1 E cco, la mano del Signore non è troppo corta per salvare, né il suo orecchio troppo duro per udire;

Behold, Yahweh’s hand is not shortened, that it can’t save; nor his ear dull, that it can’t hear.

2 m a le vostre iniquità vi hanno separato dal vostro Dio; i vostri peccati gli hanno fatto nascondere la faccia da voi, per non darvi più ascolto.

But your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

3 L e vostre mani infatti sono contaminate dal sangue, le vostre dita dall’iniquità; le vostre labbra proferiscono menzogna, la vostra lingua sussurra perversità.

For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity. Your lips have spoken lies. Your tongue mutters wickedness.

4 N essuno muove causa con giustizia, nessuno la discute con verità; si appoggiano su ciò che non è, dicono menzogne, concepiscono il male, partoriscono l’iniquità.

No one sues in righteousness, and no one pleads in truth. They trust in vanity, and speak lies. They conceive mischief, and give birth to iniquity.

5 C ovano uova di serpente, tessono tele di ragno; chi mangia le loro uova muore, e dall’uovo che uno schiaccia esce fuori una vipera.

They hatch adders’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web. He who eats of their eggs dies; and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.

6 L e loro tele non diventeranno vestiti, né costoro si copriranno delle loro opere; le loro opere sono opere d’iniquità, nelle loro mani vi sono atti di violenza.

Their webs won’t become garments. They won’t cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of iniquity, and acts of violence are in their hands.

7 I loro piedi corrono al male, essi si affrettano a spargere sangue innocente; i loro pensieri sono pensieri iniqui, la desolazione e la rovina sono sulla loro strada.

Their feet run to evil, and they hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity. desolation and destruction are in their paths.

8 L a via della pace non la conoscono, non c’è equità nel loro procedere; si fanno dei sentieri tortuosi, chiunque vi cammina non conosce la pace.

They don’t know the way of peace; and there is no justice in their ways. They have made crooked paths for themselves; whoever goes in them doesn’t know peace.

9 P erciò la rettitudine è lontana da noi e non arriva fino a noi la giustizia; noi aspettiamo la luce, ma ecco le tenebre; aspettiamo il chiarore del giorno, ma camminiamo nel buio.

Therefore is justice far from us, and righteousness doesn’t overtake us. We look for light, but see darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity.

10 A ndiamo tastando la parete come i ciechi, andiamo a tastoni come chi non ha occhi; inciampiamo in pieno mezzogiorno come nel crepuscolo, in mezzo all’abbondanza sembriamo dei morti.

We grope for the wall like the blind. Yes, we grope as those who have no eyes. We stumble at noon as if it were twilight. Among those who are strong, we are like dead men.

11 T utti quanti grugniamo come orsi, andiamo gemendo come colombe; aspettiamo la rettitudine, ma essa non viene; la salvezza, ma essa si allontana da noi.

We all roar like bears, and moan bitterly like doves. We look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.

12 P oiché le nostre trasgressioni si sono moltiplicate davanti a te e i nostri peccati testimoniano contro di noi; sì, i nostri peccati ci stanno davanti e le nostre iniquità le conosciamo.

For our transgressions are multiplied before you, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them:

13 S iamo stati ribelli al Signore e l’abbiamo rinnegato, ci siamo rifiutati di seguire il nostro Dio, abbiamo parlato di oppressione e di rivolta, abbiamo concepito e meditato in cuore parole di menzogna.

transgressing and denying Yahweh, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

14 L a rettitudine si è ritirata e la giustizia si è tenuta lontana; la verità, infatti, soccombe sulla piazza pubblica e il diritto non riesce ad avvicinarvisi.

Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has fallen in the street, and uprightness can’t enter.

15 L a verità è scomparsa, e chi si allontana dal male si espone a essere spogliato. Giudizio contro Giuda; promessa di un redentore Il Signore ha visto, e gli è dispiaciuto che non vi sia più rettitudine;

Yes, truth is lacking; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Yahweh saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.

16 h a visto che non c’era più un uomo e si è stupito che nessuno intervenisse. Allora il suo braccio gli è venuto in aiuto, la sua giustizia lo ha sorretto;

He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor. Therefore his own arm brought salvation to him; and his righteousness sustained him.

17 e gli si è rivestito di giustizia come di una corazza, si è messo in capo l’elmo della salvezza, ha indossato gli abiti della vendetta, si è avvolto di gelosia come in un mantello.

He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head. He put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a mantle.

18 E gli renderà a ciascuno secondo le sue opere; il furore ai suoi avversari, il contraccambio ai suoi nemici; alle isole darà la loro retribuzione.

According to their deeds, he will repay as appropriate, wrath to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; he will repay the islands their due.

19 C osì si temerà il nome del Signore dall’occidente e la sua gloria dall’oriente; quando l’avversario verrà come una fiumana, lo Spirito del Signore lo metterà in fuga.

So shall they fear Yahweh’s name from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come as a rushing stream, which Yahweh’s breath drives.

20 « Un salvatore verrà per Sion e per quelli di Giacobbe che si convertiranno dalla loro rivolta», dice il Signore.

“A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from disobedience in Jacob,” says Yahweh.

21 « Quanto a me», dice il Signore, «questo è il patto che io stabilirò con loro: il mio Spirito che riposa su di te e le mie parole che ho messe nella tua bocca non si allontaneranno mai dalla tua bocca, né dalla bocca della tua discendenza, né dalla bocca della discendenza della tua discendenza», dice il Signore, «da ora e per sempre».

“As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says Yahweh. “My Spirit who is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your offspring, nor out of the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says Yahweh, “from henceforth and forever.”
