1 E cco la parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte del Signore:

The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

2 « Così parla il Signore, Dio d’Israele: “Scrivi in un libro tutte le parole che ti ho dette:

Thus speaks Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.

3 p oiché ecco, i giorni vengono”, dice il Signore, “in cui io riporterò dall’esilio il mio popolo d’Israele e di Giuda”, dice il Signore, “e li ricondurrò nel paese che diedi ai loro padri, ed essi lo possederanno”».

For, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will turn again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, says Yahweh; and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

4 Q ueste sono le parole che il Signore ha pronunciato riguardo a Israele e a Giuda.

These are the words that Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

5 « Così parla il Signore: “Noi udiamo un grido di terrore, di spavento, e non di pace.

For Yahweh says: We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

6 I nformatevi e guardate se un maschio partorisce! Perché dunque io vedo tutti gli uomini con le mani sui fianchi come donna che partorisce? Perché tutte le facce sono impallidite?

Ask now, and see whether a man does travail with child: why do I see every man with his hands on his waist, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

7 A himè, perché quel giorno è grande, non ce ne fu mai altro di simile; è un tempo di angoscia per Giacobbe, ma tuttavia egli ne sarà salvato.

Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

8 I n quel giorno”, dice il Signore degli eserciti, “io spezzerò il suo giogo dal tuo collo e romperò le tue catene; gli stranieri non ti faranno più loro schiavo,

It shall come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds; and strangers shall no more make him their bondservant;

9 m a quelli d’Israele serviranno il Signore, il loro Dio, e Davide loro re, che io susciterò loro.

but they shall serve Yahweh their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.

10 T u dunque, Giacobbe, mio servitore, non temere”, dice il Signore; “non ti sgomentare, Israele; poiché, ecco, io ti salverò dal lontano paese, salverò la tua discendenza dalla terra di schiavitù. Giacobbe ritornerà, sarà in riposo, sarà tranquillo e nessuno più lo spaventerà.

Therefore don’t you be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says Yahweh; neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and no one shall make him afraid.

11 I nfatti io sono con te”, dice il Signore, “per salvarti. Io annienterò tutte le nazioni fra le quali ti ho disperso, ma non annienterò te; però ti castigherò con giusta misura e non ti lascerò del tutto impunito”.

For I am with you, says Yahweh, to save you: for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.

12 « Così parla il Signore: “La tua ferita è incurabile, la tua piaga è grave.

For Yahweh says, Your hurt is incurable, and your wound grievous.

13 N essuno difende la tua causa; per un’ulcera vi sono medicine, ma per te non c’è guarigione.

There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: you have no healing medicines.

14 T utti i tuoi amanti ti hanno dimenticata, non si preoccupano più per te; poiché io ti ho percossa come si percuote un nemico, ti ho inflitto la correzione di un uomo crudele, per la tua grande iniquità, perché i tuoi peccati sono andati aumentando.

All your lovers have forgotten you; they don’t seek you: for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.

15 P erché gridi a causa della tua ferita? Il tuo dolore è insanabile. Io ti ho fatto queste cose per la tua grande iniquità, perché i tuoi peccati sono andati aumentando.

Why do you cry for your hurt? Your pain is incurable: for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased, I have done these things to you.

16 T uttavia coloro che ti divorano saranno divorati, tutti i tuoi nemici, tutti quanti, saranno deportati; quelli che ti spogliano saranno spogliati, quelli che ti saccheggiano li abbandonerò al saccheggio.

Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, everyone of them, shall go into captivity; and those who plunder you shall be plunder, and all who prey on you will I give for a prey.

17 M a io medicherò le tue ferite, ti guarirò dalle tue piaghe”, dice il Signore, “poiché ti chiamano la scacciata, la Sion di cui nessuno si cura”. Liberazione d’Israele

For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh; because they have called you an outcast, saying, It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.

18 « Così parla il Signore: “Ecco, io riporto dall’esilio le tende di Giacobbe e ho pietà delle sue abitazioni; le città saranno ricostruite sulle loro macerie, i palazzi saranno abitati come di consueto.

Yahweh says: Behold, I will turn again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built on its own hill, and the palace shall be inhabited in its own way.

19 N e usciranno ringraziamenti, voci di gente festante. Io li moltiplicherò e non saranno più ridotti a pochi; li renderò onorati e non saranno più avviliti.

Out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

20 I suoi figli saranno come furono un tempo, la sua comunità sarà stabilita davanti a me, e io punirò tutti i loro oppressori.

Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before me; and I will punish all who oppress them.

21 I l loro principe sarà uno di essi e chi li dominerà uscirà di mezzo a loro; io lo farò avvicinare ed egli verrà a me. Poiché chi disporrebbe il suo cuore ad avvicinarsi a me?”, dice il Signore.

Their prince shall be of themselves, and their ruler shall proceed from among them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach to me: for who is he who has had boldness to approach to me? says Yahweh.

22 “ Voi sarete mio popolo e io sarò vostro Dio”».

You shall be my people, and I will be your God.

23 E cco la tempesta del Signore! Il furore scoppia, la tempesta imperversa, scroscia sul capo degli empi.

Behold, Yahweh’s storm, his wrath, has gone out, a sweeping storm: it shall burst on the head of the wicked.

24 L ’ardente ira del Signore non si placherà, finché non abbia eseguito, compiuto i disegni del suo cuore; negli ultimi giorni lo capirete.

The fierce anger of Yahweh will not return, until he has executed, and until he has performed the intentions of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it.
