1 » Ahora, pues, Israel, oye los estatutos y decretos que yo os enseño, para que los ejecutéis y viváis, y entréis y poseáis la tierra que Jehová, el Dios de vuestros padres, os da.

Now listen and give heed, O Israel, to the statutes and ordinances which I teach you, and do them, that you may live and go in and possess the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, gives you.

2 N o añadiréis a la palabra que yo os mando ni disminuiréis de ella, para que guardéis los mandamientos de Jehová, vuestro Dios, que yo os ordeno.

You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

3 V uestros ojos vieron lo que hizo Jehová con motivo de Baal-peor: a todo hombre que siguió a Baal-peor lo exterminó Jehová, tu Dios, de en medio de ti.

Your eyes still see what the Lord did because of Baal-peor; for all the men who followed the Baal of Peor the Lord your God has destroyed from among you,

4 P ero vosotros, que seguisteis a Jehová, vuestro Dios, todos estáis vivos hoy.

But you who clung fast to the Lord your God are alive, every one of you, this day.

5 M irad, yo os he enseñado estatutos y decretos, como Jehová, mi Dios, me mandó, para que hagáis así en medio de la tierra en la que vais a entrar para tomar posesión de ella.

Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances as the Lord my God commanded me, that you should do them in the land which you are entering to possess.

6 G uardadlos, pues, y ponedlos por obra, porque ellos son vuestra sabiduría y vuestra inteligencia ante los ojos de los pueblos, los cuales oirán todos estos estatutos, y dirán: “Ciertamente pueblo sabio y entendido, nación grande es ésta.”

So keep them and do them, for that is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

7 P orque ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga dioses tan cercanos a ellos como lo está Jehová, nuestro Dios, en todo cuanto le pedimos?

For what great nation is there who has a god so near to them as the Lord our God is to us in all things for which we call upon Him?

8 Y ¿qué nación grande hay que tenga estatutos y juicios justos como es toda esta Ley que yo pongo hoy delante de vosotros?

And what large and important nation has statutes and ordinances so upright and just as all this law which I set before you today?

9 P or tanto, guárdate y guarda tu alma con diligencia, para que no te olvides de las cosas que tus ojos han visto ni se aparten de tu corazón todos los días de tu vida; antes bien, las enseñarás a tus hijos y a los hijos de tus hijos. La experiencia de Israel en Horeb

Only take heed, and guard your life diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Teach them to your children and your children’s children—

10 » El día que estuviste delante de Jehová, tu Dios, en Horeb, cuando Jehová me dijo: “Reúneme el pueblo, para que yo les haga oír mis palabras, las cuales aprenderán para temerme todos los días que vivan sobre la tierra, y las enseñarán a sus hijos”,

Especially how on the day that you stood before the Lord your God in Horeb, the Lord said to me, Gather the people together to Me and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days they live upon the earth and that they may teach their children.

11 o s acercasteis y os pusisteis al pie del monte, mientras el monte ardía envuelto en un fuego que llegaba hasta el mismo cielo, entre tinieblas, nube y oscuridad.

And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain, and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, cloud, and thick gloom.

12 E ntonces Jehová habló con vosotros de en medio del fuego; oísteis la voz de sus palabras, pero a excepción de oír la voz, ninguna figura visteis.

And the Lord spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the voice of the words, but saw no form; there was only a voice.

13 Y él os anunció su pacto, el cual os mandó poner por obra: los diez mandamientos, y los escribió en dos tablas de piedra.

And He declared to you His covenant, which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments, and He wrote them on two tables of stone.

14 A mí también me mandó Jehová en aquel tiempo que os enseñara los estatutos y juicios, para que los pusierais por obra en la tierra a la que vais a pasar para tomar posesión de ella. Advertencia contra la idolatría

And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you the statutes and precepts, that you might do them in the land which you are going over to possess.

15 » Guardad, pues, mucho vuestras almas, pues ninguna figura visteis el día que Jehová habló con vosotros de en medio del fuego,

Therefore take good heed to yourselves, since you saw no form of Him on the day the Lord spoke to you on Horeb out of the midst of the fire,

16 p ara que no os corrompáis y hagáis para vosotros escultura, imagen de figura alguna, efigie de hombre o de mujer,

Beware lest you become corrupt by making for yourselves a graven image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

17 f igura de algún animal que esté en la tierra, figura de algún ave alada que vuele por el aire,

The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, or of any winged fowl that flies in the air,

18 f igura de algún reptil que se arrastre sobre la tierra, figura de algún pez que haya en el agua debajo de la tierra.

The likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, or of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth.

19 N o sea que alces tus ojos al cielo, y viendo el sol, la luna, las estrellas y todo el ejército del cielo, te dejes seducir, te inclines ante ellos y los sirvas, porque Jehová, tu Dios, los ha concedido a todos los pueblos debajo de todos los cielos.

And beware lest you lift up your eyes to the heavens, and when you see the sun, moon, and stars, even all the host of the heavens, you be drawn away and worship them and serve them, things which the Lord your God has allotted to all nations under the whole heaven.

20 P ero a vosotros Jehová os tomó, y os ha sacado del horno de hierro, de Egipto, para que seáis el pueblo de su heredad como en este día.

But the Lord has taken you and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to Him a people of His own possession, as you are this day.

21 » Pero Jehová se enojó contra mí por causa de vosotros, y juró que yo no pasaría el Jordán ni entraría en la buena tierra que Jehová, tu Dios, te da por heredad.

Furthermore the Lord was angry with me because of you, and He swore that I should not go over the Jordan and that I should not enter the good land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance.

22 A sí que yo voy a morir en esta tierra, y no pasaré el Jordán; pero vosotros pasaréis y poseeréis aquella buena tierra.

But I must die in this land; I must not cross the Jordan; but you shall go over and possess that good land.

23 G uardaos, no os olvidéis del pacto que Jehová, vuestro Dios, estableció con vosotros, y no os hagáis escultura o imagen de ninguna cosa que Jehová, tu Dios, te ha prohibido.

Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of anything which the Lord your God has forbidden you.

24 P orque Jehová, tu Dios, es fuego consumidor, Dios celoso.

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

25 » Cuando hayáis engendrado hijos y nietos, y hayáis envejecido en la tierra, si os corrompéis y hacéis alguna escultura o imagen de cualquier cosa, y hacéis lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, vuestro Dios, para enojarlo,

When children shall be born to you, and children’s children, and you have grown old in the land, if you corrupt yourselves by making a graven image in the form of anything, and do evil in the sight of the Lord your God, provoking Him to anger,

26 y o pongo hoy por testigos al cielo y a la tierra que pronto desapareceréis totalmente de la tierra que vais a tomar en posesión al pasar el Jordán. No estaréis en ella largos días sin que seáis destruidos.

I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day that you shall soon utterly perish from the land which you are going over the Jordan to possess. You will not live long upon it but will be utterly destroyed.

27 J ehová os esparcirá entre los pueblos, y quedaréis sólo unos pocos entre las naciones a las cuales os llevará Jehová.

And the Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left few in number among the nations to which the Lord will drive you.

28 A llí serviréis a dioses hechos por manos de hombres, de madera y piedra, que no ven ni oyen ni comen ni huelen.

There you will serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

29 P ero si desde allí buscas a Jehová, tu Dios, lo hallarás, si lo buscas de todo tu corazón y de toda tu alma.

But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) the Lord your God, you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and soul and life.

30 C uando estés en angustia y te alcancen todas estas cosas, si en los últimos días te vuelves a Jehová, tu Dios, y oyes su voz,

When you are in tribulation and all these things come upon you, in the latter days you will turn to the Lord your God and be obedient to His voice.

31 p orque Dios misericordioso es Jehová, tu Dios: No te dejará ni te destruirá ni se olvidará del pacto que juró a tus padres.

For the Lord your God is a merciful God; He will not fail you or destroy you or forget the covenant of your fathers, which He swore to them.

32 » Porque pregunta ahora si en los tiempos pasados que han sido antes de ti, desde el día en que creó Dios al hombre sobre la tierra, si desde un extremo del cielo al otro se ha hecho cosa semejante a esta gran cosa, o se haya oído otra como ella.

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from one end of the heavens to the other, whether such a great thing as this has ever occurred or been heard of anywhere.

33 ¿ Ha oído pueblo alguno la voz de Dios hablando de en medio del fuego, como tú la has oído, sin perecer?

Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you heard, and live?

34 ¿ O ha intentado Dios venir a tomar para sí una nación de en medio de otra nación, con pruebas, con señales, con milagros y con guerra, y mano poderosa y brazo extendido, y hechos aterradores, como todo lo que hizo con vosotros Jehová, vuestro Dios, en Egipto ante tus ojos?

Or has God ever tried to go and take for Himself a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

35 A ti te fue mostrado, para que supieras que Jehová es Dios y que no hay otro fuera de él.

To you it was shown, that you might realize and have personal knowledge that the Lord is God; there is no other besides Him.

36 D esde los cielos te hizo oír su voz para enseñarte, y sobre la tierra te mostró su gran fuego, y has oído sus palabras de en medio del fuego.

Out of heaven He made you hear His voice, that He might correct, discipline, and admonish you; and on earth He made you see His great fire, and you heard His words out of the midst of the fire.

37 P or cuanto él amó a tus padres, escogió a su descendencia después de ellos y te sacó de Egipto con su presencia y con su gran poder,

And because He loved your fathers, He chose their descendants after them, and brought you out from Egypt with His own Presence, by His mighty power,

38 p ara echar de tu presencia naciones grandes y más fuertes que tú, y para introducirte y darte su tierra por heredad, como sucede hoy.

Driving out nations from before you, greater and mightier than yourselves, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is this day;

39 » Aprende pues, hoy, y reflexiona en tu corazón que Jehová es Dios arriba en el cielo y abajo en la tierra; no hay otro.

Know, recognize, and understand therefore this day and turn your heart to it that the Lord is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath; there is no other.

40 G uarda sus estatutos y sus mandamientos, los cuales yo te mando hoy, para que te vaya bien a ti y a tus hijos después de ti, y prolongues tus días sobre la tierra que Jehová, tu Dios, te da para siempre.» Las ciudades de refugio al oriente del Jordán

Therefore you shall keep His statutes and His commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you and your children after you and that you may prolong your days in the land which the Lord your God gives you forever.

41 E ntonces apartó Moisés tres ciudades a este lado del Jordán, hacia el nacimiento del sol,

Then Moses set apart three cities beyond the Jordan to the east,

42 p ara que huyera allí el homicida que matara a su prójimo sin intención, sin haber tenido enemistad con él nunca antes y, huyendo a una de esas ciudades, salvara su vida.

That the manslayer might flee there, who slew his neighbor unintentionally and had not previously been at enmity with him, that fleeing to one of these cities he might save his life:

43 E stas ciudades fueron: Beser, en el desierto, en tierra de la llanura, para los rubenitas; Ramot, en Galaad, para los gaditas, y Golán, en Basán, para los de Manasés. Moisés recapitula la promulgación de la Ley

Bezer in the wilderness on the tableland, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

44 É sta, pues, es la ley que Moisés puso delante de los hijos de Israel.

This is the law which Moses set before the Israelites.

45 É stos son los testimonios, los estatutos y los decretos que dictó Moisés a los hijos de Israel cuando salieron de Egipto,

These are the testimonies and the laws and the precepts which Moses spoke to the Israelites when they came out of Egypt,

46 a este lado del Jordán, en el valle delante de Bet-peor, en la tierra de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón, al cual derrotó Moisés con los hijos de Israel, cuando salieron de Egipto.

Beyond the Jordan in the valley opposite Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon, whom Moses and the Israelites smote when they came out of Egypt.

47 Y poseyeron su tierra, y la tierra de Og, rey de Basán —dos reyes de los amorreos que estaban de este lado del Jordán, al oriente—,

And they took possession of his land and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who lived beyond the Jordan to the east,

48 d esde Aroer, que está junto a la ribera del arroyo Arnón, hasta el monte Sión, que es Hermón,

From Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, as far as Mount Sirion (that is, Hermon),

49 c on todo el Arabá, de este lado del Jordán, al oriente, hasta el Mar del Arabá, al pie de las laderas del Pisga.

And all the Arabah (lowlands) beyond the Jordan eastward, as far as the Sea of the Arabah, under the slopes and springs of Pisgah.
