1 S imón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que han recibido una fe como la nuestra, mediante la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador, Jesucristo:

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle (special messenger) of Jesus Christ, to those who have received (obtained an equal privilege of) like precious faith with ourselves in and through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 G racia y paz os sean multiplicadas en el conocimiento de Dios y de Jesús nuestro Señor. Virtudes del cristiano

May grace (God’s favor) and peace (which is perfect well-being, all necessary good, all spiritual prosperity, and freedom from fears and agitating passions and moral conflicts) be multiplied to you in '> precise, and correct] knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

3 P ues su divino poder nos ha concedido todo cuanto concierne a la vida y a la piedad, mediante el verdadero conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia,

For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that to life and godliness, through the '> full, personal] knowledge of Him Who called us by and to His own glory and excellence (virtue).

4 p or medio de las cuales nos ha concedido sus preciosas y maravillosas promesas, a fin de que por ellas lleguéis a ser partícipes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo escapado de la corrupción que hay en el mundo por causa de la concupiscencia.

By means of these He has bestowed on us His precious and exceedingly great promises, so that through them you may escape from the moral decay (rottenness and corruption) that is in the world because of covetousness (lust and greed), and become sharers (partakers) of the divine nature.

5 P or esta razón también, obrando con toda diligencia, añadid a vuestra fe, virtud, y a la virtud, conocimiento;

For this very reason, adding your diligence, employ every effort in exercising your faith to develop virtue (excellence, resolution, Christian energy), and in virtue knowledge (intelligence),

6 a l conocimiento, dominio propio, al dominio propio, perseverancia, y a la perseverancia, piedad,

And in knowledge self-control, and in self-control steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in steadfastness godliness (piety),

7 a la piedad, fraternidad y a la fraternidad, amor.

And in godliness brotherly affection, and in brotherly affection Christian love.

8 P ues estas virtudes, al estar en vosotros y al abundar, no os dejarán ociosos ni estériles en el verdadero conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep from being idle or unfruitful unto the '> full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

9 P orque el que carece de estas virtudes es ciego o corto de vista, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus pecados pasados.

For whoever lacks these qualities is blind, '> spiritually] shortsighted, seeing only what is near to him, and has become oblivious that he was cleansed from his old sins.

10 A sí que, hermanos, sed tanto más diligentes para hacer firme vuestro llamado y elección de parte de Dios; porque mientras hagáis estas cosas nunca tropezaréis;

Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.

11 p ues de esta manera os será concedida ampliamente la entrada al reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. Propósito de la carta

Thus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

12 P or tanto, siempre estaré listo para recordaros estas cosas, aunque vosotros ya las sabéis y habéis sido confirmados en la verdad que está presente en vosotros.

So I intend always to remind you about these things, although indeed you know them and are firm in the truth that now.

13 Y considero justo, mientras esté en este cuerpo, estimularos recordándoos estas cosas,

I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle (tent, body), to stir you up by way of remembrance,

14 s abiendo que mi separación del cuerpo terrenal es inminente, tal como me lo ha declarado nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Since I know that the laying aside of this body of mine will come speedily, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me.

15 T ambién yo procuraré con diligencia, que en todo tiempo, después de mi partida, podáis recordar estas cosas. Testigos de la gloria de Cristo

Moreover, I will diligently endeavor that after my departure (decease) you may be able at all times to call these things to mind.

16 P orque cuando os dimos a conocer el poder y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, no seguimos fábulas ingeniosamente inventadas, sino que fuimos testigos oculares de su majestad.

For we were not following cleverly devised stories when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty (grandeur, authority of sovereign power).

17 P ues cuando El recibió honor y gloria de Dios Padre, la majestuosa Gloria le hizo esta declaración: Este es mi Hijo amado en quien me he complacido;

For when He was invested with honor and glory from God the Father and a voice was borne to Him by the Majestic Glory, This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased and delight,

18 y nosotros mismos escuchamos esta declaración, hecha desde el cielo cuando estábamos con El en el monte santo. La palabra profética

We heard this voice borne out of heaven, for we were together with Him on the holy mountain.

19 Y así tenemos la palabra profética más segura, a la cual hacéis bien en prestar atención como a una lámpara que brilla en el lugar oscuro, hasta que el día despunte y el lucero de la mañana aparezca en vuestros corazones.

And we have the prophetic word firmer still. You will do well to pay close attention to it as to a lamp shining in a dismal (squalid and dark) place, until the day breaks through and the Morning Star rises ( comes into being) in your hearts.

20 P ero ante todo sabed esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es asunto de interpretación personal,

first understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any personal or private or special interpretation (loosening, solving).

21 p ues ninguna profecía fue dada jamás por un acto de voluntad humana, sino que hombres inspirados por el Espíritu Santo hablaron de parte de Dios.

For no prophecy ever originated because some man willed it, but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) by the Holy Spirit.
