1 A demás de sus abundantes riquezas y gran esplendor, Josafat se emparentó con Ajab,

Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab.

2 a sí que algunos años después fue a Samaria para visitar a Ajab, y Ajab mató muchas ovejas y bueyes para él y para la gente que lo acompañaba, pero lo persuadió a unirse con él para atacar a Ramot de Galaad.

After certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. Ahab killed sheep and cattle for him in abundance, and for the people who were with him, and moved him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead.

3 E l rey Ajab de Israel le dijo al rey Josafat de Judá: «¿Quieres atacar conmigo a Ramot de Galaad?» Y Josafat le respondió: «Yo soy como tú, y mi pueblo es como tu pueblo. Iremos contigo a la guerra.

Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me to Ramoth Gilead?” He answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people. We will be with you in the war.”

4 P ero antes te ruego que consultes hoy mismo la palabra del Señor.»

Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”

5 E l rey de Israel reunió a cuatrocientos profetas, y les preguntó: «¿Debemos ir a la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad, o debo quedarme quieto?» Los profetas dijeron: «Su Majestad puede ir, porque Dios los pondrá en sus manos.»

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” They said, “Go up; for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

6 P ero Josafat dijo: «¿No hay aquí algún profeta del Señor, por medio del cual podamos consultarlo?»

But Jehoshaphat said, “Isn’t there here a prophet of Yahweh besides, that we may inquire of him?”

7 E l rey de Israel le respondió a Josafat: «Aún queda uno, que es Micaías hijo de Imla. Por medio de él podemos consultar al Señor. Pero yo lo aborrezco, porque nunca me profetiza nada bueno, sino sólo cosas malas.» Josafat objetó: «No hable así Su Majestad.»

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

8 E l rey de Israel llamó a un oficial, y le dijo: «¡Que venga enseguida Micaías hijo de Imla!»

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Get Micaiah the son of Imla quickly.”

9 T anto el rey de Israel como el rey Josafat de Judá estaban sentados en su trono y vestidos con sus ropas reales, en la plaza que estaba junto a la entrada de la puerta de Samaria, mientras todos los profetas profetizaban en su presencia.

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

10 S edequías hijo de Quenaná había hecho unos cuernos de hierro, y decía: «Así ha dicho el Señor: “Con éstos cuernos atacarás a los sirios, hasta destruirlos por completo.”»

Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘With these you shall push the Syrians, until they are consumed.’”

11 T ambién todos los profetas profetizaban lo mismo, y decían: «Vaya Su Majestad y ataque a Ramot de Galaad, que obtendrá la victoria. El Señor la pondrá en sus manos.»

All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

12 E l mensajero que había ido a llamar a Micaías, le dijo: «Toma en cuenta que las palabras de los profetas coinciden en anunciar al rey cosas buenas. Yo te ruego que hables bien, y que tus palabras sean como las de ellos.»

The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Let your word therefore, please be like one of theirs, and speak good.”

13 P ero Micaías respondió: «Juro por el Señor, que sólo diré lo que mi Dios me ordene decir.» Cuando Micaías se presentó ante el rey,

Micaiah said, “As Yahweh lives, what my God says, that will I speak.”

14 é ste le dijo: «Micaías, ¿debemos ir y pelear contra Ramot de Galaad, o debo quedarme quieto?» Y Micaías respondió: «Vayan, que van a obtener la victoria. Esa gente será puesta en las manos de ustedes.»

When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” He said, “Go up, and prosper. They shall be delivered into your hand.”

15 E l rey le dijo: «¿Cuántas veces debo hacerte jurar, por el nombre del Señor, que no me digas nada que no sea la verdad?»

The king said to him, “How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?”

16 E ntonces Micaías dijo: «Veo a todo Israel esparcido por los montes, como ovejas sin pastor. El Señor ha dicho: “Esta gente no tiene a quien seguir. Que se regresen todos a su casa en paz.”»

He said, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. Yahweh said, ‘These have no master. Let them return every man to his house in peace.’”

17 E l rey de Israel le dijo entonces a Josafat: «¿No te había dicho ya que éste no me profetizaría nada bueno, sino sólo el mal?»

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

18 P ero Micaías añadió: «Escuchen la palabra del Señor: Yo he visto al Señor sentado en su trono. A su derecha y a su izquierda estaba todo el ejército de los cielos.

Micaiah said, “Therefore hear Yahweh’s word: I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

19 Y el Señor preguntó: “¿Quién inducirá a Ajab, el rey de Israel, para que ataque a Ramot de Galaad y muera en el intento?” Y uno decía una cosa, y otro decía otra.

Yahweh said, ‘Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One spoke saying in this way, and another saying in that way.

20 P ero un espíritu fue y se puso delante del Señor, y dijo: “Yo lo induciré.” Y el Señor preguntó: “¿Y cómo lo harás?”

A spirit came out, stood before Yahweh, and said, ‘I will entice him.’ “Yahweh said to him, ‘How?’

21 Y aquel espíritu dijo: “Saldré y seré un espíritu de mentira en labios de todos sus profetas.” Entonces el Señor dijo: “Ve y hazlo así. Indúcelo, que lograrás hacerlo.”

“He said, ‘I will go, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ “He said, ‘You will entice him, and will prevail also. Go and do so.’

22 A sí que el Señor ha puesto un espíritu de mentira en labios de estos profetas tuyos. El Señor ha dictado el mal contra ti.»

“Now therefore, behold, Yahweh has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets; and Yahweh has spoken evil concerning you.”

23 E n ese momento Sedequías hijo de Quenaná se acercó a Micaías y lo golpeó en la mejilla, a la vez que le decía: «¿Y por dónde salió de mí el espíritu del Señor para hablarte a ti?»

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, “Which way did Yahweh’s Spirit go from me to speak to you?”

24 Y Micaías le respondió: «Lo verás cuando llegue el momento, y que será cuando vayas de un cuarto a otro, para esconderte.»

Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day, when you shall go into an inner room to hide yourself.”

25 E ntonces el rey de Israel dijo: «Agarren a Micaías, y llévenlo ante Amón, el gobernador de la ciudad, y ante Joás, el hijo del rey.

The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

26 D íganles que yo, el rey, ordeno que lo metan a la cárcel, y que lo tengan a pan y agua, para que sufra y se angustie hasta que yo vuelva en paz.»

and say, ‘Thus says the king, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.”’”

27 P ero Micaías dijo, y lo repitió: «¡Escúchenme, pueblos todos! Si tú vuelves en paz, entonces el Señor no ha hablado por medio de mí.»

Micaiah said, “If you return at all in peace, Yahweh has not spoken by me.” He said, “Listen, you peoples, all of you!”

28 E l rey de Israel y el rey Josafat de Judá se dirigieron a Ramot de Galaad para atacarla.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.

29 Y el rey de Israel le dijo a Josafat: «Yo voy a disfrazarme para entrar en batalla. Pero tú puedes llevar puestas tus vestimentas reales.» Y así, el rey de Israel se disfrazó y entró en batalla.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.

30 P or su parte, el rey de Siria había dado a los capitanes de los carros que tenía consigo, la siguiente orden: «No traben combate con nadie, chico o grande, sino sólo con el rey de Israel.»

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, “Fight neither with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”

31 E n cuanto los capitanes de los carros vieron a Josafat, dijeron: «Éste es el rey de Israel», y lo rodearon para pelear contra él, pero Josafat clamó al Señor y el Señor lo ayudó y apartó de él a sus atacantes,

When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is the king of Israel!” Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshaphat cried out, and Yahweh helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

32 p ues cuando los capitanes de los carros vieron que no era el rey de Israel, dejaron de atacarlo.

When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

33 P ero uno de ellos disparó una flecha al azar y logró herir de muerte al rey de Israel, pues le dio entre las junturas de su armadura. Entonces el rey le ordenó al cochero: «Da vuelta al carro y sácame del campo, que estoy mal herido.»

A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of the chariot, “Turn your hand, and carry me out of the army; for I am severely wounded.”

34 P ero la batalla arreció ese día, así que el rey de Israel tuvo que mantenerse en pie en el carro, frente a los sirios, hasta la tarde; y murió al ponerse el sol.

The battle increased that day. However the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the evening; and about the time of the going down of the sun, he died.
