1 T re giorni dopo ci fu un matrimonio in Cana di Galilea, e la madre di Gesù era là.

The third day, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there.

2 A nche Gesù fu invitato con i suoi discepoli al matrimonio.

Jesus also was invited, with his disciples, to the marriage.

3 V enuto a mancare il vino, la madre di Gesù gli disse: «Non hanno più vino».

When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no wine.”

4 G esù le disse: «Che c’è fra me e te, o donna? L’ora mia non è ancora venuta».

Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with you and me? My hour has not yet come.”

5 S ua madre disse ai servitori: «Fate tutto quel che vi dirà».

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he says to you, do it.”

6 C ’erano là sei recipienti di pietra, del tipo adoperato per la purificazione dei Giudei, i quali contenevano ciascuno due o tre misure.

Now there were six water pots of stone set there after the Jews’ way of purifying, containing two or three metretes apiece.

7 G esù disse loro: «Riempite d’acqua i recipienti». Ed essi li riempirono fino all’orlo.

Jesus said to them, “Fill the water pots with water.” They filled them up to the brim.

8 P oi disse loro: «Adesso attingete e portatene al maestro di tavola». Ed essi gliene portarono.

He said to them, “Now draw some out, and take it to the ruler of the feast.” So they took it.

9 Q uando il maestro di tavola ebbe assaggiato l’acqua che era diventata vino (egli non ne conosceva la provenienza, ma la sapevano bene i servitori che avevano attinto l’acqua), chiamò lo sposo e gli disse:

When the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and didn’t know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast called the bridegroom,

10 « Ognuno serve prima il vino buono, e quando si è bevuto abbondantemente, il meno buono; tu, invece, hai tenuto il vino buono fino ad ora».

and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when the guests have drunk freely, then that which is worse. You have kept the good wine until now!”

11 G esù fece questo primo dei suoi segni in Cana di Galilea, e manifestò la sua gloria, e i suoi discepoli credettero in lui.

This beginning of his signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

12 D opo questo, scese a Capernaum egli con sua madre, con i suoi fratelli e i suoi discepoli, e rimasero là alcuni giorni. Gesù nel tempio

After this, he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, his brothers, and his disciples; and they stayed there a few days.

13 L a Pasqua dei Giudei era vicina, e Gesù salì a Gerusalemme.

The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

14 T rovò nel tempio quelli che vendevano buoi, pecore, colombi, e i cambiavalute seduti.

He found in the temple those who sold oxen, sheep, and doves, and the changers of money sitting.

15 F atta una sferza di cordicelle, scacciò tutti fuori dal tempio, pecore e buoi; sparpagliò il denaro dei cambiavalute, rovesciò le tavole,

He made a whip of cords, and threw all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables.

16 e a quelli che vendevano i colombi disse: «Portate via di qui queste cose; smettete di fare della casa del Padre mio una casa di mercato».

To those who sold the doves, he said, “Take these things out of here! Don’t make my Father’s house a marketplace!”

17 E i suoi discepoli si ricordarono che sta scritto: «Lo zelo per la tua casa mi consuma ».

His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will eat me up.”

18 I Giudei allora presero a dirgli: «Quale segno ci mostri per fare queste cose?»

The Jews therefore answered him, “What sign do you show us, seeing that you do these things?”

19 G esù rispose loro: «Distruggete questo tempio, e in tre giorni lo farò risorgere!»

Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

20 A llora i Giudei dissero: «Quarantasei anni è durata la costruzione di questo tempio e tu lo faresti risorgere in tre giorni?»

The Jews therefore said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple! Will you raise it up in three days?”

21 M a egli parlava del tempio del suo corpo.

But he spoke of the temple of his body.

22 Q uando dunque fu risorto dai morti, i suoi discepoli si ricordarono che egli aveva detto questo, e credettero alla Scrittura e alla parola che Gesù aveva detta.

When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this, and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

23 M entre egli era in Gerusalemme, alla festa di Pasqua, molti credettero nel suo nome vedendo i segni che egli faceva.

Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name, observing his signs which he did.

24 M a Gesù non si fidava di loro, perché conosceva tutti,

But Jesus didn’t trust himself to them, because he knew everyone,

25 e perché non aveva bisogno della testimonianza di nessuno sull’uomo, poiché egli stesso conosceva quello che era nell’uomo.

and because he didn’t need for anyone to testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
