1 L os filisteos reunieron todas sus fuerzas en Afec, e Israel acampó junto a la fuente que está en Jezreel.

Now the Philistines gathered all their forces at Aphek, and the Israelites encamped by the fountain in Jezreel.

2 M ientras los príncipes de los filisteos pasaban revista a sus compañías de a ciento y de a mil hombres, David y sus hombres iban en la retaguardia con Aquis.

As the Philistine lords were passing on by hundreds and by thousands, and David and his men were in the rear with Achish,

3 E ntonces los príncipes de los filisteos dijeron: —¿Qué hacen aquí estos hebreos? Aquis respondió a los príncipes de los filisteos: —¿No ven que es David, el siervo de Saúl, rey de Israel? Ha estado conmigo por días y años, y no he hallado falta en él desde que se pasó a mi servicio hasta el día de hoy.

The Philistine princes said, What are these Hebrews doing here? Achish said to the Philistine princes, Is not this David, the servant of Saul king of Israel, who has been with me these days and years, and I have found no fault in him since he deserted to me to this day?

4 E ntonces los príncipes de los filisteos se enojaron contra él, y le dijeron: —Despide a este hombre, para que regrese al lugar que le señalaste y no venga con nosotros a la batalla, no sea que en la batalla se vuelva enemigo nuestro; porque ¿con qué cosa retornaría mejor a la gracia de su señor que con las cabezas de estos hombres?

And the Philistine princes were angry with Achish and they said to him, Make this fellow return, that he may go again to his place where you have assigned him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For how could David reconcile himself to his master? Would it not be with the heads of the men here?

5 ¿ No es éste el David de quien cantaban en las danzas: “Saúl hirió a sus miles, y David a sus diez miles”?

Is not this David, of whom they sang to one another in dances, Saul slew his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

6 E ntonces Aquis llamó a David y le dijo: —¡Vive Jehová, tú has sido un hombre recto!, y me ha parecido bien que salgas y entres en el campamento conmigo, porque ninguna cosa mala he hallado en ti desde que viniste a mí hasta el día de hoy; pero no eres grato a los ojos de los príncipes.

Then Achish called David and said to him, As surely as the Lord lives, you have been honest and upright, and for you to go out and come in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have found no evil in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Yet the lords do not approve of you.

7 R egresa, pues, y vete en paz, para no desagradar a los príncipes de los filisteos.

So return now and go peaceably, so as not to displease the Philistine lords.

8 D avid dijo a Aquis: —¿Qué he hecho yo? ¿Qué has hallado en tu siervo desde que entré a tu servicio hasta el día de hoy, para que yo no vaya y pelee contra los enemigos del rey, mi señor?

David said to Achish, But what have I done? And what have you found in your servant as long as I have been with you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?

9 A quis respondió a David: —Sé que has sido bueno ante mis ojos, como un ángel de Dios; pero los príncipes de los filisteos me han dicho: “No venga con nosotros a la batalla.”

And Achish said to David, I know that you are as blameless in my sight as an angel of God; nevertheless the princes of the Philistines have said, He shall not go up with us to the battle.

10 L evántate, pues, de mañana, tú y los siervos de tu señor que han venido contigo, y marchaos de aquí en cuanto amanezca.

So now rise up early in the morning, with your master’s servants who have come with you, and as soon as you are up and have light, depart.

11 S e levantaron David y sus hombres de mañana para irse y regresar a la tierra de los filisteos; y los filisteos se fueron a Jezreel.

So David and his men rose up early in the morning to return to the land of the Philistines. But the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
