1 D espués de esto aconteció que David consultó a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Subiré a alguna de las ciudades de Judá? Y Jehová le respondió: Sube. David volvió a decir: ¿Adónde subiré? Y él le dijo: A Hebrón.

After this, David inquired of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah?” Yahweh said to him, “Go up.” David said, “Where shall I go up?” He said, “To Hebron.”

2 D avid subió allá, y con él sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam jizreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal el de Carmel.

So David went up there with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

3 L levó también David consigo a los hombres que con él habían estado, cada uno con su familia; los cuales moraron en las ciudades de Hebrón.

David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.

4 Y vinieron los varones de Judá y ungieron allí a David por rey sobre la casa de Judá. Y dieron aviso a David, diciendo: Los de Jabés de Galaad son los que sepultaron a Saúl.

The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were those who buried Saul.”

5 E ntonces envió David mensajeros a los de Jabés de Galaad, diciéndoles: Benditos seáis vosotros de Jehová, que habéis hecho esta misericordia con vuestro señor, con Saúl, dándole sepultura.

David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “Blessed are you by Yahweh, that you have shown this kindness to your lord, even to Saul, and have buried him.

6 A hora, pues, Jehová haga con vosotros misericordia y verdad; y yo también os haré bien por esto que habéis hecho.

Now may Yahweh show loving kindness and truth to you. I also will reward you for this kindness, because you have done this thing.

7 E sfuércense, pues, ahora vuestras manos, y sed valientes; pues muerto Saúl vuestro señor, los de la casa de Judá me han ungido por rey sobre ellos. Guerra entre David y la casa de Saúl

Now therefore let your hands be strong, and be valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.”

8 P ero Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Saúl, tomó a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, y lo llevó a Mahanáyim,

Now Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s army, had taken Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

9 y lo hizo rey sobre Galaad, sobre Asurí, sobre Jizreel, sobre Efraín, sobre Benjamín y sobre todo Israel.

and he made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

10 D e cuarenta años era Is-boset hijo de Saúl cuando comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó dos años. Solamente los de la casa de Judá siguieron a David.

Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

11 Y fue el número de los días que David reinó en Hebrón sobre la casa de Judá, siete años y seis meses. Guerra entre Judá e Israel. Batalla de Gabaón

The time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12 A bner hijo de Ner salió de Mahanáyim a Gabaón con los siervos de Is-boset hijo de Saúl,

Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13 y Joab hijo de Sarvia y los siervos de David salieron y los encontraron junto al estanque de Gabaón; y se pararon los unos a un lado del estanque, y los otros al otro lado.

Joab the son of Zeruiah and David’s servants went out, and met them by the pool of Gibeon; and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.

14 Y dijo Abner a Joab: Levántense ahora los jóvenes, y maniobren delante de nosotros. Y Joab respondió: Levántense.

Abner said to Joab, “Please let the young men arise and play before us!” Joab said, “Let them arise!”

15 E ntonces se levantaron, y pasaron en número igual, doce de Benjamín por parte de Is-boset hijo de Saúl, y doce de los siervos de David.

Then they arose and went over by number: twelve for Benjamin and for Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of David’s servants.

16 Y cada uno echó mano de la cabeza de su adversario, y metió su espada en el costado de su adversario, y cayeron a una; por lo que fue llamado aquel lugar, Helcat-hazurim, el cual está en Gabaón.

They each caught his opponent by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: therefore that place in Gibeon was called Helkath Hazzurim.

17 L a batalla fue muy reñida aquel día, y Abner y los hombres de Israel fueron vencidos por los siervos de David.

The battle was very severe that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before David’s servants.

18 E staban allí los tres hijos de Sarvia: Joab, Abisay y Asael. Este Asael era ligero de pies como una gacela del campo.

The three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild gazelle.

19 Y siguió Asael tras de Abner, sin apartarse ni a derecha ni a izquierda.

Asahel pursued Abner; and in going he didn’t turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner.

20 Y miró atrás Abner, y dijo: ¿No eres tú Asael? Y él respondió: Sí.

Then Abner looked behind him, and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” He answered, “It is.”

21 E ntonces Abner le dijo: Apártate a la derecha o a la izquierda, y echa mano de alguno de los hombres, y toma para ti sus despojos. Pero Asael no quiso apartarse de en pos de él.

Abner said to him, “Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and grab one of the young men, and take his armor.” But Asahel would not turn aside from following him.

22 Y Abner volvió a decir a Asael: Apártate de en pos de mí; ¿por qué he de herirte hasta derribarte? ¿Cómo levantaría yo entonces mi rostro delante de Joab tu hermano?

Abner said again to Asahel, “Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I look Joab your brother in the face?”

23 Y no queriendo él irse, lo hirió Abner con el regatón de la lanza por la quinta costilla, y le salió la lanza por la espalda, y cayó allí, y murió en aquel mismo sitio. Y todos los que venían por aquel lugar donde Asael había caído y estaba muerto, se detenían.

However he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner with the back end of the spear struck him in the body, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place. As many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

24 M as Joab y Abisay siguieron a Abner; y se puso el sol cuando llegaron al collado de Ammá, que está delante de Gía, junto al camino del desierto de Gabaón.

But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. The sun went down when they had come to the hill of Ammah, that lies before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

25 Y se juntaron los hijos de Benjamín en pos de Abner, formando un solo ejército; e hicieron alto en la cumbre del collado.

The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one band, and stood on the top of a hill.

26 Y Abner dio voces a Joab, diciendo: ¿Consumirá la espada perpetuamente? ¿No sabes tú que el final será amargura? ¿Hasta cuándo no dirás al pueblo que se vuelva de perseguir a sus hermanos?

Then Abner called to Joab, and said, “Shall the sword devour forever? Don’t you know that it will be bitterness in the latter end? How long will it be then, before you ask the people to return from following their brothers?”

27 Y Joab respondió: Vive Dios, que si no hubieses hablado, el pueblo hubiera dejado de seguir a sus hermanos desde esta mañana.

Joab said, “As God lives, if you had not spoken, surely then in the morning the people would have gone away, and not each followed his brother.”

28 E ntonces Joab tocó el cuerno, y todo el pueblo se detuvo, y no persiguió más a los de Israel, ni peleó más.

So Joab blew the trumpet; and all the people stood still, and pursued Israel no more, and they fought no more.

29 Y Abner y los suyos caminaron por el Arabá toda aquella noche, y pasando el Jordán cruzaron por todo Bitrón y llegaron a Mahanáyim.

Abner and his men went all that night through the Arabah; and they passed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and came to Mahanaim.

30 J oab también volvió de perseguir a Abner, y juntando a todo el pueblo, faltaron de los siervos de David diecinueve hombres y Asael.

Joab returned from following Abner; and when he had gathered all the people together, nineteen men of David’s and Asahel were missing.

31 M as los siervos de David hirieron de los de Benjamín y de los de Abner, a trescientos sesenta hombres, los cuales murieron.

But David’s servants had struck Benjamin and of Abner’s men so that three hundred sixty men died.

32 T omaron luego a Asael, y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro de su padre en Belén. Y caminaron toda aquella noche Joab y sus hombres, y les amaneció en Hebrón.

They took up Asahel, and buried him in the tomb of his father, which was in Bethlehem. Joab and his men went all night, and the day broke on them at Hebron.
