1 I l secondo anno di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d’Israele, cominciò a regnare Amasia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda.

In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah began to reign.

2 A veva venticinque anni quando cominciò a regnare, e regnò ventinove anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Ioaddan ed era di Gerusalemme.

He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 E gli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore; non però come Davide suo padre; fece interamente come aveva fatto Ioas suo padre.

He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, yet not like David his father. He did according to all that Joash his father had done.

However the high places were not taken away. The people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

5 N on appena il potere reale fu assicurato nelle sue mani, egli fece morire quei suoi servitori che avevano ucciso il re suo padre;

As soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, he killed his servants who had slain the king his father,

11 M a Amasia non gli volle dar retta. Così Ioas, re d’Israele, marciò contro Amasia; ed egli e Amasia, re di Giuda, si trovarono faccia a faccia a Bet-Semes, nel territorio di Giuda.

But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

Judah was defeated by Israel; and each man fled to his tent.

Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

14 E prese tutto l’oro e l’argento e tutti i vasi che si trovavano nella casa del Signore e nei tesori del palazzo del re; prese anche degli ostaggi e se ne tornò a Samaria.

He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in Yahweh’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

15 I l resto delle azioni compiute da Ioas, il suo valore e come combatté contro Amasia, re di Giuda, sono cose scritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele.

Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his place.

17 A masia, figlio di Ioas, re di Giuda, visse ancora quindici anni dopo la morte di Ioas, figlio di Ioacaz, re d’Israele.

Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria for forty-one years.

24 E gli fece quello che è male agli occhi del Signore; non si allontanò da nessuno dei peccati con i quali Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, aveva fatto peccare Israele.

He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight. He didn’t depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin.

25 E gli ristabilì i confini d’Israele dall’ingresso di Camat al mare della pianura, come il Signore, Dio d’Israele, aveva detto per mezzo del suo servitore il profeta Giona, figlio di Amittai, che era di Gat-Efer.

He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath to the sea of the Arabah, according to Yahweh, the God of Israel’s word, which he spoke by his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was from Gath Hepher.

26 I l Signore aveva visto che l’afflizione d’Israele era amarissima, che schiavi e liberi erano ridotti all’estremo e che non c’era più nessuno che soccorresse Israele.

27 I l Signore non aveva parlato ancora di cancellare il nome d’Israele da sotto al cielo; quindi li salvò, per mezzo di Geroboamo, figlio di Ioas.

Yahweh didn’t say that he would blot out the name of Israel from under the sky; but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 I l resto delle azioni di Geroboamo, tutto quello che fece, il suo valore in guerra e come riconquistò a Israele Damasco e Camat, che erano appartenute a Giuda, si trova scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele.

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he fought, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, which had belonged to Judah, for Israel, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 G eroboamo si addormentò con i suoi padri, i re d’Israele; e Zaccaria, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.

Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his place.
