1 A conteció después de estas cosas, que el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto delinquieron contra su señor, el rey de Egipto.

Now some time later the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt offended their lord, Egypt’s king.

2 Y se enojó el faraón contra sus dos oficiales, el jefe de los coperos y el jefe de los panaderos,

And Pharaoh was angry with his officers, the chief of the butlers and the chief of the bakers.

3 y los puso en prisión en la casa del capitán de la guardia, en la cárcel donde José estaba preso.

He put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison where Joseph was confined.

4 E l capitán de la guardia encargó de ellos a José, para que los sirviera; y estuvieron durante un tiempo en la prisión.

And the captain of the guard put them in Joseph’s charge, and he served them; and they continued in custody for some time.

5 S ucedió que ambos, el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto, que estaban arrestados en la prisión, tuvieron un sueño en la misma noche, cada uno su propio sueño, cada uno con su propio significado.

And they both dreamed a dream in the same night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream—the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison.

6 V ino a ellos José por la mañana y vio que estaban tristes.

When Joseph came to them in the morning and looked at them, he saw that they were sad and depressed.

7 E ntonces preguntó a aquellos oficiales del faraón que estaban con él en la prisión de la casa de su señor: —¿Por qué tienen hoy mal aspecto vuestros semblantes?

So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were in custody with him in his master’s house, Why do you look so dejected and sad today?

8 E llos le dijeron: —Hemos tenido un sueño y no hay quien lo interprete. José les dijo: —¿No son de Dios las interpretaciones? Contádmelo ahora.

And they said to him, We have dreamed dreams, and there is no one to interpret them. And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me, I pray you.

9 E ntonces el jefe de los coperos contó su sueño a José, y le dijo: —Yo soñaba que veía una vid delante de mí

And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph and said to him, In my dream I saw a vine before me,

10 y en la vid, tres sarmientos; y ella echaba brotes, florecía y maduraban sus racimos de uvas.

And on the vine were three branches. Then it was as though it budded; its blossoms burst forth and the clusters of them brought forth ripe grapes.

11 Y que la copa del faraón estaba en mi mano, y tomando yo las uvas las exprimía en la copa del faraón, y ponía la copa en la mano del faraón.

And Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup; then I gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

12 J osé le dijo: —Ésta es su interpretación: los tres sarmientos son tres días.

And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.

13 A l cabo de tres días levantará el faraón tu cabeza, te restituirá a tu puesto y darás la copa al faraón en su mano, como solías hacer cuando eras su copero.

Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your position, and you will again put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, as when you were his butler.

14 A cuérdate, pues, de mí cuando te vaya bien; te ruego que tengas misericordia y hagas mención de mí al faraón, y que me saques de esta casa,

But think of me when it shall be well with you and show kindness, I beg of you, to me, and mention me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house.

15 p orque fui raptado de la tierra de los hebreos y nada he hecho aquí para que me pusieran en la cárcel.

For truly I was carried away from the land of the Hebrews by unlawful force, and here too I have done nothing for which they should put me into the dungeon.

16 V iendo el jefe de los panaderos que aquella interpretación había sido para bien, dijo a José: —También yo soñé que veía tres canastillos blancos sobre mi cabeza.

When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, I also dreamed, and behold, I had three cake baskets on my head.

17 E n el canastillo más alto había toda clase de manjares de pastelería para el faraón, y las aves los comían del canastillo de sobre mi cabeza.

And in the uppermost basket were some of all kinds of baked food for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating out of the basket on my head.

18 E ntonces respondió José, y dijo: —Ésta es su interpretación: Los tres canastillos son tres días.

And Joseph answered, This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days.

19 A l cabo de tres días quitará el faraón tu cabeza de sobre ti. Te hará colgar en la horca, y las aves comerán la carne que te cubre.

Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head but will have you beheaded and hung on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh.

20 A l tercer día, que era el día del cumpleaños del faraón, el rey ofreció un banquete a todos sus sirvientes; y alzó la cabeza del jefe de los coperos y la cabeza del jefe de los panaderos en presencia de sus servidores.

And on the third day, Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the heads of the chief butler and the chief baker among his servants.

21 H izo volver a su oficio al jefe de los coperos, y volvió éste a poner la copa en la mano del faraón.

And he restored the chief butler to his butlership, and the butler gave the cup into Pharaoh’s hand;

22 P ero hizo ahorcar al jefe de los panaderos, como José lo había interpretado.

But hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23 S in embargo, el jefe de los coperos no se acordó de José, sino que lo olvidó.

But the chief butler gave no thought to Joseph, but forgot him.
