1 C uando David y sus hombres llegaron al tercer día a Siclag, los de Amalec habían invadido el Neguev y Siclag, habían asolado a Siclag y le habían prendido fuego.

When David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had made a raid on the South, and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag, and burned it with fire,

2 S e habían llevado cautivas a las mujeres y a todos los que estaban allí, del menor hasta el mayor, pero a nadie habían dado muerte, sino que se los llevaron y siguieron su camino.

and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off, and went their way.

3 L legó, pues, David con los suyos a la ciudad, y se encontró que estaba quemada, y que sus mujeres, sus hijos e hijas, habían sido llevados cautivos.

When David and his men came to the city, behold, it was burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive.

4 E ntonces David y la gente que lo acompañaba lloraron a voz en cuello, hasta que les faltaron las fuerzas para llorar.

Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.

5 L as dos mujeres de David, Ahinoam jezreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal, el de Carmel, también habían sido llevadas cautivas.

David’s two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

6 D avid se angustió mucho, porque el pueblo hablaba de apedrearlo, pues el alma de todo el pueblo estaba llena de amargura, cada uno por sus hijos y por sus hijas. Pero David halló fortaleza en Jehová, su Dios,

David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the souls of all the people were grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh his God.

7 y dijo al sacerdote Abiatar hijo de Ahimelec: «Te ruego que me acerques el efod». Abiatar acercó el efod a David,

David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

8 y David consultó a Jehová diciendo: —¿Perseguiré a esta banda de salteadores? ¿Los podré alcanzar? Él le dijo: —Síguelos, porque ciertamente los alcanzarás, y de cierto librarás a los cautivos.

David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue; for you will surely overtake them, and will without fail recover all.”

9 P artió, pues, David, junto a los seiscientos hombres que lo acompañaron, y llegaron hasta el torrente del Besor, donde se quedaron algunos.

So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.

10 D avid siguió adelante con cuatrocientos hombres; pues se quedaron atrás doscientos que, cansados, no pudieron pasar el torrente del Besor.

But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.

11 H allaron en el campo a un egipcio, al cual trajeron ante David, le dieron pan y comió, y le dieron a beber agua.

They found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and gave him bread, and he ate; and they gave him water to drink.

12 T ambién le dieron un pedazo de masa de higos secos y dos racimos de pasas. Luego que comió, se sintió reanimado, pues no había comido pan ni bebido agua durante tres días y tres noches.

They gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of raisins. When he had eaten, his spirit came again to him; for he had eaten no bread, and drank no water for three days and three nights.

13 E ntonces le preguntó David: —¿A quién perteneces, y de dónde eres? El joven egipcio respondió: —Soy siervo de un amalecita, y mi amo me abandonó hace tres días porque estaba enfermo.

David asked him, “To whom do you belong? Where are you from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my master left me, because three days ago I got sick.

14 H icimos una incursión a la parte del Neguev que pertenece a los cereteos, al de Judá, y al Neguev de Caleb. También incendiamos Siclag.

We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

15 — ¿Me llevarás tú adonde está esa tropa? —le preguntó David. —Júrame por Dios que no me matarás, ni me entregarás en manos de mi amo, y te llevaré adonde está esa gente —dijo él.

David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and not deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”

16 L o llevó, pues; y los encontraron desparramados sobre toda aquella tierra, comiendo, bebiendo y haciendo fiesta, por todo aquel gran botín que habían tomado de la tierra de los filisteos y de la tierra de Judá.

When he had brought him down, behold, they were spread around over all the ground, eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great plunder that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.

17 Y David los batió desde aquella mañana hasta la tarde del día siguiente. Ninguno de ellos escapó, salvo cuatrocientos jóvenes que montaron sobre los camellos y huyeron.

David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled.

18 R escató David todo lo que los amalecitas habían tomado, y libró asimismo a sus dos mujeres.

David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken; and David rescued his two wives.

19 N o les faltó nadie, ni chico ni grande, así de hijos como de hijas, ni nada del robo, de todas las cosas que les habían tomado; todo lo recuperó David.

There was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither plunder, nor anything that they had taken to them. David brought back all.

20 T omó también David todas las ovejas y el ganado mayor. Los que iban delante conduciendo aquel tropel decían: «Éste es el botín de David.»

David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s plunder.”

21 L legó David a donde estaban los doscientos hombres que, muy cansados para seguirlo, se habían quedado en el torrente del Besor; y ellos salieron a recibir a David y al pueblo que con él estaba. Cuando David llegó, saludó a la gente en paz.

David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.

22 P ero todos los malos y perversos que había entre los que iban con David, se pusieron a decir: «Puesto que no han ido con nosotros, no les daremos del botín que hemos recuperado; que cada uno tome a su mujer y a sus hijos y se vaya.»

Then all the wicked men and base fellows, of those who went with David, answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away, and depart.”

23 P ero David dijo: —No hagáis eso, hermanos míos, con lo que nos ha dado Jehová. Nos ha guardado y ha entregado en nuestras manos a los salteadores que nos atacaron.

Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

24 ¿ Quién os dará razón en este caso? Porque conforme a la parte del que desciende a la batalla, así ha de ser la parte del que se queda con el bagaje; les tocará por igual.

Who will listen to you in this matter? For as his share is who goes down to the battle, so shall his share be who stays with the baggage. They shall share alike.”

25 D esde aquel día en adelante fue esto ley y norma en Israel, hasta hoy.

It was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel to this day.

26 C uando David llegó a Siclag, envió parte del botín a los ancianos de Judá, sus amigos, diciendo: «Aquí tenéis un presente para vosotros del botín tomado a los enemigos de Jehová.»

When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the plunder to the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, “Behold, a present for you from the plunder of Yahweh’s enemies.”

27 S e lo envió a los de Bet-el, Ramot del Neguev, Jatir,

He sent it to those who were in Bethel, to those who were in Ramoth of the South, to those who were in Jattir,

28 A roer, Sifmot, Estemoa,

to those who were in Aroer, to those who were in Siphmoth, to those who were in Eshtemoa,

29 R acal, a las ciudades de Jerameel, a las ciudades del ceneo,

to those who were in Racal, to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

30 a los de Horma, Corasán, Atac,

to those who were in Hormah, to those who were in Borashan, to those who were in Athach,

31 H ebrón, y a todos los lugares donde David había estado con sus hombres.

to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.
