1 E n el año segundo de Joás hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá.

In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah began to reign.

2 C uando comenzó a reinar tenía veinticinco años, y reinó en Jerusalén veintinueve años. El nombre de su madre era Joadán, de Jerusalén.

He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 H izo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, aunque no como David, su padre, ya que hizo conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho Joás, su padre.

He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, yet not like David his father. He did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 C on todo, los lugares altos no fueron quitados, pues el pueblo aún sacrificaba y quemaba incienso en esos lugares altos.

However the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

5 C uando el reino se afianzó en sus manos, mató a los siervos que habían dado muerte al rey, su padre.

As soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, he killed his servants who had slain the king his father,

6 P ero no mató a los hijos de los que le dieron muerte, conforme a lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó diciendo: «No harán morir a los padres por los hijos, ni a los hijos por los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su propio pecado.»

but the children of the murderers he didn’t put to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as Yahweh commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.”

7 A masías mató asimismo a diez mil edomitas en el valle de la Sal, tomó a Sela por asalto y la llamó Jocteel, como se la conoce hasta hoy.

He killed ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt, and took Sela by war, and called its name Joktheel, to this day.

8 E ntonces Amasías envió mensajeros a Joás hijo de Joacaz hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, diciéndole: «Ven, para que nos veamos las caras.»

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.”

9 P ero Joás, rey de Israel, envió a Amasías, rey de Judá, esta respuesta: «El cardo que está en el Líbano envió a decir al cedro que está en el Líbano: “Dale tu hija por mujer a mi hijo.” Pero las fieras que están en el Líbano pasaron y pisotearon el cardo.

Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as wife. Then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

10 C iertamente has derrotado a Edom y tu corazón se ha envanecido; gloríate, pues, pero quédate en tu casa. ¿Para qué te metes en un mal que te hará caer junto a Judá?»

You have indeed struck Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Enjoy the glory of it, and stay at home; for why should you meddle to your harm, that you fall, even you, and Judah with you?’”

11 P ero Amasías no escuchó, por lo cual subió Joás, rey de Israel, y se enfrentaron en Bet-semes de Judá, él y Amasías, rey de Judá.

But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

12 J udá cayó delante de Israel, y cada cual huyó a su tienda.

Judah was defeated by Israel; and each man fled to his tent.

13 J oás, rey de Israel, tomó prisionero en Bet-semes a Amasías, rey de Judá, hijo de Joás hijo de Ocozías. Luego marchó a Jerusalén y rompió el muro de la ciudad desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta de la esquina, cuatrocientos codos en total.

Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14 S e apoderó, además, de todo el oro, la plata y todos los utensilios que hallaron en la casa de Jehová y en los tesoros de la casa del rey. Y después de tomar como rehenes a los hijos del rey, regresó a Samaria.

He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in Yahweh’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

15 L os demás hechos que ejecutó Joás, sus hazañas, y cómo peleó contra Amasías, rey de Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 J oás durmió con sus padres y fue sepultado en Samaria con los reyes de Israel. En su lugar reinó Jeroboam, su hijo.

Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.

17 A masías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.

Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18 L os demás hechos de Amasías, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 C onspiraron contra él en Jerusalén, y él huyó a Laquis, pero lo persiguieron hasta Laquis y allí lo mataron.

They made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and killed him there.

20 L o trajeron luego sobre caballos y lo sepultaron en Jerusalén con sus padres, en la ciudad de David.

They brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in David’s city.

21 E ntonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó a Azarías, que tenía dieciséis años, y lo proclamaron rey en lugar de Amasías, su padre.

All the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the place of his father Amaziah.

22 R eedificó él a Elat y, después que el rey durmió con sus padres, la restituyó a Judá. Reinado de Jeroboam II

He built Elath, and restored it to Judah. After that the king slept with his fathers.

23 E l año quince de Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar Jeroboam hijo de Joás en Samaria sobre Israel. Reinó cuarenta y un años,

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria for forty-one years.

24 p ero hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, pues no se apartó de todos los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, el que hizo pecar a Israel.

He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight. He didn’t depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin.

25 R estauró los límites de Israel desde la entrada de Hamat hasta el mar del Arabá, conforme a la palabra de Jehová, Dios de Israel, la cual había él anunciado por medio de su siervo Jonás hijo de Amitai, profeta que fue de Gat-hefer.

He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, according to Yahweh, the God of Israel’s word, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath Hepher.

26 P orque Jehová había visto la muy amarga aflicción de Israel: no había siervo ni libre, ni quien diera ayuda a Israel.

For Yahweh saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter; for all, slave and free, and there was no helper for Israel.

27 J ehová no había decidido borrar el nombre de Israel de debajo del cielo, y los salvó por medio de Jeroboam hijo de Joás.

Yahweh didn’t say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under the sky; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 L os demás hechos de Jeroboam y todo lo que hizo, su valentía, todas las guerras que hizo y cómo restituyó al dominio de Israel a Damasco y Hamat, que habían pertenecido a Judá, ¿no está escrito en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel?

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he fought, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 Y Jeroboam durmió con sus padres, los reyes de Israel. En su lugar reinó Zacarías, su hijo.

Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
