1 C uando Roboam consolidó el reino, dejó la ley de Jehová, y todo Israel con él.

When the kingdom of Rehoboam was established, and he was strong, he abandoned Yahweh’s law, and all Israel with him.

2 Y por haberse rebelado contra Jehová, en el quinto año del rey Roboam, subió Sisac, rey de Egipto, contra Jerusalén,

In the fifth year of king Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Yahweh,

3 c on mil doscientos carros y sesenta mil hombres de a caballo; pero el pueblo que venía con él de Egipto, esto es, libios, suquienos y etíopes, era innumerable.

with twelve hundred chariots, and sixty thousand horsemen. The people were without number who came with him out of Egypt: the Lubim, the Sukkiim, and the Ethiopians.

4 T omó las ciudades fortificadas de Judá y llegó hasta Jerusalén.

He took the fortified cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.

5 E l profeta Semaías vino ante Roboam y los príncipes de Judá que estaban reunidos en Jerusalén por causa de Sisac, y les dijo: —Así ha dicho Jehová: “Vosotros me habéis dejado, y por eso yo también os he dejado en manos de Sisac.”

Now Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, who were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, “Yahweh says, ‘You have forsaken me, therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.’”

6 E ntonces los príncipes de Israel y el rey se humillaron, y dijeron: —¡Justo es Jehová!

Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “Yahweh is righteous.”

7 C uando Jehová vio que se habían humillado, vino palabra de Jehová a Semaías, diciendo: «Se han humillado, no los destruiré, sino que los salvaré en breve y no se derramará mi ira contra Jerusalén por mano de Sisac.

When Yahweh saw that they humbled themselves, Yahweh’s word came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves. I will not destroy them; but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

8 P ero serán sus siervos, para que sepan lo que es servirme a mí, y qué es servir a los reyes de las naciones.»

Nevertheless they shall be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”

9 S ubió, pues, Sisac, rey de Egipto, a Jerusalén, y tomó los tesoros de la casa de Jehová y los tesoros de la casa del rey; todo se lo llevó; también los escudos de oro que Salomón había hecho.

So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of Yahweh’s house, and the treasures of the king’s house. He took it all away. He also took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

10 Y en lugar de ellos hizo el rey Roboam escudos de bronce y los entregó a los jefes de la guardia, los cuales custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey.

King Rehoboam made in their place shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house.

11 C uando el rey iba a la casa de Jehová, venían los de la guardia y los llevaban, y después los volvían a dejar en la sala de la guardia.

It was so, that as often as the king entered into Yahweh’s house, the guard came and bore them, and brought them back into the guard room.

12 A sí pues, por haberse humillado, la ira de Jehová se apartó de él y no lo destruyó del todo, ya que aún en Judá había cosas buenas.

When he humbled himself, Yahweh’s wrath turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether: and moreover in Judah there were good things found.

13 F ortalecido pues, Roboam reinó en Jerusalén; y tenía Roboam cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar y reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad que escogió Jehová entre todas las tribus de Israel para poner en ella su nombre. El nombre de la madre de Roboam fue Naama, una amonita.

So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there: and his mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

14 E hizo lo malo, porque no dispuso su corazón para buscar a Jehová.

He did that which was evil, because he didn’t set his heart to seek Yahweh.

15 L os hechos de Roboam, los primeros y los últimos, ¿no están escritos en los libros del profeta Semaías y del vidente Iddo, en el registro de las familias? Y entre Roboam y Jeroboam hubo guerra constante.

Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, aren’t they written in the histories of Shemaiah the prophet and of Iddo the seer, after the way of genealogies? There were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.

16 D urmió Roboam con sus padres y fue sepultado en la Ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar Abías, su hijo.

Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in David’s city: and Abijah his son reigned in his place.
