1 I l Signore parlò a Mosè, nel deserto del Sinai, nella tenda di convegno, il primo giorno del secondo mese, il secondo anno dopo l’uscita dei figli d’Israele dal paese d’Egitto, e disse:

Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

2 « Fate la somma di tutta la comunità dei figli d’Israele secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, uno per uno,

“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one;

3 d all’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che in Israele possono andare in guerra; tu e Aaronne ne farete il censimento, secondo le loro schiere.

from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their divisions.

4 C on voi ci sarà un uomo per tribù, che sia capo del casato dei suoi padri.

With you there shall be a man of every tribe; everyone head of his fathers’ house.

5 Q uesti sono i nomi degli uomini che vi assisteranno. Di Ruben: Elisur, figlio di Sedeur;

These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

6 d i Simeone: Selumiel, figlio di Surisaddai;

Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

7 d i Giuda: Nason, figlio di Amminadab;

Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

8 d i Issacar: Netaneel, figlio di Suar;

Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

9 d i Zabulon: Eliab, figlio di Chelon;

Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon.

10 d ei figli di Giuseppe, di Efraim: Elisama, figlio di Ammiud; di Manasse: Gamaliel, figlio di Pedasur;

Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

11 d i Beniamino: Abidan, figlio di Ghideoni;

Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni.

12 d i Dan: Aiezer, figlio di Ammisaddai;

Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

13 d i Ascer: Paghiel, figlio di Ocran;

Of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran.

14 d i Gad: Eliasaf, figlio di Deuel;

Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

15 d i Neftali: Aira, figlio di Enan».

Of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan.”

16 Q uesti sono i membri della comunità che furono convocati, i capi delle tribù dei loro padri, i capi delle migliaia d’Israele.

These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

17 M osè e Aaronne presero dunque questi uomini che erano stati designati per nome,

Moses and Aaron took these men who are mentioned by name.

18 e convocarono tutta la comunità, il primo giorno del secondo mese; e il popolo fu censito secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando il numero delle persone dai vent’anni in su, uno per uno.

They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.

19 C ome il Signore gli aveva ordinato, Mosè ne fece il censimento nel deserto del Sinai.

As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

20 F igli di Ruben, primogenito d’Israele, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, uno per uno, dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

The children of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

21 i l censimento della tribù di Ruben diede la cifra di quarantaseimilacinquecento.

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

22 F igli di Simeone, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, uno per uno dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those who were numbered of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

23 i l censimento della tribù di Simeone diede la cifra di cinquantanovemilatrecento.

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

24 F igli di Gad, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

26 F igli di Giuda, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

27 i l censimento della tribù di Giuda diede la cifra di settantaquattromilaseicento.

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

28 F igli di Issacar, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

34 F igli di Manasse, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

36 F igli di Beniamino, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

38 F igli di Dan, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

40 F igli di Ascer, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

41 i l censimento della tribù di Ascer diede la cifra di quarantunmilacinquecento.

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

42 F igli di Neftali, loro discendenti secondo le loro famiglie, secondo la discendenza paterna, contando i nomi dall’età di vent’anni in su, tutti quelli che potevano andare in guerra:

Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

43 i l censimento della tribù di Neftali diede la cifra di cinquantatremilaquattrocento.

those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

44 Q uesti sono gli uomini di cui Mosè e Aaronne fecero il censimento, assistiti dai dodici capi d’Israele: ce n’era uno per ognuna delle case dei loro padri.

These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

45 C osì tutti i figli d’Israele dei quali fu fatto il censimento, secondo le famiglie dei padri, dall’età di vent’anni in su, cioè tutti gli uomini che in Israele potevano andare in guerra,

So all those who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel;

46 t utti quelli dei quali fu fatto il censimento furono seicentotremilacinquecentocinquanta. I Leviti

even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

47 M a quelli che erano Leviti, secondo la tribù paterna, non furono compresi nel censimento con gli altri;

But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

48 p oiché il Signore aveva detto a Mosè:

For Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

49 « Soltanto della tribù di Levi non farai il censimento, e non ne unirai l’ammontare a quello dei figli d’Israele;

“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;

50 m a affida ai Leviti la cura del tabernacolo della testimonianza, di tutti i suoi utensili e di tutto ciò che gli appartiene. Essi porteranno il tabernacolo e tutti i suoi utensili, ne faranno il servizio e staranno accampati attorno al tabernacolo.

but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

51 Q uando il tabernacolo dovrà partire, i Leviti lo smonteranno; quando il tabernacolo dovrà accamparsi in qualche luogo, i Leviti lo rimonteranno; l’estraneo che gli si avvicinerà sarà messo a morte.

When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

52 I figli d’Israele pianteranno le loro tende ognuno nel suo campo, ognuno vicino alla sua bandiera, secondo le loro schiere.

The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.

53 M a i Leviti pianteranno le loro tende attorno al tabernacolo della testimonianza, affinché la mia ira non si accenda contro la comunità dei figli d’Israele; i Leviti avranno la cura del tabernacolo della testimonianza».

But the Levites shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

54 I figli d’Israele fecero così, conformandosi in tutto agli ordini che il Signore aveva dato a Mosè.

Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.
