1 J esús volvió a hablarles en parábolas, y les dijo:

Jesus answered and spoke again in parables to them, saying,

2 « El reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que hizo una fiesta de bodas para su hijo.

“The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

3 Y envió el rey a sus siervos para convocar a los invitados a la fiesta de bodas, pero éstos no quisieron asistir.

and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come.

4 V olvió el rey a enviar otros siervos, y les dijo: “Díganles a los invitados que ya he preparado el banquete; que he matado mis toros y animales engordados, y que todo está dispuesto. Que vengan a la fiesta.”

Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast!”’

5 P ero los invitados no hicieron caso. Uno de ellos se fue a su labranza, otro a sus negocios,

But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise,

6 y otros más agarraron a los siervos, los maltrataron y los mataron.

and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

7 C uando el rey supo esto, se enojó; así que envió a sus ejércitos, destruyó a aquellos homicidas, y quemó su ciudad.

When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8 E ntonces dijo a sus siervos: “La fiesta de bodas ya está preparada, pero los que fueron invitados no eran dignos de asistir.

“Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy.

9 P or tanto, vayan a las encrucijadas de los caminos, e inviten a la fiesta de bodas a todos los que encuentren.”

Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.’

10 L os siervos salieron por los caminos y juntaron a todos los que encontraron, lo mismo malos que buenos, y la fiesta de bodas se llenó de invitados.

Those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

11 » Cuando el rey entró para ver a los invitados y se encontró con uno que no estaba vestido para la boda,

But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing,

12 l e dijo: “Amigo, ¿cómo fue que entraste aquí, sin estar vestido para la boda?” Y aquél enmudeció.

and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless.

13 E ntonces el rey dijo a los que servían: “Aten a éste de pies y manos, y échenlo de aquí, a las tinieblas de afuera. ¡Allí habrá llanto y rechinar de dientes!”

Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’

14 P orque son muchos los llamados, pero pocos los escogidos.» La cuestión del tributo

For many are called, but few chosen.”

15 E ntonces los fariseos se fueron para pensar en cómo atrapar a Jesús en sus propias palabras.

Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.

16 E nviaron a sus discípulos, junto con los herodianos, a decirle: «Maestro, sabemos que eres amante de la verdad, y que enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios; sabemos también que no permites que nadie influya en ti ni te dejas llevar por las apariencias humanas.

They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you aren’t partial to anyone.

17 P or tanto, dinos tu parecer. ¿Es lícito pagar tributo al César, o no?»

Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”

18 P ero Jesús, que conocía la malicia de ellos, les dijo: «¡Hipócritas! ¿Por qué me tienden trampas?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?

19 M uéstrenme la moneda del tributo.» Y ellos le mostraron un denario.

Show me the tax money.” They brought to him a denarius.

20 E ntonces él les preguntó: «¿De quién es esta imagen, y esta inscripción?»

He asked them, “Whose is this image and inscription?”

21 L e respondieron: «Del César.» Y él les dijo: «Pues bien, den al César lo que es del César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios.»

They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

22 A l oír esto, se quedaron asombrados y se alejaron de él. La pregunta sobre la resurrección

When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.

23 E se mismo día se le acercaron los saduceos, que dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron:

On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him,

24 « Maestro, Moisés dijo que si alguno muere sin tener hijos, su hermano debe casarse con la viuda, para que su hermano tenga descendencia.

saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.’

25 A hora bien, entre nosotros se dio el caso de siete hermanos. El primero de ellos se casó y, como murió sin dejar descendencia, dejó su mujer al hermano que le seguía.

Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother.

26 L o mismo sucedió con el segundo, y el tercero, hasta el séptimo.

In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

27 A l final, todos murieron, y también la mujer.

After them all, the woman died.

28 A sí que en la resurrección, ¿esposa de cuál de los siete será esta mujer, puesto que todos estuvieron casados con ella?»

In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her.”

29 J esús les respondió: «El error de ustedes es que no conocen las Escrituras ni el poder de Dios;

But Jesus answered them, “You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.

30 p orque en la resurrección, ni se casarán ni se darán en casamiento, sino que serán como los ángeles de Dios en el cielo.

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven.

31 P ero en cuanto a la resurrección de los muertos, ¿acaso no han leído ustedes lo que Dios les dijo? Porque él dijo:

But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,

32 “ Yo soy el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob.” Así que Dios no es un Dios de muertos, sino de los que viven.»

‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”

33 C uando la gente escuchaba esto, se admiraba de su enseñanza. El gran mandamiento

When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

34 A l enterarse los fariseos que Jesús había hecho callar a los saduceos, se reunieron alrededor de él;

But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.

35 y uno de ellos, que era intérprete de la ley, para ponerlo a prueba le preguntó:

One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him.

36 « Maestro, ¿cuál es el gran mandamiento en la ley?»

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

37 J esús le respondió: «“Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente.”

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

38 É ste es el primero y más importante mandamiento.

This is the first and great commandment.

39 Y el segundo es semejante al primero: “Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.”

A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

40 D e estos dos mandamientos dependen toda la ley y los profetas.» ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”

41 M ientras los fariseos estaban reunidos, Jesús les preguntó:

Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

42 « ¿Qué piensan ustedes del Cristo? ¿De quién es hijo?» Y le respondieron: «De David».

saying, “What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “Of David.”

43 E ntonces él les dijo: «¿Y cómo es que, en el Espíritu, David lo llama Señor? Pues dijo:

He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 » “El Señor le dijo a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi derecha, hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.”

‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet?’

45 ¿ Cómo, entonces, puede ser su hijo, si David lo llama Señor?»

“If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?”

46 N adie podía responderle nada, y desde aquel día nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas.

No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
