1 P alabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías en días de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, diciendo:

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

2 « Ve a casa de los recabitas, habla con ellos e introdúcelos en la casa de Jehová, en uno de los aposentos, y dales a beber vino.»

Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into Yahweh’s house, into one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink.

3 T omé entonces a Jaazanías hijo de Jeremías hijo de Habasinías, a sus hermanos, a todos sus hijos y a toda la familia de los recabitas,

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

4 y los llevé a la casa de Jehová, al aposento de los hijos de Hanán hijo de Igdalías, hombre de Dios, el cual estaba junto al aposento de los jefes, que estaba sobre el aposento de Maasías hijo de Salum, guarda de la puerta.

and I brought them into Yahweh’s house, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

5 P use delante de los hijos de la familia de los recabitas tazas y copas llenas de vino, y les dije: «Bebed vino.»

I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink wine!

6 P ero ellos dijeron: «No beberemos vino, porque Jonadab hijo de Recab, nuestro padre, nos ordenó diciendo: “No beberéis jamás vino, vosotros ni vuestros hijos.

But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever:

7 N o edificaréis casa y no sembraréis sementera ni plantaréis viña ni la retendréis, sino que habitaréis en tiendas todos vuestros días, para que viváis muchos días sobre la faz de la tierra donde vosotros habitáis.”

neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you live.

8 Y nosotros hemos obedecido a la voz de nuestro padre Jonadab hijo de Recab en todas las cosas que nos mandó: no beber vino en todos nuestros días, ni nosotros ni nuestras mujeres ni nuestros hijos ni nuestras hijas;

We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

9 y no edificar casas para nuestra habitación, ni tener viña ni heredad ni sementera.

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

10 H abitamos, pues, en tiendas, y hemos obedecido y hecho conforme a todas las cosas que nos mandó Jonadab, nuestro padre.

but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

11 S ucedió, no obstante, que cuando Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, subió a la tierra, dijimos: “Venid, ocultémonos en Jerusalén de la presencia del ejército de los caldeos y de la presencia del ejército de los de Siria”, y en Jerusalén nos quedamos.»

But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, we said, “Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we will dwell at Jerusalem.”

12 V ino palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

13 « Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Ve y di a los hombres de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén: ¿No aprenderéis a obedecer mis palabras? dice Jehová.

Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.

14 F ue firme la palabra de Jonadab hijo de Recab, el cual mandó a sus hijos que no bebieran vino, y no lo han bebido hasta hoy, por obedecer al mandamiento de su padre. En cambio, yo os he hablado desde el principio y sin cesar, y no me habéis escuchado.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father’s commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

15 E nvié a vosotros todos mis siervos los profetas, desde el principio y sin cesar, para deciros: Volveos ahora cada uno de vuestro mal camino, enmendad vuestras obras y no vayáis tras dioses extraños para servirlos, y viviréis en la tierra que os di a vosotros y a vuestros padres; pero no inclinasteis vuestro oído ni me escuchasteis.

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

16 C iertamente los hijos de Jonadab hijo de Recab tuvieron por firme el mandamiento que les dio su padre; pero este pueblo no me ha obedecido.

Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;

17 P or tanto, así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Yo traeré sobre Judá y sobre todos los habitantes de Jerusalén todo el mal que contra ellos he hablado, porque les hablé y no escucharon, los llamé y no han respondido.»

therefore Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

18 D ijo, pues, Jeremías a la familia de los recabitas: «Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: “Por cuanto obedecisteis al mandamiento de Jonadab, vuestro padre, y guardasteis todos sus mandamientos e hicisteis conforme a todas las cosas que él os mandó,

Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;

19 p or eso, no faltará de Jonadab hijo de Recab, un descendiente que esté en mi presencia todos los días.”» Así lo ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel.

therefore Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
