1 P artió David de allí y se refugió en la cueva de Adulam; cuando sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre lo supieron, fueron allí a reunirse con él.

So David departed and escaped to the cave of Adullam: and when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.

2 A demás se le unieron todos los afligidos, todos los que estaban endeudados y todos los que se hallaban en amargura de espíritu, y llegó a ser su jefe. Había con él como cuatrocientos hombres.

And everyone in distress or in debt or discontented gathered to him, and he became a commander over them. And there were with him about 400 men.

3 D e allí se fue David a Mizpa de Moab, y dijo al rey de Moab: «Te ruego que mi padre y mi madre se queden con vosotros, hasta que sepa lo que Dios hará de mí.»

And David went from there to Mizpah of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray you, come out and be with you till I know what God will do for me.

4 L os trajo, pues, a la presencia del rey de Moab, y habitaron con él todo el tiempo que David estuvo en el lugar fuerte.

And he brought them before the king of Moab, and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.

5 P ero el profeta Gad dijo a David: «No te quedes en este lugar fuerte; anda y vete a tierra de Judá.» Entonces partió David y entró en el bosque de Haret. Asesinato de los sacerdotes de Nob

Then the prophet Gad said to David, Do not remain in the stronghold; leave, and get into the land of Judah. So David left and went into the forest of Hareth.

6 O yó Saúl que David y los que estaban con él habían sido vistos. Estaba Saúl sentado en Gabaa, debajo de un tamarisco, sobre un alto, con la lanza en su mano, y rodeado de todos sus siervos.

Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him. Saul was sitting in Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the height, his spear in his hand and all his servants standing about him.

7 Y dijo Saúl a los siervos que estaban alrededor de él: —Oíd ahora, hijos de Benjamín: ¿Os dará también a todos vosotros el hijo de Isaí tierras y viñas, y os hará a todos vosotros jefes de millares y jefes de centenas,

Saul said to his servants who stood about him, Hear now, you Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards and make you all commanders of thousands and hundreds,

8 p ara que todos vosotros hayáis conspirado contra mí? ¿No ha habido quien me informara de cómo mi hijo ha hecho alianza con el hijo de Isaí, ni hay ninguno de vosotros que se conduela de mí y me dé a conocer cómo mi hijo ha sublevado contra mí a un siervo mío para que me aceche, tal como lo hace hoy?

That all of you have conspired against me? No one discloses to me when my son makes a league with the son of Jesse. None of you is sorry for me or discloses that my son has stirred up my servant against me to lie in wait, as he does this day?

9 E ntonces Doeg, el edomita, que era el principal de los siervos de Saúl, respondió: —Yo vi al hijo de Isaí venir a Nob, adonde estaba Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob.

Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood with Saul’s servants, said, I saw the son of Jesse come to Nob, to Ahimelech son of Ahitub.

10 É ste consultó a Jehová por él, le dio provisiones y también la espada de Goliat, el filisteo.

And inquired of the Lord for him, and gave him provisions and the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

11 M andó el rey a llamar al sacerdote Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob, y a toda la casa de su padre, los sacerdotes que estaban en Nob, y todos vinieron ante el rey.

Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were at Nob, and they all came to the king.

12 Y Saúl dijo: —Oye ahora, hijo de Ahitob. —Heme aquí, señor mío —respondió él.

Saul said, Hear now, you son of Ahitub. He replied, Here I am, my lord.

13 S aúl añadió: —¿Por qué habéis conspirado contra mí, tú y el hijo de Isaí? Le diste pan y una espada, y consultaste a Dios por él, para que se subleve contra mí y me aceche, como lo hace en el día de hoy.

Saul said to him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, giving him bread and a sword and inquiring of God for him, so he could rise against me to lie in wait, as he does this day?

14 A himelec respondió al rey: —¿Y quién entre todos tus siervos es tan fiel como David, que además es yerno del rey, sirve a tus órdenes y todos lo honran en tu propia casa?

Then Ahimelech answered the king, And who is so faithful among all your servants as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and is taken into your council and honored in your house?

15 ¿ Acaso he comenzado hoy a consultar a Dios por él? ¡No, lejos de mí! Que el rey no culpe de cosa alguna a su siervo, ni a toda la casa de mi padre; porque tu siervo ninguna cosa, grande ni pequeña, sabe de este asunto.

Have I only today begun inquiring of God for him? No! Let not the king impute any wrong to his servant or to all the house of my father, for your servant has known nothing of all this, little or much.

16 P ero el rey respondió: —Sin duda morirás, Ahimelec, tú y toda la casa de tu padre.

said, You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.

17 L uego dijo el rey a la gente de su guardia que estaba a su lado: —Volveos y matad a los sacerdotes de Jehová; porque también la mano de ellos está con David, pues sabiendo ellos que huía, no me lo hicieron saber. Pero los siervos del rey no quisieron extender sus manos para matar a los sacerdotes de Jehová.

And the king said to the guard that stood about him, Turn and slay the Lord’s priests, because their hand also is with David and because they knew that he fled and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hands against the Lord’s priests.

18 E ntonces dijo el rey a Doeg: —Vuélvete y arremete contra los sacerdotes. Y se volvió Doeg, el edomita, atacó a los sacerdotes y mató en aquel día a ochenta y cinco hombres que vestían efod de lino.

The king said to Doeg, You turn and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned and attacked the priests and slew that day eighty-five persons who wore the priest’s linen ephod.

19 Y a Nob, ciudad de los sacerdotes, la pasó Saúl a filo de espada: a hombres, mujeres y niños, hasta los de pecho, y bueyes, asnos y ovejas, todo lo hirió a filo de espada.

And Nob, the city of the priests, he smote with the sword; both men and women, children and sucklings, oxen and donkeys and sheep, he put to the sword.

20 P ero uno de los hijos de Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob, que se llamaba Abiatar, pudo escapar, y huyó tras David.

And one of the sons of Ahimelech son of Ahitub named Abiathar escaped and fled after David.

21 A biatar dio aviso a David de cómo Saúl había dado muerte a los sacerdotes de Jehová.

And Abiathar told David that Saul had slain the Lord’s priests.

22 Y David le dijo: —Ya sabía yo aquel día que estando allí Doeg, el edomita, él se lo haría saber a Saúl. He ocasionado la muerte a todas las personas de la casa de tu padre.

David said to Abiathar, I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have occasioned the death of all your father’s house.

23 Q uédate conmigo, no temas; quien busque mi vida, buscará también la tuya; pero conmigo estarás a salvo.

Stay with me, fear not; for he who seeks my life seeks your life. But with me you shall be safeguarded.
