1 M ejor es el pobre que camina en integridad, Que el de perversos labios y fatuo.

Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

2 E l afán sin reflexión no es bueno, Y aquel que se apresura con los pies, se extravía.

It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge; nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way.

3 L a insensatez del hombre tuerce su camino, Y luego se irrita su corazón contra Jehová.

The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh.

4 L as riquezas atraen a muchos amigos; Mas el pobre se ve apartado de su amigo.

Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.

5 E l testigo falso no quedará sin castigo, Y el que habla mentiras no escapará.

A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.

6 M uchos buscan el favor del generoso, Y cada uno es amigo del hombre que da.

Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.

7 T odos los hermanos del pobre le aborrecen; ¡Cuánto más sus amigos se alejarán de él! Buscará palabras y no las hallará.

All the relatives of the poor shun him: how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.

8 E l que posee entendimiento ama su alma; El que guarda la inteligencia hallará el bien.

He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.

9 E l testigo falso no quedará sin castigo, Y el que habla mentiras perecerá.

A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.

10 N o sienta bien al necio vivir en delicias; ¡Cuánto menos al siervo ser señor de los príncipes!

Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.

11 L a cordura del hombre detiene su furor, Y es un honor para él pasar por alto la ofensa.

The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

12 C omo rugido de león es la ira del rey, Y su favor como el rocío sobre la hierba.

The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.

13 D olor es para su padre el hijo necio, Y gotera continua las contiendas de la mujer.

A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.

14 L a casa y las riquezas son herencia de los padres; Mas la mujer prudente es don de Jehová.

House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.

15 L a pereza hace caer en profundo sueño, Y el alma negligente padecerá hambre.

Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.

16 E l que guarda el mandamiento guarda su alma; Mas el que menosprecia sus caminos morirá.

He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.

17 A Jehová presta el que da al pobre, Y el bien que ha hecho, se lo recompensará.

He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.

18 C astiga a tu hijo en tanto que hay esperanza; Mas no se apresure tu alma para destruirlo.

Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.

19 E l iracundo pagará la pena; Y si se lo perdonan, añadirá nuevos males.

A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.

20 E scucha el consejo, y recibe la corrección, Para que seas sabio al final.

Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

21 M uchos proyectos hay en el corazón del hombre; Mas el designio de Jehová es el que se cumplirá.

There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail.

22 C ontentamiento es a los hombres hacer misericordia; Y mejor es el pobre que el mentiroso.

That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.

23 E l temor de Jehová es para vida, Y con él vivirá lleno de reposo el hombre; No será visitado por el mal.

The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.

24 E l perezoso mete su mano en el plato, Y ni aun a su boca la lleva.

The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

25 H iere al escarnecedor, y el simple se hará avisado; Y corrigiendo al entendido, aprenderá la ciencia.

Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.

26 E l que despoja a su padre y ahuyenta a su madre, Es hijo que causa vergüenza y acarrea oprobio.

He who robs his father and drives away his mother, is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

27 C esa, hijo mío, de escuchar las enseñanzas Que te apartan de las razones de sabiduría.

If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.

28 E l testigo perverso se burla de la justicia, Y la boca de los impíos encubre la iniquidad.

A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.

29 P reparados están los castigos para los escarnecedores, Y los azotes para las espaldas de los necios.

Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
