1 E scucha, pueblo mío, mi Ley; inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca.

Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.

2 A briré mi boca en proverbios; hablaré cosas escondidas desde tiempos antiguos,

I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,

3 l as cuales hemos oído y entendido, las que nuestros padres nos contaron.

Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

4 N o las encubriremos a sus hijos, contaremos a la generación venidera las alabanzas de Jehová, su potencia y las maravillas que hizo.

We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous deeds that he has done.

5 É l estableció testimonio en Jacob y puso ley en Israel, la cual mandó a nuestros padres que la notificaran a sus hijos;

For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;

6 p ara que lo sepa la generación venidera, los hijos que nazcan; y los que se levanten lo cuenten a sus hijos,

that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,

7 a fin de que pongan en Dios su confianza y no se olviden de las obras de Dios; que guarden sus mandamientos

that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God’s deeds, but keep his commandments,

8 y no sean como sus padres, generación terca y rebelde; generación que no dispuso su corazón, ni cuyo espíritu fue fiel para con Dios.

and might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

9 L os hijos de Efraín, arqueros muy diestros, volvieron las espaldas en el día de la batalla.

The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.

10 N o guardaron el pacto de Dios ni quisieron andar en su Ley;

They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.

11 a l contrario, se olvidaron de sus obras y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado.

They forgot his doings, his wondrous deeds that he had shown them.

12 D elante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.

He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

13 D ividió el mar y los hizo pasar. Detuvo las aguas como en un montón.

He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.

14 L os guió de día con nube y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego.

In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.

15 H endió las peñas en el desierto y les dio a beber como de grandes abismos,

He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.

16 p ues sacó de la peña corrientes e hizo descender aguas como ríos.

He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

17 P ero aun así, volvieron a pecar contra él, rebelándose contra el Altísimo en el desierto,

Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.

18 p ues tentaron a Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida a su gusto.

They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.

19 Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: «¿Podrá poner mesa en el desierto?

Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

20 É l ha herido la peña, y brotaron aguas y torrentes inundaron la tierra. ¿Podrá dar también pan? ¿Dispondrá carne para su pueblo?»

Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide flesh for his people?”

21 Y lo oyó Jehová y se indignó; se encendió el fuego contra Jacob y el furor subió contra Israel,

Therefore Yahweh heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,

22 p or cuanto no le habían creído ni habían confiado en su salvación.

because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.

23 S in embargo, mandó a las nubes de arriba, abrió las puertas de los cielos

Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.

24 e hizo llover sobre ellos maná, para que comieran, y les dio trigo de los cielos.

He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.

25 P an de nobles comió el hombre; les envió comida hasta saciarlos.

Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.

26 M ovió el viento solano en el cielo, y trajo con su poder al viento del sur,

He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.

27 e hizo llover sobre ellos carne, como polvo; como la arena del mar, aves que vuelan.

He rained also flesh on them as the dust; winged birds as the sand of the seas.

28 L as hizo caer en medio del campamento, alrededor de sus tiendas.

He let them fall in the middle of their camp, around their habitations.

29 C omieron y se saciaron; les cumplió, pues, su deseo.

So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.

30 N o habían saciado aún su apetito, aún estaba la comida en su boca,

They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,

31 c uando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, e hizo morir a los más robustos de ellos y derribó a los escogidos de Israel.

when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their fattest, and struck down the young men of Israel.

32 C on todo esto, volvieron a pecar y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas.

For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.

33 P or tanto, hizo acabar sus días como un soplo y sus años en tribulación.

Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.

34 S i los hacía morir, entonces buscaban a Dios; entonces se volvían solícitos en busca suya,

When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.

35 y se acordaban de que Dios era su refugio, que el Dios Altísimo era su redentor.

They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.

36 P ero lo halagaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían,

But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.

37 p ues sus corazones no eran rectos con él ni permanecieron firmes en su pacto.

For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.

38 P ero él, misericordioso, perdonaba la maldad y no los destruía; apartó muchas veces su ira y no despertó todo su enojo.

But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.

39 S e acordó de que eran carne, soplo que va y no vuelve.

He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.

40 ¡ Cuántas veces en el desierto se rebelaron contra él, y lo enojaron en el yermo!

How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!

41 Y volvían, y tentaban a Dios, y provocaban al Santo de Israel.

They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

42 N o se acordaban de su mano, del día que los redimió de la angustia;

They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;

43 c uando manifestó en Egipto sus señales y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán.

how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,

44 Y volvió sus ríos en sangre, y sus corrientes, para que no bebieran.

he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.

45 E nvió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los devoraban y ranas que los destruían.

He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

46 D io también a la oruga sus frutos y sus labores a la langosta.

He gave also their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.

47 S us viñas destruyó con granizo y sus higuerales con escarcha.

He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.

48 E ntregó al granizo sus bestias y sus ganados a los rayos.

He gave over their livestock also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.

49 E nvió sobre ellos el ardor de su ira; enojo, indignación y angustia, ¡un ejército de ángeles destructores!

He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.

50 D ispuso camino a su furor; no eximió la vida de ellos de la muerte, sino que los entregó a mortandad.

He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,

51 H izo morir a todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias de su fuerza en las tiendas de Cam.

and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.

52 H izo salir a su pueblo como a ovejas y los llevó por el desierto como a un rebaño.

But he led out his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

53 L os guió con seguridad, de modo que no tuvieran temor; y el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.

He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

54 L os trajo después a las fronteras de su tierra santa, a este monte que ganó con su mano derecha.

He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.

55 E chó las naciones de delante de ellos; con cuerdas repartió sus tierras en heredad e hizo habitar en sus tiendas a las tribus de Israel.

He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

56 P ero ellos tentaron y enojaron al Dios Altísimo y no guardaron sus testimonios;

Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies;

57 m ás bien, le dieron la espalda, rebelándose como sus padres; se torcieron como arco engañoso.

but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

58 L o enojaron con sus lugares altos y lo provocaron a celo con sus imágenes de talla.

For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.

59 L o oyó Dios y se enojó, y en gran manera aborreció a Israel.

When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel;

60 D ejó, por tanto, el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda en que habitó entre los hombres.

So that he abandoned the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;

61 E ntregó a cautiverio su poderío; su gloria, en manos del enemigo.

and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.

62 E ntregó también su pueblo a la espada y se irritó contra su heredad.

He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.

63 E l fuego devoró a sus jóvenes y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas en cantos nupciales.

Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.

64 S us sacerdotes cayeron a espada y sus viudas no hicieron lamentación.

Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.

65 E ntonces despertó el Señor como quien duerme, como un valiente que grita excitado por el vino,

Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.

66 e hirió a sus enemigos por detrás; les dio perpetua afrenta.

He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.

67 D esechó la casa de José y no escogió la tribu de Efraín,

Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,

68 s ino que escogió la tribu de Judá, el monte Sión, al cual amó.

But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.

69 E dificó su santuario a manera de eminencia, como la tierra que cimentó para siempre.

He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.

70 E ligió a David su siervo y lo tomó de los rebaños de ovejas;

He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

71 d e detrás de las paridas lo trajo, para que apacentara a Jacob su pueblo, a Israel su heredad.

from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.

72 Y los apacentó conforme a la integridad de su corazón; los pastoreó con la pericia de sus manos.

So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
