They shall keep his requirements, and the requirements of the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle.

They shall keep all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, and the obligations of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

9 T u darai i Leviti ad Aaronne e ai suoi figli; tra i figli d’Israele sono essi quelli che si dedicheranno completamente al suo servizio.

You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are wholly given to him on the behalf of the children of Israel.

10 T u stabilirai Aaronne e i suoi figli, perché esercitino le funzioni del loro sacerdozio; l’estraneo che si accosterà all’altare sarà messo a morte».

You shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their priesthood. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.”

11 I l Signore disse a Mosè:

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

12 « Ecco, tra i figli d’Israele io ho preso i Leviti al posto di ogni primogenito che nasce da donna israelita; i Leviti saranno miei;

“Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn who open the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine:

13 p oiché ogni primogenito è mio; il giorno in cui colpii tutti i primogeniti nel paese d’Egitto, io mi consacrai tutti i primi parti in Israele, tanto degli uomini quanto degli animali; saranno miei: io sono il Signore ».

for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I made holy to me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and animal. They shall be mine. I am Yahweh.”

14 I l Signore parlò a Mosè nel deserto del Sinai e disse:

Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying,

15 « Fa’ il censimento dei figli di Levi secondo la discendenza paterna, secondo le loro famiglie; farai il censimento di tutti i maschi dall’età di un mese in su».

“Count the children of Levi by their fathers’ houses, by their families. You shall count every male from a month old and upward.”

16 E Mosè ne fece il censimento secondo l’ordine del Signore, come gli era stato comandato di fare.

Moses numbered them according to Yahweh’s word, as he was commanded.

17 Q uesti sono i nomi dei figli di Levi: Gherson, Cheat e Merari.

Those who encamp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

39 T utti i Leviti di cui Mosè e Aaronne fecero il censimento secondo le loro famiglie per ordine del Signore, tutti i maschi dall’età di un mese in su, furono ventiduemila. Riscatto dei primogeniti

All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of Yahweh, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand.

40 I l Signore disse a Mosè: «Fa’ il censimento di tutti i primogeniti maschi tra i figli d’Israele dall’età di un mese in su e fa’ il conto dei loro nomi.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Number all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names.

41 P renderai i Leviti per me, io sono il Signore, invece di tutti i primogeniti dei figli d’Israele, e il bestiame dei Leviti al posto dei primi parti del bestiame degli Israeliti».

You shall take the Levites for me (I am Yahweh) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel.”

42 M osè fece il censimento di tutti i primogeniti tra i figli d’Israele, secondo l’ordine che il Signore gli aveva dato.

Moses numbered, as Yahweh commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel.

All the firstborn males according to the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those who were numbered of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three.

44 I l Signore disse a Mosè:

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

45 « Prendi i Leviti al posto di tutti i primogeniti dei figli d’Israele e il bestiame dei Leviti al posto del loro bestiame; i Leviti saranno miei. Io sono il Signore.

“Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock; and the Levites shall be mine. I am Yahweh.

46 P er il riscatto dei duecentosettantatré primogeniti dei figli d’Israele che superano il numero dei Leviti,

For the redemption of the two hundred seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel, who exceed the number of the Levites,

47 p renderai cinque sicli a testa; li prenderai secondo il siclo del santuario, che è di venti ghere.

you shall take five shekels apiece for each one; after the shekel of the sanctuary you shall take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs ):

and you shall give the money, with which their remainder is redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons.”
