1 R espondiendo Jesús, les volvió a hablar en parábolas, diciendo:

Jesus answered and spoke again in parables to them, saying,

2 « El reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que hizo una fiesta de bodas a su hijo.

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

3 E nvió a sus siervos a llamar a los invitados a la boda, pero estos no quisieron asistir.

and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.

4 V olvió a enviar otros siervos con este encargo: “Decid a los invitados que ya he preparado mi comida. He hecho matar mis toros y mis animales engordados, y todo está dispuesto; venid a la boda.”

Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast!”’

5 P ero ellos, sin hacer caso, se fueron: uno a su labranza, otro a sus negocios;

But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,

6 y otros, tomando a los siervos, los golpearon y los mataron.

and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

7 A l oírlo el rey, se enojó y, enviando sus ejércitos, mató a aquellos homicidas y quemó su ciudad.

When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8 E ntonces dijo a sus siervos: “La boda a la verdad está preparada, pero los que fueron invitados no eran dignos.

“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.

9 I d, pues, a las salidas de los caminos y llamad a la boda a cuantos halléis.”

Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.’

10 E ntonces salieron los siervos por los caminos y reunieron a todos los que hallaron, tanto malos como buenos, y la boda se llenó de invitados.

Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

11 » Cuando entró el rey para ver a los invitados, vio allí a un hombre que no estaba vestido de bodas,

But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing,

12 y le dijo: “Amigo, ¿cómo entraste aquí sin estar vestido de bodas?” Pero él guardó silencio.

and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless.

13 E ntonces el rey dijo a los que servían: “Atadlo de pies y manos y echadlo a las tinieblas de afuera; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes”,

Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’

14 p ues muchos son llamados, pero pocos escogidos.» La cuestión del tributo

For many are called, but few chosen.”

15 E ntonces se fueron los fariseos y consultaron cómo sorprenderlo en alguna palabra.

Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.

16 Y le enviaron sus discípulos junto con los herodianos, diciendo: —Maestro, sabemos que eres amante de la verdad y que enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios, y no te cuidas de nadie, porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres.

They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you aren’t partial to anyone.

17 D inos, pues, qué te parece: ¿Está permitido dar tributo a César, o no?

Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18 P ero Jesús, conociendo la malicia de ellos, les dijo: —¿Por qué me tentáis, hipócritas?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?

19 M ostradme la moneda del tributo. Ellos le presentaron un denario.

Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius.

20 E ntonces les preguntó: —¿De quién es esta imagen y la inscripción?

He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”

21 L e dijeron: —De César. Y les dijo: —Dad, pues, a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.

They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

22 A l oír esto se maravillaron, y dejándolo, se fueron. La pregunta sobre la resurrección

When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

23 A quel día se acercaron a él los saduceos, que dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron,

On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,

24 d iciendo: —Maestro, Moisés dijo: “Si alguien muere sin hijos, su hermano se casará con su mujer y levantará descendencia a su hermano.”

saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.’

25 H ubo, pues, entre nosotros siete hermanos: el primero se casó y, como murió sin dejar descendencia, dejó su mujer a su hermano.

Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.

26 D e la misma manera también el segundo, y el tercero, hasta el séptimo.

In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

27 D espués de todos murió también la mujer.

After them all, the woman died.

28 E n la resurrección, pues, ¿de cuál de los siete será ella mujer, ya que todos la tuvieron?

In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”

29 E ntonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —Erráis, ignorando las Escrituras y el poder de Dios,

But Jesus answered them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

30 p ues en la resurrección ni se casarán ni se darán en casamiento, sino serán como los ángeles de Dios en el cielo.

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven.

31 P ero respecto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿no habéis leído lo que os fue dicho por Dios, cuando afirmó:

But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

32 “ Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob”? Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos.

‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

33 A l oír esto, la gente se admiraba de su doctrina. El gran mandamiento

When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

34 E ntonces los fariseos, cuando oyeron que había hecho callar a los saduceos, se reunieron.

But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.

35 Y uno de ellos, intérprete de la Ley, preguntó para tentarlo, diciendo:

One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.

36 — Maestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento en la Ley?

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

37 J esús le dijo: —“Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu mente.”

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

38 É ste es el primero y grande mandamiento.

This is the first and great commandment.

39 Y el segundo es semejante: “Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.”

A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

40 D e estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la Ley y los Profetas. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

41 E stando reunidos los fariseos, Jesús les preguntó,

Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

42 d iciendo: —¿Qué pensáis del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo? Le dijeron: —De David.

saying, “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “Of David.”

43 É l les dijo: —¿Cómo, pues, David, en el Espíritu lo llama Señor, diciendo:

He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 » “Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: siéntate a mi derecha, hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies”?

‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?’

45 » Pues si David lo llama Señor, ¿cómo es su hijo?

“If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”

46 Y nadie le podía responder palabra; ni se atrevió ninguno a preguntarle más desde aquel día.

No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
