1 J acob levantó la vista, y vio que Esaú venía acompañado de cuatrocientos hombres. Entonces repartió a los niños entre Lea y Raquel y las dos siervas,
Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two servants.
2 p uso primero a las siervas y sus niños, luego a Lea y sus niños, y por último a Raquel y a José;
He put the servants and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.
3 l uego él se adelantó a ellos, y siete veces se inclinó hasta el suelo, hasta estar cerca de su hermano.
He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4 P ero Esaú corrió a su encuentro y, echándose a su cuello, lo abrazó y lo besó. Y los dos lloraron.
Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.
5 P ero al levantar Esaú la vista, y ver a las mujeres y los niños, preguntó: «¿Y éstos, quiénes son?» Y Jacob respondió: «Son los niños que Dios le ha dado a este siervo tuyo.»
He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
6 L legaron entonces las siervas con sus niños, y se inclinaron.
Then the servants came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.
7 L uego llegó Lea con sus niños, y se inclinaron; y tras ellos llegaron José y Raquel, y también se inclinaron.
Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8 E saú preguntó: «¿Qué te propones hacer con todos estos grupos que me he encontrado?» Y Jacob respondió: «He querido ganarme la buena voluntad de mi señor.»
Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” Jacob said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”
9 Y Esaú dijo: «Yo tengo ya demasiado, hermano mío. Lo que es tuyo, es tuyo.»
Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”
10 P ero Jacob respondió: «¡No, por favor! Si me he ganado tu buena voluntad, acepta mi presente. El ver tu rostro es como haber visto el rostro de Dios. Tú me has mostrado tu buena voluntad.
Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
11 A cepta, por favor, el presente que te he traído. Dios ha sido muy bueno conmigo, y todo esto es mío.» Y tanto le insistió Jacob, que Esaú lo aceptó.
Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.
12 L uego dijo Esaú: «Vamos, pongámonos en marcha. Yo iré delante de ti.»
Esau said, “Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before you.”
13 P ero Jacob le dijo: «Mi señor sabe que los niños son débiles, y que tengo ovejas y vacas recién paridas; si se les fatiga, en un solo día pueden morir todas las ovejas.
Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.
14 R uego a mi señor adelantarse a su siervo, que yo iré poco a poco, al paso del ganado que va delante de mí y al paso de los niños, hasta alcanzar a mi señor en Seir.»
Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”
15 E saú le dijo: «Permíteme dejar contigo parte de la gente que viene conmigo.» Y Jacob le dijo: «¿Para qué hacerlo así? Muéstreme mi señor su buena voluntad.»
Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the folk who are with me.” He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”
16 E se mismo día Esaú volvió a Seir por su camino,
So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
17 y Jacob se fue a Sucot. Allí se construyó una casa, y unas cabañas para su ganado, y es por eso que a ese lugar le puso por nombre Sucot.
Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18 D e regreso de Padán Aram, Jacob llegó sano y salvo a la ciudad de Siquén, que está en la tierra de Canaán, y acampó delante de la ciudad;
Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city.
19 p or cien monedas compró una parte del campo a los hijos de Jamor, padre de Siquén. Allí plantó su tienda,
He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.
20 y levantó un altar, al que llamó El Elohé Israel.
He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel.
