1 S imón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que habéis alcanzado, por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo, una fe igualmente preciosa que la nuestra:

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle (special messenger) of Jesus Christ, to those who have received (obtained an equal privilege of) like precious faith with ourselves in and through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 G racia y paz os sean multiplicadas, en el conocimiento de Dios y de nuestro Señor Jesús. Partícipes de la naturaleza divina

May grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in '> precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 T odas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, mediante el conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia;

For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that to life and godliness, through the '> full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

4 p or medio de estas cosas nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas lleguéis a ser participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huido de la corrupción que hay en el mundo a causa de las pasiones.

By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

5 P or esto mismo, poned toda diligencia en añadir a vuestra fe virtud; a la virtud, conocimiento;

For this very reason, adding your diligence, employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in virtue knowledge (intelligence),

6 a l conocimiento, dominio propio; al dominio propio, paciencia; a la paciencia, piedad;

And in knowledge self-control, and in self-control steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in steadfastness godliness (piety),

7 a la piedad, afecto fraternal; y al afecto fraternal, amor.

And in godliness brotherly affection, and in brotherly affection Christian love.

8 S i tenéis estas cosas y abundan en vosotros, no os dejarán estar ociosos ni sin fruto en cuanto al conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep from being idle or unfruitful unto the '> full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

9 P ero el que no tiene estas cosas es muy corto de vista; está ciego, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus antiguos pecados.

For whoever lacks these qualities is blind, '> spiritually] shortsighted, seeing only what is near to him, and has become oblivious that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 P or lo cual, hermanos, tanto más procurad hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección, porque haciendo estas cosas, jamás caeréis.

Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.

11 D e esta manera os será otorgada amplia y generosa entrada en el reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

Thus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

12 P or esto, yo no dejaré de recordaros siempre estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.

So I intend always to remind you about these things, although indeed you know them and are firm in the truth that now.

13 T engo por justo, en tanto que estoy en este cuerpo, el despertaros con amonestación,

I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle (tent, body), to stir you up by way of remembrance,

14 s abiendo que en breve debo abandonar el cuerpo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me ha declarado.

Since I know that the laying aside of this body of mine will come speedily, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

15 T ambién yo procuraré con diligencia que, después de mi partida, vosotros podáis en todo momento tener memoria de estas cosas. Testigos presenciales de la gloria de Cristo

Moreover, I will diligently endeavor that after my departure (decease) you may be able at all times to call these things to mind.

16 N o os hemos dado a conocer el poder y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo siguiendo fábulas artificiosas, sino como habiendo visto con nuestros propios ojos su majestad,

For we were not following cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty (grandeur, authority of sovereign power).

17 p ues cuando él recibió de Dios Padre honra y gloria, le fue enviada desde la magnífica gloria una voz que decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado, en el cual tengo complacencia.»

For when He was invested with honor and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased and delight,

18 Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos con él en el monte santo.

We heard this voice borne out of heaven, for we were together with Him on the holy mountain.

19 T enemos también la palabra profética más segura, a la cual hacéis bien en estar atentos como a una antorcha que alumbra en lugar oscuro, hasta que el día amanezca y el lucero de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones.

And we have the prophetic word firmer still. You will do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place, until the day breaks through and the Morning Star rises ( comes into being) in your hearts.

20 P ero ante todo entended que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de interpretación privada,

first understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving).

21 p orque nunca la profecía fue traída por voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados por el Espíritu Santo.

For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it, but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.
