1 L ’anno dodicesimo, il dodicesimo mese, il primo giorno del mese, la parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

2 « Figlio d’uomo, pronuncia un lamento sul faraone, re d’Egitto, e digli: “Tu eri simile a un leoncello fra le nazioni, eri come un coccodrillo nei mari; ti slanciavi nei tuoi fiumi, con i tuoi piedi agitavi le acque e ne intorbidivi i canali”.

Son of man, take up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and tell him, You were likened to a young lion of the nations: yet you are as a monster in the seas; and you broke out with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.

3 C osì parla il Signore, Dio: “Io stenderò su di te la mia rete mediante gran moltitudine di popoli, i quali ti tireranno fuori con la mia rete.

Thus says the Lord Yahweh: I will spread out my net on you with a company of many peoples; and they shall bring you up in my net.

4 T i abbandonerò sulla terra e ti getterò in mezzo ai campi; farò che su di te vengano a posarsi tutti gli uccelli del cielo e sazierò di te le bestie di tutta la terra.

I will leave you on the land, I will cast you out on the open field, and will cause all the birds of the sky to settle on you, and I will satisfy the animals of the whole earth with you.

5 M etterò la tua carne su per i monti e riempirò le valli dei tuoi avanzi;

I will lay your flesh on the mountains, and fill the valleys with your height.

6 a nnaffierò del tuo sangue, fin sui monti, il paese dove nuoti, e i canali saranno ricolmi di te.

I will also water with your blood the land in which you swim, even to the mountains; and the watercourses shall be full of you.

7 Q uando ti estinguerò, velerò i cieli e ne oscurerò le stelle; coprirò il sole di nuvole, la luna non darà la sua luce.

When I shall extinguish you, I will cover the heavens, and make its stars dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give its light.

8 A causa di te, oscurerò tutti gli astri che splendono in cielo e stenderò le tenebre sul tuo paese”, dice il Signore, Dio.

All the bright lights of the sky will I make dark over you, and set darkness on your land, says the Lord Yahweh.

9 “ Affliggerò il cuore di molti popoli, quando farò giungere la notizia della tua rovina fra le nazioni in paesi che tu non conosci.

I will also trouble the hearts of many peoples, when I shall bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries which you have not known.

10 F arò in modo che di te resteranno attoniti molti popoli e i loro re saranno presi da spavento per causa tua, quando io brandirò la mia spada davanti a loro; ognuno di essi tremerà a ogni istante per la sua vita, nel giorno della tua caduta”.

Yes, I will make many peoples amazed at you, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for you, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at every moment, every man for his own life, in the day of your fall.

11 I nfatti così parla il Signore, Dio: “La spada del re di Babilonia ti piomberà addosso.

For thus says the Lord Yahweh: The sword of the king of Babylon shall come on you.

12 I o farò cadere la moltitudine del tuo popolo per la spada di uomini potenti, tutti quanti i più violenti fra le nazioni, ed essi distruggeranno il fasto dell’Egitto e tutta la sua moltitudine sarà annientata.

By the swords of the mighty will I cause your multitude to fall; the terrible of the nations are they all: and they shall bring to nothing the pride of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed.

13 F arò perire tutto il suo bestiame sulle rive delle grandi acque; nessun piede d’uomo le intorbiderà più, non le intorbiderà più unghia di bestia.

I will destroy also all its animals from beside many waters; neither shall the foot of man trouble them any more, nor the hoofs of animals trouble them.

14 A llora lascerò posare le loro acque e farò scorrere i loro fiumi come olio”, dice il Signore, Dio.

Then will I make their waters clear, and cause their rivers to run like oil, says the Lord Yahweh.

15 “ Quando avrò ridotto il paese d’Egitto in una desolazione, in un paese spogliato di ciò che conteneva, quando ne avrò colpito tutti gli abitanti, si conoscerà che io sono il Signore.

When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate and waste, a land destitute of that of which it was full, when I shall strike all those who dwell therein, then shall they know that I am Yahweh.

16 E cco il lamento che sarà pronunciato; lo pronunceranno le figlie delle nazioni, pronunceranno questo lamento sull’Egitto e su tutta la sua moltitudine”, dice il Signore, Dio ».

This is the lamentation with which they shall lament; the daughters of the nations shall lament therewith; over Egypt, and over all her multitude, shall they lament therewith, says the Lord Yahweh.

17 I l dodicesimo anno, il quindicesimo giorno del mese, la parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:

Also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

18 « Figlio d’uomo, intona un lamento sulla moltitudine dell’Egitto e falle scendere, lei e le figlie delle nazioni illustri, nelle profondità della terra, con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, even her, and the daughters of the famous nations, to the lower parts of the earth, with those who go down into the pit.

19 “ Chi mai tu superi in bellezza? Scendi, e giaci con gli incirconcisi!

Whom do you pass in beauty? Go down, and be laid with the uncircumcised.

20 E ssi cadranno in mezzo agli uccisi per la spada. La spada vi è data; trascinate l’Egitto con tutte le sue moltitudini!

They shall fall among those who are slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword; draw her away and all her multitudes.

21 I più forti fra i prodi e quelli che gli davano soccorso gli rivolgeranno la parola, in mezzo al soggiorno dei morti. Sono scesi, gli incirconcisi; giacciono uccisi dalla spada.

The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the middle of Sheol with those who help him: they are gone down, they lie still, even the uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

22 L à è l’Assiro con tutta la sua moltitudine, attorno a lui stanno i suoi sepolcri; tutti sono uccisi, caduti per la spada.

Asshur is there and all her company; her graves are all around her; all of them slain, fallen by the sword;

23 I suoi sepolcri sono posti nelle profondità della fossa e la sua moltitudine sta attorno al suo sepolcro; tutti sono uccisi, caduti per la spada, essi, che spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi.

whose graves are set in the uttermost parts of the pit, and her company is around her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror in the land of the living.

24 L à è Elam con tutta la sua moltitudine, attorno al suo sepolcro; tutti sono uccisi, caduti per la spada, incirconcisi scesi nelle profondità della terra: essi, che spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi, hanno portato la loro vergogna con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the lower parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living, and have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit.

25 H anno fatto un letto per lui e per la sua moltitudine in mezzo a quelli che sono stati uccisi; attorno a lui stanno i suoi sepolcri. Tutti costoro sono incirconcisi, sono morti per la spada, perché spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi; hanno portato la loro vergogna con quelli che scendono nella fossa e sono stati messi fra gli uccisi.

They have set her a bed among the slain with all her multitude; her graves are around her; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for their terror was caused in the land of the living, and they have borne their shame with those who go down to the pit: he is put among those who are slain.

26 L à è Mesec, Tubal e tutta la loro moltitudine; attorno a loro stanno i loro sepolcri. Tutti costoro sono incirconcisi, uccisi dalla spada, perché spargevano il terrore sulla terra dei viventi.

There is Meshech, Tubal, and all their multitude; their graves are around them; all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for they caused their terror in the land of the living.

27 N on giacciono con i prodi che sono caduti fra gli incirconcisi, che sono scesi nel soggiorno dei morti con le loro armi da guerra, sotto il capo dei quali sono state poste le loro spade; ma le loro iniquità stanno sulle loro ossa, perché erano il terrore dei prodi sulla terra dei viventi.

They shall not lie with the mighty who are fallen of the uncircumcised, who have gone down to Sheol with their weapons of war, and have laid their swords under their heads, and their iniquities are on their bones; for they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

28 T u pure sarai abbattuto in mezzo agli incirconcisi e giacerai con gli uccisi dalla spada.

But you shall be broken among the uncircumcised, and shall lie with those who are slain by the sword.

29 L à è Edom con i suoi re e con tutti i suoi prìncipi, i quali, nonostante tutto il loro valore, sono stati messi con gli uccisi di spada. Anch’essi giacciono con gli incirconcisi e con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

There is Edom, her kings and all her princes, who in their might are laid with those who are slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit.

30 L à sono tutti i prìncipi del settentrione e tutti i Sidoni, che sono discesi con gli uccisi, coperti di umiliazione, nonostante il terrore che incuteva il loro valore. Giacciono incirconcisi con gli uccisi di spada, e portano la loro vergogna con quelli che scendono nella fossa.

There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who are gone down with the slain; in the terror which they caused by their might they are put to shame; and they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

31 I l faraone li vedrà e si consolerà di aver perduto tutta la sua moltitudine; il faraone e tutto il suo esercito saranno uccisi per la spada”, dice il Signore, Dio,

Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, says the Lord Yahweh.

32 “ poiché io spargerò il mio terrore sulla terra dei viventi; il faraone con tutta la sua moltitudine sarà posto a giacere in mezzo agli incirconcisi, con quelli che sono stati uccisi dalla spada”, dice il Signore, Dio ».

For I have put his terror in the land of the living; and he shall be laid among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, says the Lord Yahweh.
