1 « Allora il regno dei cieli sarà paragonato a dieci vergini le quali, prese le loro lampade, uscirono a incontrare lo sposo.

“Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom.

2 C inque di loro erano stolte e cinque avvedute;

Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

3 l e stolte, nel prendere le loro lampade, non avevano preso con sé dell’olio,

Those who were foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them,

4 m entre le avvedute, insieme con le loro lampade, avevano preso dell’olio nei vasi.

but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5 S iccome lo sposo tardava, tutte divennero assonnate e si addormentarono.

Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

6 V erso mezzanotte si levò un grido: “Ecco lo sposo, uscitegli incontro!”

But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Behold! The bridegroom is coming! Come out to meet him!’

7 A llora tutte quelle vergini si svegliarono e prepararono le loro lampade.

Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8 E le stolte dissero alle avvedute: “Dateci del vostro olio, perché le nostre lampade si spengono”.

The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’

9 M a le avvedute risposero: “No, perché non basterebbe per noi e per voi; andate piuttosto dai venditori e compratevene!”

But the wise answered, saying, ‘What if there isn’t enough for us and you? You go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’

10 M a, mentre quelle andavano a comprarne, arrivò lo sposo; e quelle che erano pronte entrarono con lui nella sala delle nozze, e la porta fu chiusa.

While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

11 P iù tardi vennero anche le altre vergini, dicendo: “Signore, Signore, aprici!”

Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’

12 M a egli rispose: “Io vi dico in verità: Non vi conosco”.

But he answered, ‘Most certainly I tell you, I don’t know you.’

13 V egliate dunque, perché non sapete né il giorno né l’ora. Parabola dei talenti

Watch therefore, for you don’t know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

14 « Poiché avverrà come a un uomo il quale, partendo per un viaggio, chiamò i suoi servi e affidò loro i suoi beni.

“For it is like a man, going into another country, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.

15 A uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due e a un altro uno, a ciascuno secondo la sua capacità; e partì.

To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his own ability. Then he went on his journey.

16 S ubito, colui che aveva ricevuto i cinque talenti andò a farli fruttare, e ne guadagnò altri cinque.

Immediately he who received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.

17 A llo stesso modo, quello dei due talenti ne guadagnò altri due.

In the same way, he also who got the two gained another two.

18 M a colui che ne aveva ricevuto uno andò a fare una buca in terra e vi nascose il denaro del suo padrone.

But he who received the one talent went away and dug in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

19 D opo molto tempo, il padrone di quei servi ritornò a fare i conti con loro.

“Now after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reconciled accounts with them.

20 C olui che aveva ricevuto i cinque talenti venne e presentò altri cinque talenti, dicendo: “Signore, tu mi affidasti cinque talenti: ecco, ho guadagnato altri cinque talenti”.

He who received the five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents. Behold, I have gained another five talents besides them.’

21 I l suo padrone gli disse: “Va bene, servo buono e fedele; sei stato fedele in poca cosa, ti costituirò sopra molte cose; entra nella gioia del tuo Signore”.

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

22 P oi, si presentò anche quello dei due talenti e disse: “Signore, tu mi affidasti due talenti; ecco, ho guadagnato altri due talenti”.

“He also who got the two talents came and said, ‘Lord, you delivered to me two talents. Behold, I have gained another two talents besides them.’

23 I l suo padrone gli disse: “Va bene, servo buono e fedele, sei stato fedele in poca cosa, ti costituirò sopra molte cose; entra nella gioia del tuo Signore”.

“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

24 P oi si avvicinò anche quello che aveva ricevuto un talento solo e disse: “Signore, io sapevo che tu sei un uomo duro, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso;

“He also who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not scatter.

25 h o avuto paura e sono andato a nascondere il tuo talento sotto terra; eccoti il tuo”.

I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’

26 I l suo padrone gli rispose: “Servo malvagio e fannullone, tu sapevi che io mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;

“But his lord answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant. You knew that I reap where I didn’t sow, and gather where I didn’t scatter.

27 d ovevi dunque portare il mio denaro dai banchieri; al mio ritorno avrei ritirato il mio con l’interesse.

You ought therefore to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back my own with interest.

28 T oglietegli dunque il talento e datelo a colui che ha i dieci talenti.

Take away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents.

29 P oiché a chiunque ha, sarà dato ed egli sovrabbonderà; ma a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

For to everyone who has will be given, and he will have abundance, but from him who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away.

30 E quel servo inutile, gettatelo nelle tenebre di fuori. Lì ci sarà pianto e stridor di denti”. Giudizio contro le nazioni

Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

31 « Quando il Figlio dell’uomo verrà nella sua gloria con tutti gli angeli, prenderà posto sul suo trono glorioso.

“But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.

32 E tutte le genti saranno riunite davanti a lui ed egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dai capri;

Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

33 e metterà le pecore alla sua destra e i capri alla sinistra.

He will set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 A llora il re dirà a quelli della sua destra: “Venite, voi, i benedetti del Padre mio; ereditate il regno che v’è stato preparato fin dalla fondazione del mondo.

Then the King will tell those on his right hand, ‘Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;

35 P erché ebbi fame e mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e mi deste da bere; fui straniero e mi accoglieste;

for I was hungry, and you gave me food to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me drink. I was a stranger, and you took me in.

36 f ui nudo e mi vestiste; fui ammalato e mi visitaste; fui in prigione e veniste a trovarmi”.

I was naked, and you clothed me. I was sick, and you visited me. I was in prison, and you came to me.’

37 A llora i giusti gli risponderanno: “Signore, quando mai ti abbiamo visto affamato e ti abbiamo dato da mangiare? O assetato e ti abbiamo dato da bere?

“Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, and feed you; or thirsty, and give you a drink?

38 Q uando mai ti abbiamo visto straniero e ti abbiamo accolto? O nudo e ti abbiamo vestito?

When did we see you as a stranger, and take you in; or naked, and clothe you?

39 Q uando mai ti abbiamo visto ammalato o in prigione e siamo venuti a trovarti?”

When did we see you sick, or in prison, and come to you?’

40 E il re risponderà loro: “In verità vi dico che in quanto lo avete fatto a uno di questi miei minimi fratelli, l’avete fatto a me”.

“The King will answer them, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

41 A llora dirà anche a quelli della sua sinistra: “Andate via da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato per il diavolo e per i suoi angeli!

Then he will say also to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;

42 P erché ebbi fame e non mi deste da mangiare; ebbi sete e non mi deste da bere;

for I was hungry, and you didn’t give me food to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me no drink;

43 f ui straniero e non m’accoglieste; nudo e non mi vestiste; malato e in prigione, e non mi visitaste”.

I was a stranger, and you didn’t take me in; naked, and you didn’t clothe me; sick, and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’

44 A llora anche questi risponderanno, dicendo: “Signore, quando ti abbiamo visto aver fame, o sete, o essere straniero, o nudo, o ammalato, o in prigione, e non ti abbiamo assistito?”

“Then they will also answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and didn’t help you?’

45 A llora risponderà loro: “In verità vi dico che in quanto non l’avete fatto a uno di questi minimi, non l’avete fatto neppure a me”.

“Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Most certainly I tell you, because you didn’t do it to one of the least of these, you didn’t do it to me.’

46 Q uesti se ne andranno a punizione eterna; ma i giusti a vita eterna».

These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
