1 I l Signore disse a Mosè: «Io farò venire ancora una piaga sul faraone e sull’Egitto; poi egli vi lascerà partire da qui. Quando vi lascerà partire, egli addirittura vi scaccerà di qui.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Yet one plague more will I bring on Pharaoh, and on Egypt; afterwards he will let you go. When he lets you go, he will surely thrust you out altogether.

2 P arla dunque al popolo e digli che ciascuno domandi al suo vicino, e ogni donna alla sua vicina, degli oggetti d’argento e degli oggetti d’oro».

Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man ask of his neighbor, and every woman of her neighbor, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold.”

3 I l Signore fece in modo che il popolo ottenesse il favore degli Egiziani; anche Mosè era personalmente in grande considerazione nel paese d’Egitto, presso i servitori del faraone e presso tutto il popolo.

Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants, and in the sight of the people.

4 M osè disse: «Così dice il Signore: “Verso mezzanotte io passerò in mezzo all’Egitto

Moses said, “This is what Yahweh says: ‘About midnight I will go out into the middle of Egypt,

5 e ogni primogenito nel paese d’Egitto morirà, dal primogenito del faraone che siede sul suo trono, al primogenito della serva che sta dietro la macina e ad ogni primogenito del bestiame.

and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the female servant who is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of livestock.

6 V i sarà in tutto il paese d’Egitto un grande lamento, quale non ci fu mai prima, né ci sarà mai più.

There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been, nor shall be any more.

7 M a in mezzo a tutti i figli d’Israele, tanto fra gli uomini quanto fra gli animali, neppure un cane abbaierà”, affinché conosciate la distinzione che il Signore fa tra l’Egitto e Israele.

But against any of the children of Israel a dog won’t even bark or move its tongue, against man or animal; that you may know that Yahweh makes a distinction between the Egyptians and Israel.

8 T utti questi tuoi servitori scenderanno da me e s’inchineranno davanti a me, dicendo: “Parti, tu e tutto il popolo che è al tuo seguito!” E, dopo questo, io partirò». E Mosè, pieno d’ira, uscì dalla presenza del faraone.

All these servants of yours will come down to me, and bow down themselves to me, saying, “Get out, with all the people who follow you”; and after that I will go out.’” He went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.

9 I l Signore disse a Mosè: «Il faraone non vi darà ascolto, affinché i miei prodigi si moltiplichino nel paese d’Egitto».

Yahweh said to Moses, “Pharaoh won’t listen to you, that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”

10 M osè e Aaronne fecero tutti questi prodigi davanti al faraone; ma il Signore indurì il cuore del faraone, ed egli non lasciò uscire i figli d’Israele dal suo paese.

Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, and Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go out of his land.
