1 A cerca de los tiempos y de las ocasiones, no tenéis necesidad, hermanos, de que yo os escriba,

But as to the suitable times and the precise seasons and dates, brethren, you have no necessity for anything being written to you.

2 p orque vosotros sabéis perfectamente que el día del Señor vendrá así como ladrón en la noche.

For you yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.

3 C uando digan: «Paz y seguridad», entonces vendrá sobre ellos destrucción repentina, como los dolores a la mujer encinta, y no escaparán.

When people are saying, All is well and secure, and, There is peace and safety, then in a moment unforeseen destruction (ruin and death) will come upon them as suddenly as labor pains come upon a woman with child; and they shall by no means escape, for there will be no escape.

4 P ero vosotros, hermanos, no estáis en tinieblas, para que aquel día os sorprenda como ladrón.

But you are not in darkness, brethren, for that day to overtake you by surprise like a thief.

5 P orque todos vosotros sois hijos de luz e hijos del día; no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas.

For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness.

6 P or tanto, no durmamos como los demás, sino vigilemos y seamos sobrios,

Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect).

7 p ues los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan.

For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night.

8 P ero nosotros, que somos del día, seamos sobrios, habiéndonos vestido con la coraza de la fe y del amor, y con la esperanza de salvación como casco.

But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

9 D ios no nos ha puesto para ira, sino para alcanzar salvación por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo,

For God has not appointed us to wrath, but obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)

10 q uien murió por nosotros para que ya sea que vigilemos, o que durmamos, vivamos juntamente con él.

Who died for us so that whether we are still alive or are dead, we might live together with Him and share His life.

11 P or lo cual, animaos unos a otros y edificaos unos a otros, así como lo estáis haciendo. Pablo exhorta a los hermanos

Therefore encourage (admonish, exhort) one another and edify (strengthen and build up) one another, just as you are doing.

12 O s rogamos, hermanos, que reconozcáis a los que trabajan entre vosotros y os presiden en el Señor y os amonestan.

Now also we beseech you, brethren, get to know those who labor among you —your leaders who are over you in the Lord and those who warn and kindly reprove and exhort you.

13 T enedlos en mucha estima y amor por causa de su obra. Tened paz entre vosotros.

And hold them in very high and most affectionate esteem in appreciation of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

14 T ambién os rogamos, hermanos, que amonestéis a los ociosos, que alentéis a los de poco ánimo, que sostengáis a los débiles, que seáis pacientes para con todos.

And we earnestly beseech you, brethren, admonish (warn and seriously advise) those who are out of line; encourage the timid and fainthearted, help and give your support to the weak souls, be very patient with everybody.

15 M irad que ninguno pague a otro mal por mal, antes seguid siempre lo bueno unos para con otros y para con todos.

See that none of you repays another with evil for evil, but always aim to show kindness and seek to do good to one another and to everybody.

16 E stad siempre gozosos.

Be happy and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always);

17 O rad sin cesar.

Be unceasing in prayer;

18 D ad gracias en todo, porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios para con vosotros en Cristo Jesús.

Thank in everything, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

19 N o apaguéis al Espíritu.

Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the Spirit;

20 N o menospreciéis las profecías.

Do not spurn the gifts and utterances of the prophets.

21 E xaminadlo todo y retened lo bueno.

But test and prove all things what is good; hold fast.

22 A bsteneos de toda especie de mal.

Abstain from evil in whatever form or whatever kind it may be.

23 Q ue el mismo Dios de paz os santifique por completo; y todo vuestro ser —espíritu, alma y cuerpo— sea guardado irreprochable para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

24 F iel es el que os llama, el cual también lo hará.

Faithful is He Who is calling you and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it.

25 H ermanos, orad por nosotros.

Brethren, pray for us.

26 S aludad a todos los hermanos con beso santo.

Greet all the brethren with a sacred kiss.

27 O s encargo encarecidamente, por el Señor, que esta carta se lea a todos los santos hermanos.

I solemnly charge you the Lord to have this letter read before all the brethren.

28 L a gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con vosotros. Amén.

The grace (the unmerited favor and blessings) of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be with you all. Amen, (so be it).
