1 I capifamiglia dei Leviti si avvicinarono al sacerdote Eleazar, a Giosuè, figlio di Nun, e ai capifamiglia delle tribù dei figli d’Israele,

Then the heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites came near to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel.

2 p arlarono loro a Silo, nel paese di Canaan, e dissero: «Il Signore comandò, per mezzo di Mosè, che ci fossero date città da abitare, con le campagne circostanti per il nostro bestiame».

They spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, “Yahweh commanded Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for our livestock.”

3 A llora i figli d’Israele diedero ai Leviti, dalla loro eredità, le seguenti città con le campagne circostanti, secondo il comandamento del Signore.

The children of Israel gave to the Levites out of their inheritance, according to the commandment of Yahweh, these cities with their suburbs.

4 S i tirò a sorte per le famiglie dei Cheatiti; e i figli del sacerdote Aaronne, che erano Leviti, ebbero in sorte tredici città della tribù di Giuda, della tribù di Simeone e della tribù di Beniamino.

The lot came out for the families of the Kohathites. The children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had thirteen cities by lot out of the tribe of Judah, out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of Benjamin.

5 A l resto dei figli di Cheat toccarono in sorte dieci città delle famiglie della tribù di Efraim, della tribù di Dan e della mezza tribù di Manasse.

The rest of the children of Kohath had ten cities by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh.

6 A i figli di Gherson toccarono in sorte tredici città delle famiglie della tribù d’Issacar, della tribù di Ascer, della tribù di Neftali e della mezza tribù di Manasse in Basan.

The children of Gershon had thirteen cities by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, out of the tribe of Asher, out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan.

7 A i figli di Merari, secondo le loro famiglie, toccarono dodici città della tribù di Ruben, della tribù di Gad e della tribù di Zabulon.

The children of Merari according to their families had twelve cities out of the tribe of Reuben, out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun.

8 I figli d’Israele diedero dunque in sorte queste città, con le campagne circostanti, ai Leviti, come il Signore aveva comandato per mezzo di Mosè.

The children of Israel gave these cities with their suburbs by lot to the Levites, as Yahweh commanded by Moses.

9 D iedero cioè, della tribù dei figli di Giuda e della tribù dei figli di Simeone, le città qui menzionate per nome,

They gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are mentioned by name:

10 l e quali toccarono ai figli di Aaronne tra le famiglie dei Cheatiti, figli di Levi, perché il primo lotto fu per loro.

and they were for the children of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi; for theirs was the first lot.

11 F urono dunque date loro Chiriat-Arba, cioè Ebron (Arba era il padre di Anac) nella regione montuosa di Giuda, con la campagna circostante;

They gave them Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak (also called Hebron), in the hill country of Judah, with its suburbs around it.

12 m a diedero il territorio della città e i suoi villaggi come possesso a Caleb, figlio di Gefunne.

But they gave the fields of the city and its villages to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession.

All these were the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, even the rest of the families of the Levites. Their lot was twelve cities.

41 T otale delle città dei Leviti in mezzo alle proprietà dei figli d’Israele: quarantotto città e le loro campagne circostanti.

All the cities of the Levites among the possessions of the children of Israel were forty-eight cities with their suburbs.

42 C iascuna di queste città aveva la sua campagna tutt’intorno; così era di tutte queste città. Il compimento delle promesse divine

Each of these cities included their suburbs around them. It was this way with all these cities.

43 I l Signore diede dunque a Israele tutto il paese che aveva giurato ai padri di dar loro, e i figli d’Israele ne presero possesso, e vi si stanziarono.

So Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers. They possessed it, and lived in it.

44 E il Signore diede loro pace da ogni parte, come aveva giurato ai loro padri; nessuno di tutti i loro nemici potè resistere davanti a loro; il Signore diede loro nelle mani tutti quei nemici.

Yahweh gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. Not a man of all their enemies stood before them. Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand.

45 D i tutte le buone parole che il Signore aveva dette alla casa d’Israele non una cadde a terra: tutte si compirono.

Nothing failed of any good thing which Yahweh had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.
