste la gente y aumentaste la alegría. Se alegrarán delante de ti como se alegran en la siega, como se gozan al repartirse un botín.

You have multiplied the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before You like the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4 P orque tú quebraste su pesado yugo, la vara de su hombro y el cetro de su opresor, como en el día de Madián.

For the yoke of burden, and the staff or rod for their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, You have broken as in the day of Midian.

5 P orque todo calzado que lleva el guerrero en el tumulto de la batalla y todo manto revolcado en sangre, serán quemados, serán pasto del fuego.

For every warrior’s war boots and all his armor in the battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood shall be burned as fuel for the fire.

6 P orque un niño nos ha nacido, hijo nos ha sido dado, y el principado sobre su hombro. Se llamará su nombre «Admirable consejero», «Dios fuerte», «Padre eterno», «Príncipe de paz».

For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7 L o dilatado de su imperio y la paz no tendrán límite sobre el trono de David y sobre su reino, disponiéndolo y confirmándolo en juicio y en justicia desde ahora y para siempre. El celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto. La ira de Jehová contra Israel

Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

8 E l Señor lanzó una palabra contra Jacob, y ella ha caído en Israel.

The Lord has sent a word against Jacob, and it has lighted upon Israel.

9 L a conocerá todo el pueblo, Efraín y los moradores de Samaria, que dicen con soberbia y con altivez de corazón:

And all the people shall know it—even Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria —who said in pride and stoutness of heart,

10 « Los ladrillos cayeron, pero edificaremos de cantería; cortaron los sicómoros, pero en su lugar pondremos cedros.»

The bricks have fallen, but we will build with hewn stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.

11 P ero Jehová levantará a los enemigos de Rezín contra él. Juntará a sus enemigos:

Therefore the Lord has stirred up the adversaries of Rezin against, and He will stir up their enemies and arm and join them together,

12 d el oriente, a los sirios, y del poniente a los filisteos, y a boca llena devorarán a Israel. Ni con todo eso ha cesado su furor, sino que todavía su mano está extendida.

The Syrians before and the Philistines behind; and they will devour Israel with open mouth. For all this, anger is not turned away, but His hand is still stretched out.

13 P ero el pueblo no se convirtió al que lo castigaba ni buscó a Jehová de los ejércitos.

Yet the people turn not to Him Who smote them, neither do they seek the Lord of hosts.

14 Y Jehová, en un mismo día, cortará de Israel cabeza y cola, rama y caña.

Therefore the Lord will cut off from Israel head and tail — palm branch and rush in one day;

15 E l anciano y venerable de rostro es la cabeza; el profeta que enseña mentira es la cola.

The elderly and honored man, he is the head; and the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

16 P orque los gobernadores de este pueblo son engañadores y sus gobernados se pierden.

For they who lead this people cause them to err, and they who are led by them are swallowed up (destroyed).

17 P or tanto, el Señor no tomará contentamiento en sus jóvenes, ni de sus huérfanos y viudas tendrá misericordia; porque todos son falsos y malignos, y toda boca habla despropósitos. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, sino que todavía su mano está extendida.

Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will He have compassion on their fatherless and widows, for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this, anger is not turned away, but His hand is still stretched out.

18 P orque la maldad, encendida como un fuego, cardos y espinos devorará. Se encenderá en lo espeso del bosque, y serán alzados como remolinos de humo.

For wickedness burns like a fire; it devours the briers and thorns, and it kindles in the thickets of the forest; they roll upward in a column of smoke.

19 P or la ira de Jehová de los ejércitos se oscurece la tierra, y el pueblo es como pasto del fuego. El hombre no tiene piedad de su hermano.

Through the wrath of the Lord of hosts the land is darkened and burned up, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no man spares his brother.

20 C ada uno devora a la derecha y tiene hambre; come a la izquierda y no se sacia. Cada cual come la carne de su prójimo:

They snatch in discord on the right hand, but are still hungry; and they devour and destroy on the left hand, but are not satisfied. Each devours and destroys his own flesh or his neighbor’s.

21 M anasés devora a Efraín y Efraín a Manasés, y ambos se levantan contra Judá. Pero ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, sino que todavía su mano está extendida.

Manasseh Ephraim, and Ephraim Manasseh; but together they are against Judah. For all this, anger is not turned away, but His hand is still stretched out.
