1 A conteció, muchos días después que Jehová concediera paz a Israel de todos los enemigos que lo rodeaban, que Josué, ya viejo y avanzado en años,

A long time after that, when the Lord had given Israel rest from all their enemies round about, and Joshua had grown old and advanced in years,

2 l lamó a todo Israel, a sus ancianos, sus príncipes, sus jueces y sus oficiales, y les dijo: «Yo ya soy viejo y avanzado en años.

Joshua summoned all Israel, their elders, heads, judges, and officers, and said to them, I am old and advanced in years.

3 V osotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová, vuestro Dios, ha hecho con todas estas naciones por vuestra causa, pues Jehová, vuestro Dios, es quien ha peleado por vosotros.

And you have seen all that the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake; for it is the Lord your God Who has fought for you.

4 Y o os he repartido por suertes, como herencia para vuestras tribus, estas naciones, tanto las destruidas como las que quedan, desde el Jordán hasta el Mar Grande, hacia donde se pone el sol.

Behold, I have allotted to you as an inheritance for your tribes those nations that remain, with all the nations I have cut off, from the Jordan to the Great Sea on the west.

5 J ehová, vuestro Dios, las echará de delante de vosotros, las expulsará de vuestra presencia y vosotros poseeréis sus tierras, como Jehová, vuestro Dios, os ha dicho.

The Lord your God will thrust them out from before you and drive them out of your sight, and you shall possess their land, as the Lord your God promised you.

6 » Esforzaos, pues, mucho en guardar y hacer todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, sin apartaros de ello ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda,

So be very courageous and steadfast to keep and do all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, turning not aside from it to the right hand or the left,

7 p ara que no os mezcléis con estas naciones que han quedado entre vosotros, ni hagáis mención ni juréis por el nombre de sus dioses, ni los sirváis, ni os inclinéis a ellos.

That you may not mix with these nations that remain among you, or make mention of the names of their gods or swear by them or serve them or bow down to them.

8 P ero a Jehová, vuestro Dios, seguiréis como habéis hecho hasta hoy.

But cling to the Lord your God as you have done to this day.

9 P ues ha expulsado Jehová de vuestra presencia a naciones grandes y fuertes, y hasta hoy nadie os ha podido resistir.

For the Lord has driven out from before you great and strong nations; and as for you, no man has been able to withstand you to this day.

10 U n hombre de vosotros perseguirá a mil, porque Jehová, vuestro Dios, es quien pelea por vosotros, como él os dijo.

One man of you shall put to flight a thousand, for it is the Lord your God Who fights for you, as He promised you.

11 G uardad, pues, con diligencia vuestras almas, para que améis a Jehová, vuestro Dios.

Be very watchful of yourselves, therefore, to love the Lord your God.

12 P orque si os apartáis y os unís a lo que resta de estas naciones que han quedado entre vosotros, y si concertáis con ellas matrimonios, mezclándoos con ellas y ellas con vosotros,

For if you turn back and adhere to the remnant of these nations left among you and make marriages with them, you marrying their women and they yours,

13 s abed que Jehová, vuestro Dios, no seguirá expulsando ante vosotros a estas naciones, sino que os serán como lazo, trampa y azote para vuestros costados y espinas para vuestros ojos, hasta que desaparezcáis de esta buena tierra que Jehová, vuestro Dios, os ha dado.

Know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue to drive these nations from before you; but they shall be a snare and trap to you, and a scourge in your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

14 » Yo estoy próximo a entrar hoy por el camino que recorren todos. Reconoced, pues, con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma, que no ha faltado ni una sola de todas las bendiciones que Jehová, vuestro Dios, os había dicho; todas se os han cumplido, no ha faltado ninguna de ellas.

And behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth. Know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one thing of them has failed.

15 P ero así como se os han cumplido todas las bendiciones que Jehová, vuestro Dios, os había dicho, también traerá Jehová sobre vosotros todas sus maldiciones, hasta borraros de sobre la buena tierra que Jehová, vuestro Dios, os ha dado.

But just as all good things which the Lord promised you have come to you, so will the Lord carry out every evil upon you, until He has destroyed you from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you.

16 S i quebrantáis el pacto que Jehová, vuestro Dios, os ha mandado, yendo a honrar a dioses ajenos e inclinándoos ante ellos, entonces la ira de Jehová se encenderá contra vosotros y desapareceréis rápidamente de esta buena tierra que él os ha dado.»

If you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, if you serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land He has given you.
