1 D espués de esto, Jesús andaba por Galilea, pues no quería andar por Judea porque los judíos procuraban matarle.

After this, Jesus went from place to place in Galilee, for He would not travel in Judea because the Jews were seeking to kill Him.

2 Y la fiesta de los judíos, la de los Tabernáculos, estaba cerca.

Now the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was drawing near.

3 P or eso sus hermanos le dijeron: Sal de aquí, y vete a Judea para que también tus discípulos vean las obras que tú haces.

So His brothers said to Him, Leave here and go into Judea, so that Your disciples may also see the works that You do.

4 P orque nadie hace nada en secreto cuando procura ser conocido en público. Si haces estas cosas, muéstrate al mundo.

For no one does anything in secret when he wishes to be conspicuous and secure publicity. If You do these things, show Yourself openly and make Yourself known to the world!

5 P orque ni aun sus hermanos creían en El.

For His brothers did not believe in or adhere to or trust in or rely on Him either.

6 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: Mi tiempo aún no ha llegado, pero vuestro tiempo es siempre oportuno.

Whereupon Jesus said to them, My time (opportunity) has not come yet; but any time is suitable for you and your opportunity is ready any time.

7 E l mundo no puede odiaros a vosotros, pero a mí me odia, porque yo doy testimonio de él, que sus acciones son malas.

The world cannot hate you, but it does hate Me because I denounce it for its wicked works and reveal that its doings are evil.

8 S ubid vosotros a la fiesta; yo no subo a esta fiesta porque aún mi tiempo no se ha cumplido.

Go to the Feast yourselves. I am not going up to the Festival, because My time is not ripe.

9 Y habiéndoles dicho esto, se quedó en Galilea. Jesús sube a la fiesta en secreto

Having said these things to them, He stayed behind in Galilee.

10 P ero cuando sus hermanos subieron a la fiesta, entonces El también subió; no abiertamente, sino en secreto.

But afterward, when His brothers had gone up to the Feast, He went up also, not publicly, but by Himself quietly and as if He did not wish to be observed.

11 P or eso los judíos le buscaban en la fiesta y decían: ¿Dónde está ése?

Therefore the Jews kept looking for Him at the Feast and asking, Where can He be?

12 Y había mucha murmuración entre la gente acerca de El. Unos decían: El es bueno. Otros decían: No, al contrario, extravía a la gente.

And there was among the mass of the people much whispered discussion and hot disputing about Him. Some were saying, He is good! Others said, No, He misleads and deceives the people!

13 S in embargo, nadie hablaba abiertamente de El por miedo a los judíos. Jesús enseña durante la fiesta

But no one dared speak out boldly about Him for fear of the Jews.

14 P ero ya a mitad de la fiesta, Jesús subió al templo y se puso a enseñar.

When the Feast was already half over, Jesus went up into the temple '> court] and began to teach.

15 E ntonces los judíos se maravillaban, diciendo: ¿Cómo puede éste saber de letras sin haber estudiado?

The Jews were astonished. They said, How is it that this Man has learning when He has never studied?

16 J esús entonces les respondió y dijo: Mi enseñanza no es mía, sino del que me envió.

Jesus answered them by saying, My teaching is not My own, but His Who sent Me.

17 S i alguien quiere hacer su voluntad, sabrá si mi enseñanza es de Dios o si hablo de mí mismo.

If any man desires to do His will (God’s pleasure), he will know (have the needed illumination to recognize, and can tell for himself) whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking from Myself and of My own accord and on My own authority.

18 E l que habla de sí mismo busca su propia gloria; pero el que busca la gloria del que le envió, éste es verdadero y no hay injusticia en El.

He who speaks on his own authority seeks to win honor for himself. But He Who seeks the glory and is eager for the honor of Him Who sent Him, He is true; and there is no unrighteousness or falsehood or deception in Him.

19 ¿ No os dio Moisés la ley, y sin embargo ninguno de vosotros la cumple ? ¿Por qué procuráis matarme ?

Did not Moses give you the Law? And yet not one of you keeps the Law. why do you seek to kill Me ?

20 L a multitud contestó: ¡Tienes un demonio! ¿Quién procura matarte?

The crowd answered Him, You are possessed by a demon! Who seeks to kill You?

21 R espondió Jesús y les dijo: Una sola obra hice y todos os admiráis.

Jesus answered them, I did one work, and you all are astounded.

22 P or eso Moisés os ha dado la circuncisión (no porque sea de Moisés, sino de los padres ), y en el día de reposo circuncidáis al hombre.

Now Moses established circumcision among you—though it did not originate with Moses but with the previous patriarchs—and you circumcise a person on the Sabbath day.

23 Y si para no violar la ley de Moisés un hombre recibe la circuncisión en el día de reposo, ¿ por qué estáis enojados conmigo porque sané por completo a un hombre en el día de reposo?

If, to avoid breaking the Law of Moses, a person undergoes circumcision on the Sabbath day, have you any cause to be angry with (indignant with, bitter against) Me for making a man’s whole body well on the Sabbath?

24 N o juzguéis por la apariencia, sino juzgad con juicio justo.

Be honest in your judgment and do not decide at a glance (superficially and by appearances); but judge fairly and righteously.

25 E ntonces algunos de Jerusalén decían: ¿No es éste al que procuran matar?

Then some of the Jerusalem people said, Is not this the Man they seek to kill?

26 Y ved, habla en público y no le dicen nada. ¿No será que en verdad los gobernantes reconocen que este es el Cristo ?

And here He is speaking openly, and they say nothing to Him! Can it be possible that the rulers have discovered and know that this is truly the Christ?

27 S in embargo, nosotros sabemos de dónde es éste; pero cuando venga el Cristo, nadie sabrá de dónde es.

No, we know where this Man comes from; when the Christ arrives, no one is to know from what place He comes.

28 J esús entonces, mientras enseñaba en el templo, exclamó en alta voz, diciendo: Vosotros me conocéis y sabéis de dónde soy. Yo no he venido por mi propia cuenta, pero el que me envió es verdadero, a quien vosotros no conocéis.

Whereupon Jesus called out as He taught in the temple '> porches], Do you know Me, and do you know where I am from? I have not come on My own authority and of My own accord and as self-appointed, but the One Who sent Me is true (real, genuine, steadfast); and Him you do not know!

29 Y o le conozco, porque procedo de El, y El me envió.

I know Him because I come from His presence, and it was He Who sent Me.

30 P rocuraban, pues, prenderle; pero nadie le echó mano porque todavía no había llegado su hora.

Therefore they were eager to arrest Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, for His hour (time) had not yet come.

31 P ero muchos de la multitud creyeron en El, y decían: Cuando el Cristo venga, ¿acaso hará más señales que las que éste ha hecho?

And besides, many of the multitude believed in Him. And they kept saying, When the Christ comes, will He do more miracles and produce more proofs and signs than what this Man has done?

32 L os fariseos oyeron a la multitud murmurando estas cosas acerca de El, y los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos enviaron alguaciles para que le prendieran.

The Pharisees learned how the people were saying these things about Him under their breath; and the chief priests and Pharisees sent attendants (guards) to arrest Him.

33 E ntonces Jesús dijo: Por un poco más de tiempo estoy con vosotros; después voy al que me envió.

Therefore Jesus said, For a little while I am with you, and then I go back to Him Who sent Me.

34 M e buscaréis y no me hallaréis; y donde yo esté, vosotros no podéis ir.

You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; where I am, you cannot come.

35 D ecían entonces los judíos entre sí: ¿Adónde piensa irse éste que no le hallemos? ¿Será acaso que quiere irse a la dispersión entre los griegos y enseñar a los griegos?

Then the Jews said among themselves, Where does this Man intend to go that we shall not find Him? Will He go to the Jews who are scattered in the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

36 ¿ Qué quiere decir esto que ha dicho: “Me buscaréis y no me hallaréis; y donde yo esté, vosotros no podéis ir ”? La gran invitación

What does this statement of His mean, You will look for Me and not be able to find Me, and, Where I am, you cannot come?

37 Y en el último día, el gran día de la fiesta, Jesús puesto en pie, exclamó en alta voz, diciendo: Si alguno tiene sed, que venga a mí y beba.

Now on the final and most important day of the Feast, Jesus stood, and He cried in a loud voice, If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink!

38 E l que cree en mí, como ha dicho la Escritura: “De lo más profundo de su ser brotarán ríos de agua viva.”

He who believes in Me as the Scripture has said, From his innermost being shall flow springs and rivers of living water.

39 P ero El decía esto del Espíritu, que los que habían creído en El habían de recibir; porque el Espíritu no había sido dado todavía, pues Jesús aún no había sido glorificado.

But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith) in Him were afterward to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor).

40 E ntonces algunos de la multitud, cuando oyeron estas palabras, decían: Verdaderamente este es el Profeta.

Listening to those words, some of the multitude said, This is certainly and beyond doubt the Prophet!

41 O tros decían: Este es el Cristo. Pero otros decían: ¿Acaso el Cristo ha de venir de Galilea ?

Others said, This is the Christ (the Messiah, Anointed One)! But some said, What? Does the Christ come out of Galilee?

42 ¿ No ha dicho la Escritura que el Cristo viene de la descendencia de David, y de Belén, la aldea de donde era David?

Does not the Scripture tell us that the Christ will come from the offspring of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?

43 A sí que se suscitó una división entre la multitud por causa de El.

So there arose a division and dissension among the people concerning Him.

44 Y algunos de ellos querían prenderle, pero nadie le echó mano. Los alguaciles confundidos

Some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.

45 E ntonces los alguaciles vinieron a los principales sacerdotes y fariseos, y éstos les dijeron: ¿Por qué no le trajisteis?

Meanwhile the attendants (guards) had gone back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, Why have you not brought Him here with you?

46 L os alguaciles respondieron: ¡Jamás hombre alguno ha hablado como este hombre habla!

The attendants replied, Never has a man talked as this Man talks!

47 E ntonces los fariseos les contestaron: ¿Es que también vosotros os habéis dejado engañar ?

The Pharisees said to them, Are you also deluded and led astray?

48 ¿ Acaso ha creído en El alguno de los gobernantes, o de los fariseos?

Has any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in Him?

49 P ero esta multitud que no conoce de la ley, maldita es.

As for this multitude (rabble) that does not know the Law, they are contemptible and doomed and accursed!

50 N icodemo, el que había venido a Jesús antes, y que era uno de ellos, les dijo:

Then Nicodemus, who came to Jesus before at night and was one of them, asked,

51 ¿ Acaso juzga nuestra ley a un hombre a menos que le oiga primero y sepa lo que hace?

Does our Law convict a man without giving him a hearing and finding out what he has done?

52 R espondieron y le dijeron: ¿Es que tú también eres de Galilea ? Investiga, y verás que ningún profeta surge de Galilea.

They answered him, Are you too from Galilee? Search, and you will see that no prophet comes (will rise to prominence) from Galilee.

53 Y cada uno se fue a su casa.

And they went, each to his own house.
