1 H ijitos míos, os escribo estas cosas para que no pequéis; y si alguno peca, abogado tenemos para con el Padre, a Jesucristo el justo.

My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.

2 Y él es la propiciación por nuestros pecados; y no solamente por los nuestros, sino también por los de todo el mundo.

And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

3 Y en esto sabemos que hemos llegado a conocerle: si guardamos sus mandamientos.

This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.

4 E l que dice: Yo he llegado a conocerle, y no guarda sus mandamientos, es un mentiroso, y la verdad no está en él;

One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.

5 p ero el que guarda su palabra, en éste verdaderamente el amor de Dios se ha perfeccionado; en esto conocemos que estamos en él.

But whoever keeps his word, God’s love has most certainly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him:

6 E l que dice que permanece en él, debe andar como él anduvo. El nuevo mandamiento

he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.

7 H ermanos, no os escribo un mandamiento nuevo, sino el mandamiento antiguo que teníais desde el principio; este mandamiento antiguo es la palabra que habéis oído desde el principio.

Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

8 S in embargo, os escribo un mandamiento nuevo, que es verdadero en él y en vosotros, porque las tinieblas van pasando, y la luz verdadera ya alumbra.

Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.

9 E l que dice que está en la luz, y aborrece a su hermano, está todavía en tinieblas.

He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now.

10 E l que ama a su hermano, permanece en la luz, y en él no hay tropiezo.

He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.

11 P ero el que aborrece a su hermano está en tinieblas, y anda en tinieblas, y no sabe adónde va, porque las tinieblas le han cegado los ojos.

But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

12 O s escribo a vosotros, hijitos, porque vuestros pecados os han sido perdonados por causa de su nombre.

I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

13 O s escribo a vosotros, padres, porque habéis llegado a conocer al que es desde el principio. Os escribo a vosotros, jóvenes, porque habéis vencido al maligno. Os escribo a vosotros, hijitos, porque habéis conocido al Padre.

I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.

14 O s he escrito a vosotros, padres, porque habéis conocido al que es desde el principio. Os he escrito a vosotros, jóvenes, porque sois fuertes, y la palabra de Dios permanece en vosotros, y habéis vencido al maligno.

I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

15 N o améis al mundo, ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Si alguno ama al mundo el amor del Padre no está en el.

Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

16 P orque todo lo que hay en el mundo, los deseos de la carne, la codicia de los ojos, y la soberbia de la vida, no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.

17 Y el mundo pasa, y sus deseos; pero el que hace la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre. Advertencia contra los anticristos

The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.

18 H ijitos, ya es el último tiempo; y tal como oísteis que el anticristo viene, aun ahora han surgido muchos anticristos; por esto conocemos que es el último tiempo.

Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.

19 S alieron de nosotros, pero no eran de nosotros; porque si hubiesen sido de nosotros, habrían permanecido con nosotros; pero salieron para que se manifestase que no todos son de nosotros.

They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.

20 M as vosotros tenéis unción del Santo, y sabéis todas las cosas.

You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.

21 N o os he escrito como si ignoraseis la verdad, sino porque la sabéis, y porque ninguna mentira procede de la verdad.

I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

22 ¿ Quién es el mentiroso, sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo? Éste es el anticristo, el que niega al Padre y al Hijo.

Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

23 T odo aquel que niega al Hijo, tampoco tiene al Padre. El que confiesa al Hijo, tiene también al Padre.

Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

24 E n cuanto a vosotros, lo que habéis oído desde el principio, permanezca en vosotros. Si lo que habéis oído desde el principio permanece en vosotros, también vosotros permaneceréis en el Hijo y en el Padre.

Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.

25 Y esta es la promesa que él nos hizo, la vida eterna.

This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.

26 O s he escrito esto sobre los que os engañan.

These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.

27 Y en cuanto a vosotros, la unción que recibisteis de él permanece en vosotros, y no tenéis necesidad de que nadie os enseñe; sino que así como la unción misma os enseña todas las cosas, y es verdadera, y no es mentira, así también, según ella os ha enseñado, permaneced en él.

As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.

28 Y ahora, hijitos, permaneced en él, para que cuando se manifieste, tengamos confianza, y en su venida no seamos avergonzados de parte de él.

Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

29 S i sabéis que él es justo, reconoced también que todo el que hace justicia es nacido de él.

If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
