1 I capi famiglia dei figli di Galaad, figlio di Machir, figlio di Manasse, della famiglia di Giuseppe, si fecero avanti a parlare in presenza di Mosè e dei capi, i primi delle famiglie degli Israeliti,

The heads of the fathers’ households of the family of the children of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near, and spoke before Moses, and before the princes, the heads of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel.

2 e dissero: «Il Signore ha ordinato al mio signore di dare il paese in eredità ai figli d’Israele, a sorte; il mio signore ha pure ricevuto l’ordine dal Signore di dare l’eredità di Selofead, nostro fratello, alle sue figlie.

They said, “Yahweh commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the children of Israel. My lord was commanded by Yahweh to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters.

3 S e queste si sposano con qualcuno dei figli delle altre tribù israelite la loro eredità sarà detratta dall’eredità dei nostri padri, e aggiunta all’eredità della tribù nella quale esse saranno entrate; così sarà detratta dall’eredità che ci è toccata in sorte.

If they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then will their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they shall belong. So will it be taken away from the lot of our inheritance.

4 E quando verrà il giubileo per i figli d’Israele, la loro eredità sarà aggiunta a quella della tribù nella quale saranno entrate e l’eredità loro sarà detratta dall’eredità della tribù dei nostri padri».

When the jubilee of the children of Israel shall be, then will their inheritance be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they shall belong. So their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.”

5 M osè trasmise ai figli d’Israele questi ordini del Signore, e disse: «La tribù dei figli di Giuseppe dice bene.

Moses commanded the children of Israel according to Yahweh’s word, saying, “The tribe of the sons of Joseph speaks right.

6 Q uesto è quanto il Signore ha ordinato riguardo alle figlie di Selofead: si sposeranno con chi vorranno, purché si sposino in una famiglia della tribù dei loro padri.

This is the thing which Yahweh does command concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, ‘Let them be married to whom they think best; only they shall marry into the family of the tribe of their father.

7 C osicché nessuna eredità, tra i figli d’Israele, passerà da una tribù all’altra, poiché ciascuno dei figli d’Israele si terrà stretto all’eredità della tribù dei suoi padri.

So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel move from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall all keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.

8 O gni giovane donna che possiede un’eredità in una delle tribù dei figli d’Israele si sposerà con qualcuno di una famiglia della tribù di suo padre, affinché ognuno dei figli d’Israele possieda l’eredità dei suoi padri.

Every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be wife to one of the family of the tribe of her father, that the children of Israel may each possess the inheritance of his fathers.

9 C osì nessuna eredità passerà da una tribù all’altra, ma ognuna delle tribù dei figli d’Israele si terrà stretta alla propria eredità».

So shall no inheritance move from one tribe to another tribe; for the tribes of the children of Israel shall each keep his own inheritance.’”

10 L e figlie di Selofead si conformarono all’ordine che il Signore aveva dato a Mosè.

The daughters of Zelophehad did as Yahweh commanded Moses:

11 M aala, Tirsa, Cogla, Milca e Noa, figlie di Selofead, si sposarono con i figli dei loro zii;

for Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married to their father’s brothers’ sons.

12 s i sposarono nelle famiglie dei figli di Manasse, figlio di Giuseppe, e la loro eredità rimase nella tribù della famiglia del loro padre.

They were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph. Their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.

13 T ali sono i comandamenti e le leggi che il Signore diede ai figli d’Israele per mezzo di Mosè, nelle pianure di Moab, presso il Giordano, di fronte a Gerico.

These are the commandments and the ordinances which Yahweh commanded by Moses to the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
