1 Y vinieron los hombres de Quiriat-jearim, tomaron el arca del Señor y la llevaron a la casa de Abinadab en la colina, y consagraron a Eleazar su hijo para que guardara el arca del Señor.

So the men of Kiriath-jearim came and took the ark of the Lord and brought it into the house of Abinadab on the hill and consecrated Eleazar his son to have charge of the ark of the Lord.

2 Y sucedió que pasó mucho tiempo, veinte años, desde el día en que el arca quedó en Quiriat-jearim; y toda la casa de Israel añoraba al Señor.

And the ark remained in Kiriath-jearim a very long time. For it was twenty years before all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

3 E ntonces Samuel habló a toda la casa de Israel, diciendo: Si os volvéis al Señor con todo vuestro corazón, quitad de entre vosotros los dioses extranjeros y las Astorets, y dirigid vuestro corazón al Señor, y servidle sólo a El; y El os librará de la mano de los filisteos.

Then Samuel said to all the house of Israel, If you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him only, and He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

4 L os hijos de Israel quitaron los baales y las Astorets, y sirvieron sólo al Señor.

So the Israelites put away the Baals and the Ashtaroth, and served the Lord only.

5 Y Samuel dijo: Reunid en Mizpa a todo Israel, y yo oraré al Señor por vosotros.

Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpah and I will pray to the Lord for you.

6 Y se reunieron en Mizpa, y sacaron agua y la derramaron delante del Señor, ayunaron aquel día y dijeron allí: Hemos pecado contra el Señor. Y Samuel juzgó a los hijos de Israel en Mizpa.

So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there, We have sinned against the Lord. And Samuel judged the Israelites at Mizpah.

7 C uando los filisteos oyeron que los hijos de Israel se habían reunido en Mizpa, los príncipes de los filisteos subieron contra Israel. Cuando oyeron esto los hijos de Israel, tuvieron temor de los filisteos.

Now when the Philistines heard that the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the Israelites heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

8 E ntonces los hijos de Israel dijeron a Samuel: No dejes de clamar al Señor nuestro Dios por nosotros, para que El nos libre de la mano de los filisteos.

And the Israelites said to Samuel, Do not cease to cry to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.

9 T omó Samuel un cordero de leche y lo ofreció como completo holocausto al Señor; y clamó Samuel al Señor por Israel y el Señor le respondió.

So Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord; and Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.

10 M ientras Samuel estaba ofreciendo el holocausto, los filisteos se acercaron para pelear con Israel. Mas el Señor tronó con gran estruendo aquel día contra los filisteos y los confundió, y fueron derrotados delante de Israel.

As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to attack Israel. But the Lord thundered with a great voice that day against the Philistines and threw them into confusion, and they were defeated before Israel.

11 S aliendo de Mizpa los hombres de Israel, persiguieron a los filisteos, hiriéndolos hasta más allá de Bet-car. Derrota de los filisteos

And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines and smote them as far as below Beth-car.

12 E ntonces Samuel tomó una piedra y la colocó entre Mizpa y Sen, y la llamó Eben-ezer, diciendo: Hasta aquí nos ha ayudado el Señor.

Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and he called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Heretofore the Lord has helped us.

13 L os filisteos fueron sometidos y no volvieron más dentro de los límites de Israel. Y la mano del Señor estuvo contra los filisteos todos los días de Samuel.

So the Philistines were subdued and came no more into Israelite territory. And the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

14 L as ciudades que los filisteos habían tomado de Israel fueron restituidas a Israel, desde Ecrón hasta Gat, e Israel libró su territorio de la mano de los filisteos. Y hubo paz entre Israel y los amorreos.

The cities the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron to Gath, and Israel rescued territory from the Philistines. There was peace also between Israel and the Amorites.

15 S amuel juzgó a Israel todos los días de su vida.

And Samuel judged Israel all his days.

16 C ada año acostumbraba hacer un recorrido por Betel, Gilgal y Mizpa, y juzgaba a Israel en todos estos lugares.

And he went from year to year on a circuit to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and was judge for Israel in all those places.

17 D espués volvía a Ramá, pues allí estaba su casa, y allí juzgaba a Israel; y edificó allí un altar al Señor.

Then he would return to Ramah, for his home was there; there he judged Israel, and there he built an altar to the Lord.
