1 S i Jehová no edifica la casa, en vano trabajan los que la edifican; si Jehová no guarda la ciudad, en vano vela la guardia.

Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; except the Lord keeps the city, the watchman wakes but in vain.

2 P or demás es que os levantéis de madrugada y vayáis tarde a reposar, y que comáis pan de dolores, pues que a su amado dará Dios el sueño.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to take rest late, to eat the bread of toil—for He gives to His beloved in sleep.

3 H erencia de Jehová son los hijos; cosa de estima el fruto del vientre.

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.

4 C omo saetas en manos del valiente, así son los hijos tenidos en la juventud.

As arrows are in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth.

5 ¡ Bienaventurado el hombre que llenó su aljaba de ellos! No será avergonzado cuando hable en la puerta con los enemigos.

Happy, blessed, and fortunate is the man whose quiver is filled with them! They will not be put to shame when they speak with their adversaries at the gate.
