1 T u sei giusto, Signore, quando io discuto con te; tuttavia io proporrò le mie ragioni: perché prospera la via degli empi? perché sono tutti a loro agio quelli che agiscono perfidamente?

You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would reason the cause with you: why does the way of the wicked prosper? why are all they at ease who deal very treacherously?

2 T u li hai piantati ed essi hanno messo radice, crescono e, inoltre, portano frutto; tu sei vicino alla loro bocca, ma lontano dal loro intimo.

You have planted them, yes, they have taken root; they grow, yes, they produce fruit: you are near in their mouth, and far from their heart.

3 S ignore, tu mi conosci, tu mi vedi, tu provi quale sia il mio cuore verso di te. Trascinali al macello come pecore, preparali per il giorno del massacro!

But you, Yahweh, know me; you see me, and try my heart toward you: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

4 F ino a quando sarà afflitto il paese e si seccherà l’erba di tutta la campagna? Per la malvagità degli abitanti, le bestie e gli uccelli sono sterminati. Poiché quelli dicono: «Egli non vedrà la nostra fine».

How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of those who dwell therein, the animals are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end.

5 « Se correndo con dei pedoni, questi ti stancano, come potrai gareggiare con i cavalli? Se non ti senti al sicuro che in terra di pace, come farai quando il Giordano sarà in piena?

If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? and though in a land of peace you are secure, yet how will you do in the pride of the Jordan?

6 P erché persino i tuoi fratelli e la casa di tuo padre ti tradiscono; anch’essi ti gridano dietro a piena voce; non li credere quando ti diranno delle buone parole. Il paese di Giuda devastato; profezia contro i devastatori

For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; even they have cried aloud after you: don’t believe them, though they speak beautiful words to you.

7 « Io ho lasciato la mia casa, ho abbandonato la mia eredità; ho dato l’amata mia nelle mani dei suoi nemici.

I have forsaken my house, I have cast off my heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.

8 L a mia eredità è divenuta per me come un leone nella foresta; ha mandato contro di me il suo ruggito; perciò io l’ho detestata.

My heritage has become to me as a lion in the forest: she has uttered her voice against me; therefore I have hated her.

9 L a mia eredità è stata per me come l’uccello rapace screziato; gli uccelli rapaci si gettano contro di lei da ogni parte. Andate, radunate tutte le bestie della campagna, fatele venire a divorare!

Is my heritage to me as a speckled bird of prey? are the birds of prey against her all around? Go, assemble all the animals of the field, bring them to devour.

10 M olti pastori guastano la mia vigna, calpestano la parte che mi è toccata, riducono la mia deliziosa proprietà in un deserto desolato.

Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

11 L a riducono in una desolazione e, tutta desolata, è afflitta davanti a me; tutto il paese è desolato, perché nessuno lo prende a cuore.

They have made it a desolation; it mourns to me, being desolate; the whole land is made desolate, because no man lays it to heart.

12 S u tutte le alture del deserto giungono devastatori, perché la spada del Signore divora il paese da un’estremità all’altra; non c’è pace per nessuno.

Destroyers have come on all the bare heights in the wilderness; for the sword of Yahweh devours from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh has peace.

13 H anno seminato grano e raccolgono spine; si sono affannati senza alcun profitto. Vergognatevi di ciò che raccogliete a causa dell’ira ardente del Signore!»

They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and you shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of Yahweh.

14 C osì parla il Signore contro tutti i miei malvagi vicini, che toccano l’eredità che io ho data da possedere al mio popolo Israele: «Ecco, io li sradicherò dal loro paese, sradicherò la casa di Giuda di mezzo a loro;

Yahweh says against all my evil neighbors, who touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.

15 m a, dopo che li avrò sradicati, avrò di nuovo compassione di loro e li ricondurrò ciascuno nella sua eredità, ciascuno nel suo paese.

It shall happen, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

16 S e imparano diligentemente le vie del mio popolo e giurano per il mio nome, dicendo: “Il Signore vive”, come hanno insegnato al mio popolo a giurare per Baal, saranno saldamente stabiliti in mezzo al mio popolo.

It shall happen, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As Yahweh lives; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the middle of my people.

17 M a, se non danno ascolto, io sradicherò quella nazione; la sradicherò e la distruggerò», dice il Signore.

But if they will not hear, then I will pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, says Yahweh.
