1 A sí me dijo Jehová: «Ve y cómprate un cinto de lino. Cíñelo a tu cintura, pero no lo metas en agua.»

Thus the Lord said to me: Go and buy yourself a linen girdle and put it on your loins, but do not put it in water.

2 C ompré el cinto, conforme a la palabra de Jehová, y lo ceñí a mi cintura.

So I bought a girdle or waistcloth, according to the word of the Lord, and put it on my loins.

3 V ino a mí por segunda vez palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

And the word of the Lord came to me the second time, saying,

4 « Toma el cinto que compraste, el cual ciñe tu cintura, levántate, ve al Éufrates y escóndelo allí, en la hendidura de una peña.»

Take the girdle which you have bought, which is on your loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.

5 F ui, pues, al Éufrates y lo escondí, como Jehová me había mandado.

So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the Lord commanded me.

6 D espués de muchos días me dijo Jehová: «Levántate, ve al Éufrates y toma el cinto que te mandé esconder allí.»

And after many days the Lord said to me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the girdle which I commanded you to hide there.

7 E ntonces fui al Éufrates, cavé y tomé el cinto del lugar donde lo había escondido, pero el cinto se había podrido y ya no servía para nada.

Then I went to the Euphrates and dug and took the girdle or waistcloth from the place where I had hidden it. And behold, the girdle was decayed and spoiled; it was good for nothing.

8 Y vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

9 « Así ha dicho Jehová: Así haré podrir la soberbia de Judá y la mucha soberbia de Jerusalén.

Thus says the Lord: After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 E ste pueblo malo, que no quiere escuchar mis palabras, que anda en las imaginaciones de su corazón y que va en pos de dioses ajenos para servirlos y para postrarse ante ellos, vendrá a ser como este cinto, que ya no sirve para nada.

These evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who walk in the stubbornness of their hearts and have gone after other gods to serve them and to worship them, shall even be like this girdle or waistcloth, which is profitable for nothing.

11 P orque como el cinto se ajusta a la cintura del hombre, así hice que se ajustara a mí toda la casa de Israel y toda la casa de Judá, dice Jehová, para que fueran mi pueblo, y para renombre, para alabanza y para honra; pero no escucharon. La señal de las tinajas llenas

For as the girdle clings to the loins of a man, so I caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me, says the Lord, that they might be for Me a people, a name, a praise, and a glory; but they would not listen or obey.

12 » Les dirás, pues, esta palabra: “Así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: Toda tinaja se llenará de vino.” Y ellos te dirán: “¿No sabemos que toda tinaja se llenará de vino?”

Therefore you shall speak to them this word: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Every bottle and jar should be filled with wine. will say to you, Do we not certainly know that every bottle and jar should be filled with wine?

13 E ntonces les dirás: Así ha dicho Jehová: “Yo lleno de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, a los reyes de la estirpe de David que se sientan sobre su trono, a los sacerdotes y profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén.

Then say to them, Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will fill with drunkenness all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings who sit upon David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

14 Y los quebrantaré, a los unos contra los otros, juntamente a los padres y a los hijos, dice Jehová. No perdonaré, ni tendré piedad ni misericordia, sino que los destruiré.”» Judá será llevada en cautiverio

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, says the Lord. I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

15 O íd y prestad atención: no os envanezcáis, pues Jehová ha hablado.

Hear and give ear, do not be proud, for the Lord has spoken.

16 D ad gloria a Jehová, vuestro Dios, antes que haga venir tinieblas, antes que vuestros pies tropiecen en montes de oscuridad, y que, esperando vosotros la luz, él os la vuelva en sombra de muerte y tinieblas.

Give glory to the Lord your God before He brings darkness and before your feet stumble upon the dark and twilit mountains, and, while you are looking for light, He turns it into the shadow of death and makes it thick darkness.

17 M as si no escucháis esto, en secreto llorará mi alma a causa de vuestra soberbia; y llorando amargamente, se desharán mis ojos en lágrimas, porque el rebaño de Jehová fue hecho cautivo.

But if you will not hear and obey, I will weep in secret for your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly and run down with tears, because the Lord’s flock has been taken captive.

18 « Di al rey y a la reina: “Humillaos, sentaos en tierra, porque la corona de vuestra gloria ha caído de vuestras cabezas.”

Say to the king and the queen mother, Humble yourselves and take a lowly seat, for down from your head has come your beautiful crown (the crown of your glory).

19 L as ciudades del Neguev fueron cerradas y no hubo quien las abriera; toda Judá fue deportada, llevada en cautiverio fue toda ella.

The cities of the South (the Negeb) have been shut up, and there is no one to open them; all Judah has been carried away captive, it has been wholly taken captive and into exile.

20 A lzad vuestros ojos y ved a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está el rebaño que te fue dado, tu hermosa grey?

Lift up your eyes and behold those who come from the north. Where is the flock that was given to you, your beautiful flock?

21 » ¿Qué dirás cuando él ponga como cabeza sobre ti a aquellos a quienes tú enseñaste a ser tus amigos? ¿No te darán dolores como los de una mujer que está de parto?

What will you say when He sets over you as head those whom you yourselves have taught to be lovers (allies) with you ? Will not pangs take hold of you like that of a woman in travail?

22 Q uizá digas en tu corazón: “¿Por qué me ha sobrevenido esto?” ¡Por la enormidad de tu maldad fueron alzadas tus faldas, fueron desnudados tus calcañares!

And if you say in your heart, Why have these things come upon me?—, Because of the greatness of your iniquity has your long robe been pulled aside and have you suffered violence.

23 ¿ Podrá cambiar el etíope su piel y el leopardo sus manchas? Así también, ¿podréis vosotros hacer el bien, estando habituados a hacer lo malo?

Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then also can you do good who are accustomed and taught to do evil.

24 P or tanto, yo los esparciré al viento del desierto, como tamo que pasa.

Therefore I will scatter you like chaff driven away by the wind from the desert.

25 É sta es tu suerte, la porción que yo he medido para ti, dice Jehová, porque te olvidaste de mí y confiaste en la mentira.

This is your lot, the portion measured to you from Me, says the Lord, because you have forgotten Me and trusted in falsehood.

26 Y o, pues, te alzaré también las faldas hasta el rostro, y se verá tu vergüenza:

Therefore I Myself will, throwing your skirts up over your face, that your shame may be exposed.

27 t us adulterios, tus relinchos, la maldad de tu fornicación sobre los collados. En el campo he visto tus abominaciones. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! ¿No serás al fin limpia? ¿Cuánto tardarás en purificarte?»

I have seen your detestable acts, even your adulteries and your lustful neighings, and the lewdness of your harlotry on the hills in the field. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! For how long a time yet will you not be made clean?
